This fine antique Boston School violin by Calvin Baker is offered to the highest bidder with no reserve. The violin bears the original label of C alvin Baker. And the handwritten inscription"with wood from Hollis St Church" The violin was shown at the exhibition and conference of the American Federation of Violin and Bowmakers on April 7th. 2006, as a fine example of his work. Two Baker violins were presented; this being one of them. A handout mentioning this violin. From the co nference, will accompany the violin. The Hollis Street Church(1732- 1887) in Boston Massachu setts was a Congregational(1732- ca.1800) and Unitarian(ca.1800- 1887) church. It merged with the South Congregational Society of Boston in 1887.The church building. Designed and built by Charles Bulfinch(the architect of the Massachusetts State house) Had originally ... morebeen the Hollis Street Church in Boston until it was purchased by the Union Religious Society of Braintree and Weymouth in 1810. It was taken down piece by piece. Floated on a raft to Braintree and rebuilt on Quincy Ave near Commercial St. next to the railroad tracks. The church design was slightly altered and a new bell. Forged by Paul Revere, was placed in the clock tower. First services were held in the church in November 1810. The church burnt to the ground on June 19th 1897 caused by embers from a passing t rain. It was the most destructive fire in Braintree's history. The Church before the fire early in the fire The Church finally burned to the ground Weymouth Fire Brigade Calvin Baker is now recognized as a founding member of the Boston School of violin making. He was manager of the shop owned by Asa and Warren White in Boston and ran the repair shop at Boston's leading violin dealer of the time. He lived in Weymouth. The Fabulous Bakers Boys is a book of photos taken by JEFF BRIDGES on the set of the same titled movie from Dec. 5th 1988 to Feb. 18th 1989. These books were never for sale in book stores. Mr. Bridges had the books printed privately and handed them out to cast and crew from the film as a memento. These Jeff Bridges photography books from the sets of his films are VERY RARE.
