Outstanding Mexican Folk Art Sacred Heart with Milagros
This is a really beautiful sacred heart from Mexico.hand carved and covered in a stamped pounded metal with designs. A brass Virgin of Guadalupe is inlaid on the top of the metal and the flames on the top are carved wood. I purchased this in Guadalajara Mexico a few years ago. It is in perfect condition. Has been hanging on the wall all this time. Really nice piece for the collector of Mexican folk art and religious memorabilia. Pretty. Pretty decor for your home. It measures 9 inches from the top of the flame to the bottomo of the heart and 7 inches across at the widest part.

Antique Mexican Cross with Milagros Mexico- 19th Century ~ please scroll down for more photos ~ SIZE: Height- 25" Width- 13.5" Thickness- 0.75" DESCRIPTION: Antique Mexican black-painted wood cross with over one hundred metal Milagros nailed on to it. Circa 1880- 1910. The wood cross is finely made. With nicely finished edges and shaped with three lobes at the ends of the pieces. It has three holes in the back where it was once attached to something, maybe a wall or altar in a church, and a more recent brass attachment at the top for hanging. The milagros are quite varied. Both in the different images they represent and in the way they were made. Some are molded, some are molded with stamped and chiseled details, but most are completely handmade from flat sheet metal that has been cut out and detailed with rocker-engraving, ... morerepousse, and engraved- chiseled designs and features. They also seem to vary in their metal content with some being plain or gilded brass, some gilded copper, and some made of silver, silver plated, and gilded silver. It is difficult to know what many are made of as they have developed an very darkened aged patina over the past 100 or more years. Many of the flat Milagros are made in techniques reminiscent of Native American silver work from the Southwest- New Mexico area. These have rocker-engraving. Annealing marks visible, and small end-of-file or leather stamp designs(for the eyes of some of the charms) which you can see in the close-up photos. AGE: Circa 1880- 1910 CONDITION: Good condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: Probably a few Milagros and nails have been lost. The wood has developed an old, worn patina to the black-painted surfaces. The Milagros have developed a very dark patina and a few are bent or have small losses. The wood cross is sturdy and has no losses or damage. No restorations overall. Made in Mexico. This vintage wooden cross is painted red around edges with engraved metal veneer within the wood frame. A cut tin cross is on top of the silver veneer with a second tin layer with cut-out heart. Underneath the tin heart is amethyst-colored glass. If you shine a light on it(and use a magnifier) there appears to be a saint or Madonna head within the heart. A number of Milagros and medallions accent this great piece of Mexican folk art. This Mexican"Retablo. or altar, sanctuary, is what is left of a burned church in Juarez, Mexico. It was used during special festivals commemorating the"Nino's" miracles. The paint is in excellent condition for its age- it was made in Guadalajara in the late 1800's and brought to Juarez, Chihuahua, which is El Paso, TX's sister city. Bright colors as is found on anything Mexican. Hand painted wood retablo and hand painted figure of the Nino on canvas. Measures 48 x 18 x 3.5 exterior and 15 x 28 x 3.5 interior. Has space to place candles for adoration and sacrifice during times of waiting for miracles to manifest. It also has two sets of notches cut into the front of the retablo which are suspected to be for carrying it and placing sacrificial candles. The paint looks to have been touched up a few times. The Santo Niño Cautivo is the Catholic patron saint of the captive people. The infant Jesus is said to have appeared to a Sevillian named Juan Martinez Montanes.The name"Captive Child" was given because during his journey from Spain to Mexico, the child fell into the hands of pirates and was imprisoned along with the child, until in 1622, he arrived in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City. The Santo Niño is the patron of those who want to be reformed from being captive to alcohol and vices. In early 2000 the Catholic Church began to venerate him as an intercessor for the health of the hostages, in order to return safely to their homes. The Catholic Church has not officially granted patronage to the Holy Child, but this has not prevented the popular faith from being taken as a benefactor of those who are in that situation. Double stranded and set with turquoise and shell beads, and 46(by our count) molded metal charms of crosses, and people in various states of prayer. Milagros are tiny votive offerings representing a request for a favor or to give thanks for one granted. They are directed towards Christ. The Virgin or a saint depending on what the supplicant is praying to request/thank. The exact significance of a milagro(miracle) is only known to the person who asked for the favor(and of course. The saint) They represent hope. The image(heart. Leg, person, eye, etc. symbolizes the problem or concern of the petitioner and was hung in a Catholic church. They are not sanctioned by the church, they portray a blend of the indigenous and European beliefs which still exists today. In Mexico, milagros are made of copper, lead, silver, gold, brass, tin, pewter or bronze. Some are alloys dipped in silver or gold to look more valuable. The Mexican Milagros we sell are vintage. Estimated to be at least 50 years old, ... moresome older. Some have the original ribbon/string/pin used to attach them. None have been cleaned. They were acquired in Mexico City from a large private collection in June 2004. They had been in storage for over 20 years and were vintage when originally acquired. These are authentic, used folk art pieces. On subsequent trips we have tried to purchase more vintage milagros but have not been successful. We are now selling the last ones we have from the original purchase. This lot has 18 pieces total. Six with the original ribbon/string used to hang the milagro in the church. Milagros mexican ethnic embroidered jacket M/L
Amazing Mexican blanket pattern cropped jacket with velvet appliqué down the front. Lined in smoky lavender. Open front with no closures. Very good condition. Gently worn. The only tiny problem is a stress mark in the fabric near the left armpit on the back of the jacket. This is shown in the last two photos. It is an easy fix and I will repair it before the jacket is sent to you. But did want the buyer to know there was a repair made. Otherwise no problems. This will fit a medium or large. Probably best for a size 10-12. The bust measures 38 inches with the front touching as if it were completely closed/zipped. The waist measures 32 inches. The body of the jacket is 17.5 inches long down the center of the back. The sleeves are 22 inches from the shoulder seam to the cuff.
