Pair Antique Miniature European Oil Landscape/ Floral Paintings - Ornate Frames
Pair of charming antique oil paintings of landscapes. Probably European in origin. Ornately framed with brass decorated with filigree and paste? gems. One is signed"Fanny" last name hard to make out) and the other does not appear to be signed. Mats are velvet and glass ovals are convex. Each has a small loop at the top for hanging. These loops were originally brass but one has been rather clumsily replaced. See pix. These oils are out of the estate of a woman who died at 102 and had previously owned an antique shop on Cape Cod. Frames are 6.5 x 7.5 inches and oval painted area is 3.5 x 4.5. Good quality antique oils. Wish I knew more about them.

Check out my! Antique Chinese or Japanese 6 panel table/fireplace screen. I'm not certain of its age but it shows definite signs of age with a nice patina and appropriate condition issues. I will say it is from 1870-1920. Chinese Export. Each section has a different scene painted on board. Panels have a top carved section with flowers and leaves. Also carved scenes along the edges and in the middle. Bottom section has animal carved. At the very bottom is another carved floral design. Paper label on back. You can see a picture of the hinges. Its like a pin and slot mechanism. Really good quality with nice joinery at the ends. Each carved section is a panel. Condition: Some damage throughout. Second section has pieces of the top carving missing. The oil painting on the end piece is peeling. Random cracks throughout. In pretty good shape ... moreoverall for its age. Signed Nollen 1859 Antique Victorian Family Portrait Oil Paintings Baby Picture
We have today two wonderful oil paintings on canvas that has been applied to board. The first depicts a distinguished gentlemen in a black top coat with a jeweled gold stick pin. His wife in a black dress with lacy collar and cameo broach. She is holding a baby in a blue gown. Both are signed(Nollen.Fec) see below for description) and dated 1859! Oval Frames are(23 1/4" X 19 1/2" in later gold painted molded wooden frames. Probably continental. There is a slight scratch under the baby’s right eye. There are many very tiny white flecks to the mother’s dark dress is also some invisible in-painting. We believe and have confirmed with someone familiar with his work. That in all probability this to be an original painting done by Gerhard H. Nollen. Please examine the pictures and confirm for yourself as we are not experts. He moved to Keokuk in 1856 and was identified in the town's 1859-60 business directory as a portrait painter. Nollen returned to Pella in the early 1870s and married Gertrude Kramer in 1874. By 1879, Nollen was established as a portrait painter in Pella, Iowa. He is arguably one of Iowa's most unknown and gifted artists. These people are albert hitman olson and his wife pauline jorgine tanke pederson they lived from 1860's to the 1920's and these were painted in 1903. I know this because it was written on the back of the pictures by the owner! Anyway these were nicely sealed and closed up when i got them but i had to open them up to inspect, want to know what they are, fancy touched up photos or paintings? good thing i opened them because we got all the fun info from the owner and i can give the glass a good cleaning and it needs it. Ok so what i estimate is these are paintings, i can see all the many brush strokes everywhere, did they use a photographic outline, possible, they are on cardboard, interestingly, ... morei have a great series of paintings on cardboard in my store that were done in the late 20's to early 30's, so cardboard the versatile medium. As to painting medium? unsure very thin oil? I estimate that someone cut these down and put these very old paintings into these frames in the 50's. The glass may have been added later it is antireflective and not professionally cut, all ruff on the edges. One of these may be faintly signed by the painter on the back Monnts? So anyway these paintings are a bit rough the lady especially has scratches the man is better, but they have seen some time i do not think they were always protected by glass. Overall no matter what very enjoyable the lady is very stern as was the requirement of her era, the man seems to have a more pleasant outlook, he was younger that her and outlived her.
