Dating: approx. 300.000 to 200.000 B.C. Description: Size: 11.5 cm x 13,4 cm x 3,6 cm, weight 560 grams, Shape. Retouch: a gorgeous large Levallois remnant core with flat underside. Prepared edges, prepared platform and domed, also prepared reduction face. It shows the negative scar of the last target– flake which was detached. The core once must have been way thicker, it became too thin for further flake production which most probably was the reason for discarding. It is turned clockwise from picture 1 to 4, the next ones show upper end and platform. The Neandertal was named after theologian Joachim Neander. Who lived nearby in Düsseldorf in the late 17th century. Neander" is a classicized form of the common German surname Neumann. In turn, Neanderthals were named after"Neander Valley" where the first Neanderthal remains were found. The term Neanderthal Man was coined in 1863 by Anglo-Irish geologist William King. From the period called"Mousterian" 150 000- 40 000 b.c. tools made of stone. Settlement sites and some parts of human skulls were found. Evidence for hunters and collectors in this period was found in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and other parts of Germany. Neanderthals are thought to have used tools of the Mousterian class. Which were often produced using soft hammer percussion, with hammers made of materials like bones, antlers, and wood, rather ... morethan hard hammer percussion, using stone hammers. A result of this is that their bone industry was relatively simple. However, there is good evidence that they routinely constructed a variety of stone implements. NORTHERN EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description"Flat-trimmed Flake Chisel" Belonging to the Ertebølle- Ellerbek culture( Kitchen Midden Culure) 5400-4000 bc. The last Mesolithic period. Flake chisels are similar to the contemporary flake axes. But the edges are very narrow. The trimming may vary as on the axes. Occours together with flake axes. But are rather rare. Flake axes(chisels) are the earliest form of axes known from the Nordic Stone Age. First appearing during the Maglemose period. They were made from large flint flakes possessing a sharp edge which formed the cutting surface. It is likely that flake axes were hafted with the flat broad side facing upwards and the cutting edge at right angles to the handle like an adze. To begin with, flint suitable for the manufacture of such ... moreflake axes was in plentiful supply. However, flints found on the surface were often frost-damaged and so raw material for making the large flake axes soon became scarce. A new type of axe, the core axe, gradually appeared and became ever more common but flake axes, often manufactured from irregular flint fragments, persisted throughout the Maglemose(8900- 6400 bc) and Kongemose(6400- 5400 bc) periods. The last one ending in a hinge fracture(looks like a hook) below the blows is a lateral retouch, most probably to stop the burin blows. Dating: approx. 75.000 to 65.000 B.C. Isotope stage 4, the first cold maximum of the last glaciation in Europe, where climatic conditions were harsh and extremely cold. Description: Size: length 5.7 cm, weight 19 grams, Shape. Retouch: the working edge on this amazing pointed scraper has a parallel retouch from tip to proximal end. And much fine stepped edge modification. The tip has a larger cortical spot, at the left is the parallel edge flaking, at the concave right is a fine retouch. The right lateral edge of the tool is steep, with much fine stepped flaking up to the platform remnant at the proximal part of this edge(pictures 6 and 8) Raw-material: ... moreentirely creamy patinated flint, Preservation: very well: the flint is matte and of porous quality because of desilification during post deposition(very typical for the finds from La Quina) The tool has some tiny rough spots at the edges and the tip. And a small chip on the interior side at the proximal end, which in no way detract from it’s value and beauty, Additional Information. Literature: Some characteristics of the Quina Mousterian industry: only little Levallois technique was used. But Clacton flakes were preferred, no handaxes were found in the assemblages, a very high percentage of scrapers with lateral, double, convergent, transverse as most common ones, and sometimes small very thin scrapers with a very fine stepped retouch. Preferred retouch was the stepped/ or Quina retouch, made with hard strikes first which produced broad, irregular flake negatives and secondary refining retouches directly at the edges in a second step. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Upper Paleolithic/ Palaeolithic: Aurignacian. Dating: approx. 38.000 to 28.000 B.C. Description: Size: length 6.7 cm, weight 14 grams. Shape. Retouch: a gorgeous and interesting reworked burin on blade segment: first it was a burin on oblique retouched truncation. With the retouch at the left lateral edge, and the burin blows at the right one. Now, the burin also has at least 2 short burin blows at the left edge, removing part of the lateral retouch. The right edge has at least 5 burin blows, the longest one ends in a deep hinged fracture and it was stopped by the retouch(stop-notch) below.
