Original Stevengraph Silk Woven Picture: "Ye Old Crown House" Story Back
Quite rare original Stevengraph in its original mount: Thomas Stevens silk woven picture. Ye Old Crown House" depicting the famous building in Birmingham. England. This example has the story back label(image 3) which gives all the details about the building. One of several Stevengraphs I am listing this week- do have a look at the others. The silk size is 4x2 inches approximately and the mount size is 7x5.5 inches Date: 1880-1900 The word Stevengraph was coined by Thomas Stevens of Coventry. England who adapted his jacquard looms to produce multi-coloured images in pure silk. Silk bookmarks were produced from the early 1860s and the pictures and portraits from 1879. Fewer and fewer are appearing for sale these days so they are becoming quite scarce. Mr Stevens had many rivals but his weavings are considered to be the best. Published by Golden Press Inc. New York! This is book"B" and this can be found on the last page in the bottom right corner. THIS IS THE ONLY BOOK LIKE THIS I HAVE SEEN WITH A RED"B" marked on the back page. ALL other books like this have a Black letter. So I found this to be odd. Now the actual copy right is 1949. The binding of this rare book was especially devised for children's books. It is uncommonly strong and durable. ... moreAnd will with stand rough treatment. The covers can be folded completely, without damage to the binding, and the pages will resist almost any amount of energetic tugging. This is printed in the back of the book. So obviously back then they made quality merchandise. The book measures 12.5" x 9.5" and is in overall decent condition. The books pages are in very nice condition. You can tell this book was well taken care of and hardly read. There is a place in the front of the book where someone can write his or her own name. There is some wear and tear on the corners of the outside hardback of book and the outside is also a bit dirty. There is one place in front where someone had a pencil in their hand while opening the book and about 1.5" line exist on the very first page where someone could write there name. Other than this mark I see no other places. The pages are NOT RIPPED nor do I see any creases! Now the outside hardback cover on the book is quite dirty. The back as a red spot and another spot where someone must of had paint or something like that near it. Antique French Faience Plate Sarreguemines Utzschneider Children Picture Story
VERY RARE antique French Faience plate ca.1900 Sarreguemines Utzschneider. It has an adorable scene with children playing at lake and having a picnic. And has a floral chintz border. This is a large display plate measuring 11 3/8" it has a two hole opening on the back for adding a ribbon or rope for hanging. It may have been originally used as a child's warming plate. There are no chips, cracks, or fading of colors. There is crazing in the glaze on both sides, but is still an absolutely beautiful piece of work.

Enter: The Comics Rodolphe Topffer's Essay On Physiognomy and The True Story Of Monsieur Crepin. Translated and edited. With an introduction by E. Wiese. Published by University of Nebraska Press in 1965. This is a hardcover book with dust jacket measuring about 7 x 9 with 80 pages. The book is in LIKE NEW condition. The cover has no wear, the binding is tight, and the pages are clean. The dust jacket is in GOOD+ condition with some wear and small tears. Rodolphe Topffer(1799-1846) is considered the father of today's comics. The editor, Ellen Wiese, holds various degrees and has done research on this topic. There is also a gift inscription in the book that appears to be signed by her. We're not sure it is her signature, could be, but probably doesn't affect the value of the book either way. Probably a mess produced tourist souvenir. The picture itself is kinda crude. The feathers are only used on the bird and the rest is painted and there is staining on the back but very interesting history of"Feathercraft" on the back of this and it describes the very long history of this art work style. It goes back beyond 1521. A an ancient art form. CAN you image. The Tarascan Indians of Michaacen made hummingbird feather capes for their kings? Hummingbirds are tiny!
