ANTIQUE/VTG/1940s MICRO-MOSAIC/PIETRA DURA/MILLEFIORI CLIP-ON EARRINGS ITALIAN
Offered are an INCREDIBLE and EXTREMELY TASTEFUL pair of 1940s/World War II-era. Hand-crafted, Italian micro-mosaic, 7/8-inch button-style earrings. They look really STUNNING on and are not too busy, like some other designs I've seen. They were brought back to the United States from Italy by a soldier for his sweetheart. Although now approximately 75 years old, these earrings remain in very good. Extremely wearable shape. When seen under the camera's flash. Each earring looks like it has a green stone missing. In actuality, they do not. Those spaces were never filled and are not noticeable under normal lighting conditions, as you can see in my photo taken without a flash. The grout behind each earring's tiny. Glass tiles is lighter in color. And that is what the camera picks up, under a flash. These earrings are constructed of ... moresilverplated brass. Millefiori tiles and micro-mosaic tiles, the latter two of which are made by mouth-blowing glass. The clip-on clasps hold the earrings in place at a comfortable but secure pressure. These earrings would look lovely worn with a sage-colored top or paired with any shade from the fall color palette. I am an olive-skinned brunette; and, when worn with fall shades, these earrings look STRIKING. You will be hard-pressed to find a more unique and charming accessory. Antique MICRO MOSAIC LACQUERED SNUFF BOX 1807 ZEUS Signed LUCHINI
This is an early 19th century lacquered box. Probably used for snuff, with a micro mosaic portrait of who I think is porbably the Greek god Zeus imbedded in the lid. Unusual in that it is signed and dated: G. or"C" B. Luchini F. 1807. With the two halves together the box measures 2 7/8" in diameter and 3/4" wide. The part of the mosaic that shows measures 2 1/2" in diameter. The mosaic which is made out of thousands of tiny stones is in very good condition with exceptional detail and nuance. There are numerous tiny spaces between the stones. But I only see one or two spaces that may be the result of a missing tiny stone. Does not seem to have any repairs/replaced stones. Some dirt along the edge that was not removed with a light, superficial damp cloth cleaning; I will leave the decision of further cleaning to the ... morenew owner. The box itself has some condition issues; the metal liner on the rim of the box on both sides has some damage, and the box no longer stays together as it should. I think the bottom liner originally stuck out above the rim of the bottom of the box so the two pieces could be put together, but it does not any longer. The box was also glued together at some point and shows some glue residue along the edges. Insurance is required for this auction and is included in the postage cost. THIS IS A UNITED STATES. This exceptionally large Italian Grand Tour Era(or perhaps earlier) Micromosaic- 9.75” x 7.75” with original frame is indeed a rare find. Besides the amazing size. The micro mosaic is beautifully vibrant in color, detailed in design, and elegant in theme. It shows Venice's iconic Rialto Bridge spanning the Grand Canal, with gondolas in the foreground and other structures lining the canal in the background. The cement-filled metal pan back gives the piece a hefty weight, while the ornate carved wooden frame(believed to be original or at the very least quite old) lends a further sense of classical beauty. The piece is at least 100 years old, and as such there have been a few areas of repair over time where missing bits of tile have been artfully replaced with matched grout, but all seem to have been done long ago by someone who knew what ... morethey were doing.
