LOVELY 1893 World's Fair Blue Mary Gregory Glass Mug Cup
Here is a rare and wonderful antique souvenir from the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. It is a lovely blue blown glass handled cup or mug with Mary Gregory white paintings of a child on one side. It is etched with"World's Fair 1893" on one side of the handle and"Nellie Johnson" on the other; obviously the proud original owner of this gem. The etchings are a bit difficult to see in the photos. But are just fine in person. The cup is 3 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches in diameter across the top. The top of of the rim has gold paint that is only worn in one small spot; there are a few very, very minute nicks to that rim that are really negligible. There are several imperfections in the glass, especially near the handle and 2 look like white spots(one is on the bottom by the end of the handle and the other is on the ... moreside right above the attachment of the bottom of the handle) Some tiny air bubbles throughout as well. A genuine antique'Mary Gregory' blue ruffled vase hand painted with enamels. It has been hand blown and has all the ripples. Striations and tiny bubbles associated with antique glass of this age. Country of origin I believe is probably Bohemia and dating to late 19th/early 20th century, so the Victorian/Edwardian period here in England. The base has a rough snapped off pontil mark. SIZE- Pictures are MAGNIFIED to show detail, so please judge size by measurements It measures approximately 7 3/4 inches(19.6 cm) in height x 3 3/4 inches(9.5cms) in diameter at the widest part. CONDITION IS VERY GOOD antique condition with no chips.
