NEAR EAST BRONZE LURISTAN SPEARHEAD DATES TO BRONZE AGE
NEAR EAST BRONZE LURISTAN SPEARHEAD DATES TO BRONZE AGE F ine 12 inch bronze specimen of an Ancient Near Eastern cavalry spear head from the Bronze Age. BRONZE AGE: 4000- 3500 years ago STILL REMAINS VERY SHARP Nice Patina. Could be professionally cleaned The term LURISTAN references artifacts made by a society of semi-nomadic people that once lived in the mountainous region of Northwest Iran. Little is known of this ancient culture but the most impressive traces are that of the bronze artifacts they left behind that can be found in parts of present-day Turkey. Iran and Afghanistan. These include highly decorative equipment for their horses, ceremonial containers and numerous weapons ranging from simple utilitarian pieces on up to elaborate masterpieces of warfare. It is theorized that the Luristan bronzes were crafted by the earliest existence ... moreof the Median empire but this has never been proven as written records of the Medes have not survived. The Medes were Indo-Iranian people originally from central Asia who settled in Northwest Iran in the 9th century BC and later defeated the Assyrian empire in 614 BC. Their success is short-lived and their empire which once stretched from central Iran to the Persian Gulf and Anatolia was overrun in 550 BC by the Persians. Four (4) Ancient Emerald Beads, Near East, Circa 744-727 BC
Four(4) Ancient Emerald Beads. Near East, Circa 744-727 BC From finds nearby. It appears that these beads are Assyrian, probably date from one of the later kings, Tiglath-Pileser III. The beads are rectangular, somewhat pillow-shaped, with holes running lengthwise. The sizes vary somewhat, but they average 1 cm long by 0.75 cm wide. Combined weight is 1.86 grams. These would make beautiful earrings. Or you could feature them in a necklace of your own design. NOTE: This item will be shipped from France(registered mail with tracking) so please allow up to 2 weeks transit time to addresses outside France. Though packages rarely take that long.
Hacksilver (Hacksilber), Israel, Near Middle East, 3/4 shekel weight, 8.8 grams
800x600 HACKSILVER. Ancient Near Middle East, Israel. Circa 8th-6th century BCE. At 8.82 grams this was most likely used as a three-quarter shekel weight of silver. Silver was commonly used in commerce in the pre-coinage era. And was weighed on scales for purchasing purposes. Sometimes it was chopped, cut, or'hacked' to create pieces of specifically desired weight. Careful analysis of this particular specimen by the late Ken Baumheckel revealed that the person who'hacked' it to its current weight seems to have changed his mind after laying a guide for the chopping. The'hacker' made a new line as a guide. Accordingly cut into the piece a little, chopped each of the ends a bit, and then shaped the silver into two pieces- one became this piece. See the diagrams included among the pictures for this listing. I purchased ... morethis specimen from Ken's estate. Who himself purchased it from Zuzim Inc. New York. Sorry. I can ship only within the USA& Canada unless I have done business with you in the past. Please watch for several more listings over the next few days. MANY will be in auction format with low opening bids. The auction format combined with low opening bids has become less and less common due to the financial risk for small sellers such as myself who receive fewer bids. But the flip side of that'coin' is that it creates buying opportunities for bargains! Thanks for looking! Bid with confidence. As indicated by my 100% positive feedback rating. Very Large Ancient Near East Luristan Bronze Age Battle Sword - 1000 BC
An ancient Near Eastern Luristan bronze split‘ear’ pommel sword. Dating to around 1000 BC. A formidable Bronze Age sword. The long blade with a broad mid-rib. Tapering to a point, the bifurcated pommel cast onto the hilt, itself separately cast to the blade and joined with a v-shaped section. The distinctive shape of the pommel has hollow sections which would once have contained inlays of bone or wood. The pommel is also adorned with incised decoration. At first glance this impressive sword would appear to be utilitarian weapon. Designed simply for battle. But look closer and you will see that the blacksmith has taken time to inscribe various patterns across the pommel. A care and attention that suggests this was a prized object in antiquity. A fine example of an iconic Near Eastern sword type; it is hard to find a genuine example on the ... moremarket in this condition. Length: 35 inches. Condition: Excellent. Ancient Near East Bronze Age Terracotta Holy Land Pot - 3150 BC
An ancient Near Eastern Bronze Age terracotta pot. Dating to 3150– 2300 BC. The slightly upturned. Elliptical handles, plump body and short neck with everted mouth give this piece an almost figural quality that is seldom encountered with vessels of the period. The vessel has a flat base and wide body and would have been used for storing water or oil in ancient times. The pleasing effect of the contrast between red and black on the surface is in fact the result of mis-firing in antiquity. Though no doubt the ancient potter would have preferred this piece to be more uniform. To us it seems to enhance the object. Height: 7 7/8 inches. Condition: Good. Huge Ancient Near East Luristan Bronze Age Battle Sword - 1000 BC
A magnificent example of Bronze Age weaponry: An extremely large. Genuine and powerful ancient Near Eastern bronze sword, dating to around 1000 BC. A formidable weapon. The long blade with a broad mid-rib, tapering to a point, the pommel cast together with the hilt, itself separately cast to the blade. This striking artefact was produced by the expert bronze working society known to us as the Luristans. And would have originally formed part of the burial contents of an elite Persian warrior. These individuals often served as mercenaries in the service of rulers in the lowlands of Mesopotamia. The ancient inhabitants of mountainous Luristan were pastoralists and would have followed an annual cycle of migration between their warm low-lying winter pastures and the high cooler summer grazing grounds. Their production of these remarkable bronze ... moreartefacts for which ancient Luristan society is primarily known took place largely during the winter months. When the low lying valleys were packed with their tented encampments. The Assyrian king Sennacherib's account of a campaign in Luristan territory vividly illustrates how the land would have been full of these temporary settlements during an age redolent with violent conflict: And their settlements which were numberless. I destroyed, I devastated, I turned to ash. The houses of the steppe, namely their tents, wherein they dwelt, I set on fire. A fine example of an iconic Near Eastern sword type; it is hard to find a genuine example on the market in this condition. Length: 33 inches. Condition: Generally good. Blade reattached to hilt as is invariably the case with artefacts of this type, and with associated restoration at the join. Exhibiting a beautiful dark olive patina. Provenance: Ex. Ancient Near East Holy Land Bronze Age Terracotta Pottery Jug - 3150 BC
An ancient Near Eastern Bronze Age pottery jug. Dating to 3150– 2300 BC. With its elegant carinated form. Rustic appearance and encrusted surface, this jug appears quintessentially ancient. Potted from a light clay, the body piriform, with a large handle reaching down from the rim to the mid-section. This evocative object dates to a period where the foundations of human civilisation were only just beginning to emerge. A time from the unimaginably distant past. Used for the pouring of water and perhaps wine, the handle fits so naturally into the hand that we can feel a moment of connection with this lost, formative period. It brings the everyday life of real people inhabiting the ancient Near East a little sharper into focus. Height: 8 inches. Condition: Very good. With restoration to section of lip and neck.
