Exceptional Burin on Long Flint Blade, Upper Paleolithic Aurignacian 35.000 BC
Exceptional Burin on Long Flint Blade. Upper Paleolithic Aurignacian 35.000 BC Description Type: burin on break on blade. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Upper Paleolithic/ Palaeolithic: Aurignacian. Dating: approx. 38.000 to 28.000 B.C. Description: Size: length 9.0 cm, weight 29 grams, Shape. Retouch: a very interesting burin on long blade: it is made on break and has at least one short burin blow at the right edge. The shape of this burin/ working edge is exceptional. It is a Zinken/borer-like tip which is also trimmed at the distal end and on the exterior side. The proximal end is as interesting: it is also a break, the cortical area at the left edge of the interior side is removed with two burin-blow like strikes(pictures 7, 8) The edge is too blunt and thick to be used as burin, but the break looks used and we suspect that the cortex ... morewas removed because it just stood in the way for proper use of the broken end. The right lateral edge of the tool has a continuous fine retouch. Raw-material: grey-brown flint, Preservation: very well. No modern damages. Origin. Site: a site in the valley of a tributary of the Dordogne. Department Dordogne, France, first excavated in the beginning of 20th century. Main layer was Aurignacian. Mesolithic BURIN on the Proximal End of a Truncated Flint Blade UK
PLEASE read the Terms& Conditions as stated on my M E PAGE. THANKYOU. BURIN/ GRAVER on the Proximal End of a Truncated Blade Mesolithic Isle of Purbeck. Dorset. England An excellent example of a RARE type of Burin/ Graver. It is some 4.3cm long. Made on a flint blade struck from a well prepared blade core. Most burins are made on the distal end of the blade. The bulb of percussion can still be seen on the ventral surface of the blade. The blade has been truncated- purposefully shortened to facilitate use. Burins/ Gravers were important components of the Mesolithic tool kit being used to work bone& wood. Supplied labelled. UK P&P £3.50p. Airmail Europe ... more£4.25p. Airmail Rest of World £4.75p. Sent uninsured at buyers risk unless buyer asks& pays for insurance at cost. UK buyers- cheque or PO preferred. International buyers PAYPAL ONLY. fabulous and rare neanderthal large flint burin Mousterian ca. 50 000BC
The Neandertal was named after theologian Joachim Neander. Who lived nearby in Düsseldorf in the late 17th century. Neander" is a classicized form of the common German surname Neumann. In turn, Neanderthals were named after"Neander Valley" where the first Neanderthal remains were found. The term Neanderthal Man was coined in 1863 by Anglo-Irish geologist William King. From the period called"Mousterian" 150 000- 40 000 b.c. tools made of stone. Settlement sites and some parts of human skulls were found. Evidence for hunters and collectors in this period was found in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and other parts of Germany. Neanderthals are thought to have used tools of the Mousterian class. Which were often produced using soft hammer percussion, with hammers made of materials like bones, antlers, and wood, rather ... morethan hard hammer percussion, using stone hammers. A result of this is that their bone industry was relatively simple. However, there is good evidence that they routinely constructed a variety of stone implements. Neanderthal(Mousterian) tools most often consisted of sophisticated stone-flakes, task-specific hand axes, and spears. Many of these tools were very sharp. There is also good evidence that they used a lot of wood, objects which are unlikely to have been preserved until today. Disc shaped flint borers consists of a broad. Flat handle and a thin. Finely trimmed boring point. Mesolithic or Middle Stone Age is the period in human development between the end of the Palaeolithic period and the beginning of the Neolithic period. It began generally with the end of the last glacial period over 10.000 years ago, although the transition to Neolithic cultures was a gradual process; this change involved the domestication of plants and animals and the formation of settled communities at various times and places. While Mesolithic cultures lasted in Europe until almost 4000 years BC, the Neolithic communities developed in the Middle ... moreEast between 9000 and 6000 BC. Mesolithic cultures represent a wide variety of hunting, fishing, and food gathering techniques. This variety may be the result of adaptations to changed ecological and environmental conditions associated with the retreat of glaciers, the growth of forests in Europe and deserts in N Africa, and the disappearance of the large game of the Ice Age. Characteristic of the period were hunting and fishing settlements along rivers and on lake shores. Microliths, the typical stone implements of the Mesolithic period, are smaller and more delicate than those of the late Paleolithic period. Pottery and the use of the bow developed, although their presence in Mesolithic cultures may only indicate contact with early Neolithic peoples. The Maglemosian, named for a site in Denmark, is found in the Baltic region and N England. It occurs in the middle of the Mesolithic period. It is there that hafted axes, an improvement over the Paleolithic hand axe, and bone tools are found. The Ertebolle culture, also named for a site in Denmark, spans most of the late Mesolithic. Provenance is an old collection. More details will follow the artifact. I guarantee absolutely fo
12000Y.O: GREAT BURIN STONE AGE UPPER PALEOLITHIC MAGDALENIAN FLINT SILEX EUROPE
EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description European Palaeolithic Magdalenian Culture. Dating around 12000 BP. Late Upper Palaeolithic hunter-gatherer communities occupying much of northern and western Europe during the period 16000–10000 bc. The classic Magdalenian is concentrated in southern France and northern Spain. But it can also be recognized extending northwards into Britain and eastwards into the North European Plain in Germany, Poland, and as far as the Sudost River in Russia. The name is taken from the type-site rock-shelter of La Madeleine in the Dordogne Valley of southwest France. The Magdalenian stone industry is characterized by small geometrically shaped implements, especially triangles and semilunar blades, that were probably set into bone or antler handles for use, burins, scrapers, borers, ... morebacked bladelets, and shouldered and leaf-shaped projectile points. Bone was used extensively to make wedges, adzes, hammers, spear heads with link shafts, barbed points and harpoons, eyed needles, and jewellery. Their economy was based on reindeer hunting and fishing, and there is evidence of occupied caves as well as open sites. Some of the finest cave art in France and northern Spain can be attributed to these communities, as can a great many decorated bone and ivory pieces. The Magdalenian followed the Solutrean and Aurignacian and was succeeded by the simplified Azilian. Magdalenian culture disappeared as the cool. Near-glacial climate of the late Devensian Stage warmed and the animal herds the communities depended upon became scarce. This terrific flint artifact with carefully trimmed edges is 46 mms long. Wonderful patinated flint silex with fossil includings! Provenance is an old German collection. More details will follow the artifacts. I guarantee absolutely for the authenticity of this wonderful Middle European artifact. Please view also my other auctions with relics from the European Prehistory. Powered by The free listing tool.
