Large Eastlake *Spoon Carved* Furniture Panel/Pediment-Rare ONE OF A KIND!!!
You are invited to bid on an ornate- ONE OF A KIND- carved panel(walnut or mahogany not sure) It measures approx 53 in. long. 10 1/2 wide and 1/2-5/8 in. thick. The center is highly carved(spoon carving) with detailed flowers and leaves across the entire panel. The carved portion measures approx 49 by 7in. This is a heavy piece, weighs almost 10 lbs. before packing. The panel edges are beveled to slip on adjoining panel(tounge& grove) and the beveled tounge has splits that can be glued or removed based on your intended usage. The outer edge also has several splits that do not effect the structure of the panel that can be glued for an invisable repair. This finely carved panel exemplifies the craftsmanship of days gone by. Large. Salvaged panel with spoon carved Eastlake details, 2 medallions, pierced fretwork with clovers, 4 columns. Measures 13.5 inches tall in the front and 13.25 inches in back for one long side angles back slightly. The piece measures 45.5 inches long. Has a one inch ledge. Beautiful dark tiger oak. There are two holes on the ends(one each end) and one minor chip on the very end(see photo) On the back there are scratches like someone scratch the wood when taking something off- perhaps something that was at one time behind the open fretwork. Striking Antique 19th Century Victorian Era Hand Carved Wood Pediment Panel
Striking Antique 19th Century Victorian Era Hand Carved Wood Pediment Panel Ooooh. Got very lucky this week at one of my favorite flea markets. I have just about everything, from the very old and primitive to the very unique with some fabulous folk art thrown in too! I’ll be listing all week, so keep checking back! I'm telling you. I have some reeeeeeeally cool old pediments, architectural pieces and furniture parts this week- you want to check back for my other listings too! This one is so old, and so beautiful, I just can't say enough about it. It's also somewhat of a mystery to me. It was clearly a panel- my gut tells me in a cabinet rather than architectural(unless it was a built in, which it clearly could have been) You can see a smooth 1/4" border all around where the decorative texture of the center stops, and small ... morenail holes(like I'm showing in photo 13) all along the border from whatever it used to be mounted into. That part I GET. The mystery to me is on the backside, though, where you can also see a row of small nails all around, and there's teenie pieces of a black material( see photo 21) stuck under some of those nails still. Also, in the center, is a round piece of very hard old leather nailed into place- I don't THINK it has to do with the mounting of the carved pieces on the front, I can't be sure, but it appears to have had some other function at one point in time. Could this have been the front panel of a cabinet door with a fabric(or maybe padded fabric) door interior? I don't know for sure, and it's not telling me! I can tell you as of late, it's been hung as a decorative piece, as there's a modern day picture hanger on the back. The body is made from solid piece wood, with a beveled edge on three sides that bevels down to the smooth border with the nail holes. The fourth end, which is a short end, is not beveled. This is a really nice heavily carved antique Victorian walnut pediment or panel. It has a nice center panel or medallion along with brackets on each corner. Floral cornices and carved trim. It measures aprox. 40 3/4" wide(33 1/4" wide at the top) x 23 1/2" high x 4 1/2" deep. There is a small piece of trim missing at the top left which you can see in the pictures, we may have a piece that can be used. Overall it is in good condition.
