Terrific Neanderthal Levallois Core, Flint Silex, Stone Age Mousterian Europe
Terrific Neanderthal Levallois Core. Flint Silex, Stone Age Mousterian Europe Description Type: Levallois core. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Middle Palaeolithic/ Mousterian. Dating: the particular site from approx. 130.000 B.C. stage 6 of the oxygen-isotope chronology up to approx. 40.000 B.C. Description: Size: 4.4 cm x 4,9 cm x 3,6 cm, weight 95 grams, Shape. Retouch: a terrific small Levallois core for small flakes! It is of typical tortoise shape. With prepared underside, prepared edges, prepared platform and prepared reduction face. Judged by it’s thickness, the core must still be almost in it’s initial stage, if at all, only few target-flakes were detached. The core is turned clockwise from picture 1 to 4, the last ones show upper end and the platform. Two point of percussions are marked(preparation flakes) Raw-material: flint with ... morethick creamy patination, Preservation: very well. No modern damages. Some matrix from the orogonal site layer still adheres to the core’s surface, Origin. Site: a famous Paleolithic site in the valley of a tributary of the Dordogne river. Dept. Gorgeous Retouched Levallois Point, Mousterian Famous Provenance 50.000 BC
Gorgeous Retouched Levallois Point. Mousterian Famous Provenance 50.000 BC Description Type: laterally retouched Levallois point. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Middle Palaeolithic: Mousterian/ Mousterian in Acheulian Tradition(MAT) Dating: the particular site: ca. 55.000- 40.000 B.C. Description: Size: length 6.3 cm, weight 34 grams, Shape. Retouch: a gorgeous Levallois point with fine accommodation retouch at the left edge and significant retouch at the right one. The tip even has a retouch on the interior side. Some technological remarks: this is a Levallois point although point of percussion is not at the bottom end of the long axis of the point. But at the margin of the prepared platform remnant. This is due to the way target-flakes were detached from a core. Often, one target-flake was detached from the center of a reduction face, and ... morethen one was detached left and right. This point here is a right one, the cortical area at the proximal end was part of the core’s right margin, and the faceted part at the proximal end was part of the core’s pepared platform. Anyway, this is not a core preparation flake/ pseudo-Levallois flake! Raw-material: brown flint with some white patination, Preservation: very well. No modern damages, Origin. Site: Le Moustier. terrific neanderthal flint sraper on large levallois flake Mousterian ca.50000BC
The Neandertal was named after theologian Joachim Neander. Who lived nearby in Düsseldorf in the late 17th century. Neander" is a classicized form of the common German surname Neumann. In turn, Neanderthals were named after"Neander Valley" where the first Neanderthal remains were found. The term Neanderthal Man was coined in 1863 by Anglo-Irish geologist William King. From the period called"Mousterian" 150 000- 40 000 b.c. tools made of stone. Settlement sites and some parts of human skulls were found. Evidence for hunters and collectors in this period was found in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and other parts of Germany. Neanderthals are thought to have used tools of the Mousterian class. Which were often produced using soft hammer percussion, with hammers made of materials like bones, antlers, and wood, rather ... morethan hard hammer percussion, using stone hammers. A result of this is that their bone industry was relatively simple. However, there is good evidence that they routinely constructed a variety of stone implements. Neanderthal(Mousterian) tools most often consisted of sophisticated stone-flakes, task-specific hand axes, and spears. Many of these tools were very sharp. There is also good evidence that they used a lot of wood, objects which are unlikely to have been preserved until today. Typ: terrific flint scraper on large levallois flake with wonderful dorsal flaking and outstanding dorsal and ventral edge retouching. Marvellous thick patina on beautiful patterned flint excellent provenance The work traces of the Neanderthals which he left in the manufacture of the tool is to see very well Material: flint This unique artefact is from an Neanderthal base camp.
