Antique vintage decorative architectural plaster head mask Greco-Roman church
A large decorative antique plaster head measuring approx 13" x 13" x 6" 33cm x 33cm x 15cm) possibly from an architectural moulding or grand building. It makes a stunning feature or an impressive wall hanging. Its in good condition for its age- I believe it has been painted in matt chalk coloured paint a long time ago and there are a few small areas where this is peeling. But I think this adds to its vintage character, although you could probably strip the paint off if you wanted to get it down to the bare plaster. This is pretty heavy and being plaster. You can collect or I am happy to send it by courier. However it probably wouldn't be insured as it would be considered fragile so this will be at your own risk, although I will package it very carefully, and build a wooden frame for transport and wrap it in copious amounts ... moreof cardboard and bubble wrap. 1870s HUGE Folk Art Architectural Church Finial Primitive OAK Newel Post Cap
GIANT. Original, solid oak, beehive finial. Incredible primitive patina. Would also make a striking garden ornament. Salvaged from late, 19th century, Chicago church. To give a better idea of the grand staircase this was recovered from, I saved a piece of the original newel post that once supported it(last photo) Overall it measured over 7 feet tall! Now, this architectural gem makes a breathtaking piece of folk art. It proudly displays its age and history. Apparently when electricity caught on, someone added a newel post lamp on top to illuminate the stairway. Lot A: Architectural Salvage from St. Patrick’s Church. Urbana, Il, When Altar Was Turned To Face the People We obtained these from an Urbana resident who saved these pieces when St. Patrick’s Catholic Church remodeled their altar to face their congregants after Vatican II’s reforms. There will be 3 listings. Each item is just as we found it. Lot A: set of 4 wood apparently hanging drop ornaments or accents or enormous bulbous finials OR perhaps even massive feet. Measuring about 71/4” tall by about 5” at its widest diameter. 3 of the 4 retain their grime& thick paint as they were removed from the church; the last one has been stripped down to its raw pine wood. The 2 square made nails still protruding have been cut off. A 1 ½” tall by 1 3/16” wood peg extends from the middle of the flat“base” on each of these to fasten them with ... morethe added support of 2 or 3 large iron square nails. The paint ranges from less than 1/16” to 1/16” thick. I believe most if not all the paint used was“white” although there may have been a greenish gray much earlier. Each piece“begins” with the thick peg which emerges from a large somewhat flattened“donut” shape which leads down a vertically curved short column to a much smaller version of the first“donut” shape. The carved architectural element ends with a raised dome or knob of sorts. One piece has a tar- like substance on part of it. The story these could tell. ~ ~ ~ We charge actual shipping costs only. This is one of two very old ornate wood panel doors with folding privacy screens. After much debate. We determined that they were originally part of a church, perhaps modesty doors on a confessional. This is just our opinion since we have never come across something this unique. Hand carved oak leafs. Only the front is carved. Back is flush. Pegged tenons& ship lap joints leads us to believe the doors are 19th century or even earlier. They are solid and fairly heavy. Given the age. They do have several conditional issues and we'll let the photos address these issues. I consider all the issues expected honest wear. This door has a crack which is displayed in a close up photo. Otherwise ... moreit is structurally sound with plenty of character. The previous owner hung them for display and they have the hangers on the back but they could be re-purposed for any creative use. Garden, or church.but wherever it may have come from, this is such a unique and one of a kind piece that could be used as a compliment to so many creative projects! You can see by the edge on the back side and the unpainted edges on the front that this was probably the panel from a cupboard door. There is a routed Gothic arch in the center. It has a worn coat of apple green paint on it but under that. The wood is very pretty. This would be nice to simply place on a shelf or mantel leaning against the wall with some special figure or object in front of it.
