This exceptionally large Italian Grand Tour Era(or perhaps earlier) Micromosaic- 9.75” x 7.75” with original frame is indeed a rare find. Besides the amazing size. The micro mosaic is beautifully vibrant in color, detailed in design, and elegant in theme. It shows Venice's iconic Rialto Bridge spanning the Grand Canal, with gondolas in the foreground and other structures lining the canal in the background. The cement-filled metal pan back gives the piece a hefty weight, while the ornate carved wooden frame(believed to be original or at the very least quite old) lends a further sense of classical beauty. The piece is at least 100 years old, and as such there have been a few areas of repair over time where missing bits of tile have been artfully replaced with matched grout, but all seem to have been done long ago by someone who knew what ... morethey were doing. Up for sale is an antique Italian micro mosaic. This one measure 8 x 5 inches. The piece is was shadow box framed probably in the 1950s or 60s. It displays nicely but that frame is missing a small piece of its gesso. The micro mosaic is still in its original frame. I have added detailed pictures and they show the piece well.
