It has a touch marked on the outside of the rim but it is unclear and I have no clue as to who the maker was… It was not tested as to whether it’s silver or not but I am selling it as silver-plate none the less The chalice is highly decorated with multiple circular beaded patterns making a nice simple design. It also has two individual birds shrouded in a leafy foliage motif on two sides CONDITION: The silver on this chalice seem to be intact showing only a mild tarnish like oxidation however it still displays a silver surface that shines The reservoir or the chalices interior shows evidence of a light old gold wash finish. There is one dimple-ding that can be seen in my photographs It does not appear to be offensive although it is there and I only mention it for accuracy(See pictures) Approx. Antique FRENCH 19th Century Church CHALICE STERLING SILVER BRONZE PATTEE CROSS
Antique 19th Century Sterling Silver& Bronze Religious Chalice with case. This chalice was used for many years during church services. The upper cup portion is Sterling Silver. The hallmark/stamps have worn away a bit with use and are hard to decipher(see photos) I believe the stamps to be French) The stem and base are Brass and Silver Plated. Most of the Silver plating on the stem has worn away. The base is engraved with leaves and one Pattee Alisee Cross. The chalice has not been cleaned and will be left as-is for the purchaser to care for as they choose. Overall this is a very beautiful piece! Worthy of the Vatican Museum, made of solid silver in France in the late 19th century(circa 1870) This is a spectacular piece of sacred art, full of beauty and style and with hallmarks in all its parts. The chalice is in perfect condition and so is the paten that comes with it, engraved with the initials IHS, the cross and the Sacred Heart: the classic acronym symbolizing Christ. The paten and chalice set boast an inimitable beauty, specially the first one, whose big size let the silversmith that made it display his or her art in the shape of wonderful decorative engraved motives. The chalice’s base is big and is decorated with grape bunches symbolizing the wine that turns into Jesus Christ’s Blood during the Eucharist. Just over them we can ... moresee some angel heads between different religious figures. Male and female, and a scene of the New Testament. We can see Saint Peter, a female figure(probably Virgin Mary) and a scene depicting the Virgin at the foot of the crucified Christ. Over the base, the central node is decorated with figs and grapes and winged angel heads. The cup is also beautifully engraved. It is made up by an openwork silver stand hat holds the cup itself. Made of flat silver. The stand is embellished with several engravings: one of them depicts a female figure with an anchor, the traditional attribute of St. Philomena. We can also see an image of the Virgin with a cross and the Sacred Host. Finally, there is also another woman with three small kids. These images, highly beautiful, are separated by three engravings depicting plants: wheat, a fig and rushes. Both the chalice and the paten have hallmarks in all their parts, at the cup and at the base, marks that testify for the origin and quality of the silver they are made of. This beautiful set comes from France and was made for military use. Both pieces are of simple design and are scarcely decorated. Something typical of the sober religious items used in the army. The chalice is a remarkable piece, not only because of its beauty and the precious metal it is made of but also because it can be dismantled in order to store it into the leather case. Both pieces are in great condition and come into in an original antique case. The chalice boasts a sober and stylish design, with fire-gilt silver parts that enhance its beauty. This piece and the paten that comes with it bear hallmarks that guarantee the quality of the precious metal they are made of. This set is a nice antique and a magnificent sacred art piece that has survived to our days in excellent condition and shows off an exceptional beauty. The chalice’s design is singularly elegant. Boasting a sober style with a powerful decorative look. The base’s background is embellished with a squared motive over which a series of symmetrical petals display. These petals emerge from the ... morestem and are decorated with vegetal-inspired motives that remind the fleur-de-lis shape. One of them contains a Latin cross. The stem has two nodes, a smaller one and the main one, the latter with squared background and vegetal-inspired motives. It also bears a series of leaves that join at the beginning of the stem. The node located between the cup and the base is decorated in a similar way. Between the main node and the base there is a smaller node simpler in design, with a decoration of moldings. If we turn the chalice, under the base we will find a stamp with the inscription BIAIS AINE& CIE. PARIS. On the other hand, the paten is also made of sterling silver and its only decoration is an engraved Greek cross in the center. It has the same contrasts that we have seen at the chalice’s cup. As stated before. Both pieces are stored into their original