We are pleased to offer this solid oak pediment featuring an ornately carved scroll design and measuring at 33.25 inches long and 5 inches high.It has a wire on the back. Ready for hanging. Historically, the pediment is found in classical Greek temples, renaissance, and neo-classical architecture. A prominent example is the Parthenon, where it served as a palette for intricate sculptural detail. This architectural element was developed in the architecture of ancient Greece. ANTIQUE SOLID OAK CARVED GALLERY PEDIMENT w/FINIALS & SPINDLES
Up for bid is a stunning antique mid to late 19th century. Solid oak furniture pediment or top gallery that probably once graced a nice cupboard or cabinet. Standing nearly 10" high x 43-1/2" in length, this pediment has returns of 13" in length or depth. There are 4 finials that grace the top rail of the gallery rail above some very nicely turned, urn shaped spindles. Each blocked plynth holds a finial rising above the railing and is faced with a double hip-like rectangular medallion situated on at least 3 sides of the plynth. The center is nicely carved with a rectangular hip-like medallion, flanked by carved acanthus leaves. The two center finials are missing the top ball portion of the finial, as seen in the pics, unlike the two outer finials, which are complete. The missing ball tops, must have broke off quite a few years ... moreago, because the top grain of wood, shows quite a bit of patina. There also appears to be remnants of old white paint, in some of the oak grain, though it also looks like it could be removed if the winning bidder deems it necessary. There is even some quartersawn oak used at the block plynths and finials. At present, there does not seem to be any other finish covering the wood. If you're looking for a superb solid oak gallery or furniture pediment, you'll not want to miss out bidding on this gem, and allowing it to get away. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING SOLID & VENEER QUARTERSAWN OAK CARVED PIANO BOARD PEDIMENT
Up for bid is. As the title states, an"Absolutely Stunning" antique carved quartersawn oak pediment. Standing just about 17-1/2" high x just under 54" wide and maybe 3/4 to 7/8" thick, this pediment is divided into three panels. Each panel is heavily carved with oak leaves and acorns. There are a few minor places, pointed out on the left panel where some of the carving has chipped off, but these places are minor and do not take away from the beauty of this pediment as a whole. Believed to be from a piano or pump organ, possibly dating back to the late 19th century, this panel has survived a lot of years. There is also some minor veneer pulled away from the foundation of wood, probably oak, underneath, as pointed out in the 3rd pic, but I believe this could be easily fixed with a little hide glue, with a wax paper ... morecover and some heavy weight like a few books laid on top to push it back down, while the glue drys. There is also one piece of veneer, seen in the last pic which has come off and will be included so that if you, as the winning bidder, deem it necessary, can re-glue it as well. The pediment does have it's original finish though aged quite a bit, It could easily be cleaned to bring out more of it's stunning quartersawn grain patterns. Shipping and insurance will be close to $45.00, due to size alone, except to Hawaii, Alaska and all international destinations, where I will ship to, however, costs tend to be a bit higher. Lovely Old Vintage Carved Solid Tiger Oak Wood Standing Pediment Piece or? I didn’t have a lot of time to shop this week because of visiting relatives. But I found some awesome pieces regardless, and I’ll be going to my favorite flea market this weekend, so I’ll have a boatload of items, fingers crossed, that will be new. I appreciate your business! This one has more questions than answers for me! Of course. What caught my attention about it right away, was the beautiful tiger graining of the oak- my favorite wood. Also, I'm calling it vintage, but I do think that it could be old enough to be antique, finally, what da-heck is it? I'm calling it a pediment, but did it used to be a part of a furniture, or architectural piece? I don't know, it will be for you to decide! Now, I want to point out that the oak base that it is attached ... moreto on the front I do not think is original. I think that was added later so that the piece can stand on its own- and it does, while on a flat surface- I had to take if off of my rug to show you(hence, the photo on my sidewalk) as the rug was too bumpy for it to stand independently. The wood is solid, not veneer, and you can see the quartersawn graining at the back too. The piece has simple hand carved details that have been painted(on the insides and borders) in a dark red. I see peeks of the red on the sides of the piece too, but it's quite worn in many spots on the side, so it's only in peeks- you see more of the wood underneath, there. I did notice that the insides of the two cutouts in the piece either were once all red, as I think the sides were, or they were left unfinished and you can see some of the border red on the cutouts- it's hard to tell for sure, and you have to be up looking inside the cutouts to notice- that's what I was trying to do for you in photo 13. The piece is in excellent solid and sturdy condition. The finish is a semi gloss varnish, and you can see spots of wear to that and the stain- very minor. I'm showing in photos 8& 9 tha