case, a rectangular container outside covered by black faux leather. Inside it is lined with red velvet. Up for your consideration is a simple but beautiful sterling chalice from France. Dating back to the 40"s. It is in wonderful conditition. It has a Gothic node and a Gothic undercup lining that carries the French maker's hallmark and the 925 sterling quality grade. The base offers a Chi Rho cross. It comes with a wonderful original sterling paten. The base of the chalice has one very very tini nick vis a vis the Chi Rho cross at the back of the chalice. You must have a good eye to notice it(see picture 4) It measures 8" tall. It was offered in 1954 as a ordination gift but I believe it was many a few years before(1945+/ It comes with the original travelling case that is in very good condition. The chalice has a plain circular rounded bell shaped form onto a knopped pedestal and stepped spreading hexafoil shaped foot. The foot of this impressive chalice is ornamented with a floral motif to one panel. The knop to the stem is encircled with applied rope twist style borders. The drinking vessel and underside of the paten retain the original gilding. The paten has a subtly convex circular form and is embellished with the contemporary engraved initials‘ihr’ This impressive set retains the original ... moredrip cloth ornamented with an embroidered cross-patonce. The communion set is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with velvet and satin interior. Which secures with a push fit catch. The front of the box is equipped with two leatherette covered cord carrying handles. Condition This antique communion et is a very good gauge of silver. In keeping with age; the handles have some loss to the leatherette covering, this does not affect the integrity or detract from the aesthetic appearance. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the chalice and surface of the paten are all very clear apart from the maker’s mark to each which is not clearly struck but remains legible. Silver and Gold Chalice Church Vessel This is truly a nice chalice. It is made of some kind of silver. I don't see any metal markings to verify the metal. But it is heavy. Inside the cup it looks gold. The chalice has some tarnishing, but overall in great condition. No scratches or other markings. It stands at 8 inches tall. The cup is 3 inches deep and 4 1/4 inches in diameter. The node is nice and the stem is amazing! There are four different saints/angels around the stem. I'm not sure exactly who is depicted on the stem, but the detail is great. There is a nice firm base with a celtic style cross on it. On the bottom is an inscription. The set is completely made of sterling silver and bears hallmarks in all its parts. Marks that testify for the quality and origin of the noble metal. The design of both pieces is simple and attractive, with its elegant sturdiness and timeless beauty. The silver is decorated with hand-engraved motives and a great part of its surface has been embellished with a delicate golden shade. The chalice stands on an ample circular base decorated with a fringe with engraved motives. These motives depict grape bunches and fig leaves; these designs are closely related to the celebration of Eucharist. Over the base. The stem is crossed by a main node adorned with a similar but smaller fringe. The ... morecup is also engraved in this way, and at its base we can see some scallop-shaped motives, simple and elegant. The decoration is sober and classy, and together with the beauty of the silver itself turns this chalice into a singularly attractive article. The paten bears a decoration of engraved motives too. In the center we can see the letters IHS. An abbreviation of Jesus Christ, framed by some schematic designs depicting wheat stalks. The stalks symbolize the bread that turns into the Body of Christ, while the chalice’s grapes are a symbol of the wine that turns into His Blood. As stated before, both the paten and the chalice bear hallmarks in different parts. Vintage Communion Set with a Chalice & 2 Gorham Silver Plate Glass Cruets
0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false A three piece communion set that includes a silver plated chalice and two hand blown glass cruets with silver plated mounted tops. The foot of the chalice and the tops of the cruets have hand chased Maltese crosses. The two cruets have hand engraved Maltese crosses on the front of the glass bodies. The rims of both cruets have the Gorham silverplate mark. They are marked G.M.F.G. Co with the anchor mark and O 50. The chalice has a mark with a letter G inside a circle that is topped with a cross. We have not been able to identify this mark. But we are attributing it to Gorham since the chalice and cruets came from the same estate. The cruets measure 7” high. They show signs of light wear. There is a tiny crack on the underside of the folded foot. But it is minor. The chalice measures 5 5/8” high and ... morehas a 3 3/4” rim diameter. It shows signs of light wear. The bowl of the chalice tilts so that one side of the rim is slightly higher than the opposite side. There is also a silver test mark on the underside of the base.
