Wonderful figural piece of an Arab warrior on his rearing horse. Probably inspired by Lawrence of Arabia. This is a single bookend but serves beautifully ... moreas a stand-alone art object. Designed by listed artist Paul Herzel. His name formed into the top of the base. Bronze clad. A manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze was made to adhere to a plaster form through the process of electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900's to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze pieces yet still were affordable by the middle class. One of those companies was Pompeian Bronze. Operating in NYC in the 1920's. An original label still is affixed to the bottom. Condition is excellent in terms of structure: no breaks in the cladding. No mashed corners on the base, no delicate elements of the design bent or cracked. More often than not, this piece is found with some damage to the rifle- BUT NONE HERE: it is not bent; no cracking in the cladding where his hand grasps the rifle; no cracking in the cladding where the rifle butt rests on his thigh. Paint is original. Does show chipping and wear in places, but mostly intact. The piece sits flat and stable. This is big: 11 ⅛ inches tall to the tip of the rifle; base is 6 ¼ X 2 ⅞. And heavy at just shy of 3 ¾ pounds. US shipping only. USPS parcel post with insurance. I pack with care and do not profit from S&H. I SPECIALIZE IN ANTIQUE BOOKENDS AND DECORATIVE OBJECTS. Antique German shepherd dog art statue Pompeian Bronze, Paul Herzel, mint, huge
Absolutely stunning decorative statue of a standing male Shepherd. Alert as they always are. Details are incredible. No surprise when the artist is Paul Herzel, name clearly incised on the top of the base. Herzel did numerous figures of people but is more celebrated for his life-like depictions of animals, and German Shepherds seem to have been a favorite subject: there are at least two sets of bookends with Herzel shepherds, one with the dog standing as in my piece; the other, with the dog sitting down. The name Dolf also is incised in the top of the base- I don't know who that is. This was electro-formed(more commonly known as bronze-clad) A manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze(sometimes copper) was made to adhere to a plaster figure by the chemical process of electro-plating. In my last photo, you can see the indentations ... moreon the bottom, the"wicks" where metal loops were embedded, those loops used for suspending the piece in a vat of electro-plating solution. The hooks later would be cut off. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900's to produce decorative household objects which had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze pieces but still were affordable by the middle class. One of those companies was Pompeian Bronze of NYC. No maker's mark on this piece. But it was Pompeian who created the bookends mentioned above as well as many other Herzel designs(I have 5 or 6 sets of bookends signed Herzel, all made by Pompeian Bronze) Circa early 1920's. Condition is nearly perfect. No breaks in the cladding. No scratches, one ear(his left one) has a gentle nick/dent; a few tiny flea-bite nicks here and there; and one base corner gently pushed in(front right) Finish is original, shows some wear appropriate to age, but even that is minimal. And it is huge: 14 inches tall. To the tip of his ear; base is 11 1/2 inches X 4 inches. And heavy at 12 pounds. Perfect gift for the Herzel collector or the dog lover. I simply do not believe you EVER will encounter this piece ag

Antique fruit bowl Pompeian Bronze, 1920s, orig. paint, 10 inches across, 5 tall
Wonderful old bowl in lovely colors. While my pictures look mostly alike. Please believe me that they show the bowl from 8 different side views. Bronze-clad(or electro-formed) A manufacturing process that made a skin of bronze adhere to a plaster form through electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900's to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze pieces yet still were affordable by the middle class. One of those companies was Pompeian Bronze. Operating in NYC in the early'20s. Their name and stock number are formed in the bottom. I have an original Pompeian Bronze catalogue which includes a price list, and this item( 802) appears therein under category Fruit Bowl and the decorative design is called, Empire. $18 was the wholesale price back then. Condition is ... moreexcellent: no breaks in the cladding. Just wear to the finish, mostly on the interior of the bowl. Paint is original and almost entirely intact, some spots of verdigris evident. A big piece: 10 inches across; 5 inches tall. US shipping only. USPS standard with insurance. I pack with care. Do not charge for materials, and do not profit from S&H. I SPECIALIZE IN ANTIQUE BOOKENDS AND DECORATIVE OBJECTS. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR INTERESTING AND UNUSUAL ITEMS.
Antique Pompeian Bronze Bookends Angels Mary Easter Art Deco
This is a gorgeous pair of Pompeian Bronze Bookends. The Pompeian Bronze company was based in Brooklyn. NY and made bronze clad bookends, lamps and more. The company was in business until I believe around 1930. This particular pair of bookends has what I believe is called a polychrome finish. There is a sticker on the felt covered bottom of the bookends that reads: Made By Master Craftsmen Pompeian Bronze. Stickers are red and gold They stand approximately 5 and 1/2 inches tall and are about 5 inches wide. They depict what I believe to be a religious scene but being that their are 3 faces on the bookends I am unsure if they are supposed to be Mary and Baby Jesus as I do not know whom the cherubic 3rd face would belong to. I did research the pair but came up empty when trying to find this exact pair. It appears that above the"Mary" ... moreand the third person that there are halos above their heads and a cross in the background on the right hand side. I have not cleaned or polished these so they are in the original condition I acquired them in and they do have some wear/damage as seen in the photos. It would appear that this was most likely caused from either books rubbing against the clad bronze or from them being stacked. They weigh about 1 pound 11 oz's each. These are lovely pieces.
ASIAN STUDENTS antique art deco bookends GALVANO BRONZE armor pompeian marion
This is a lovely pair of rare bookends featuring an Asian boy and girl. Both bookends have the backplates formed as books. The girl is sitting against the book holding a book she is reading on her bent knees. The boy is kneeling. Has his elbows resting on the backplate with his head in his hands daydreaming. A wonderful old, original set. Each bookend stands 5 3/8" tall(4 3/8" for the girl) 3 1/4" long, 2 1/2" wide and weighs almost 2 lbs. 4 lbs. for the pair) They are in good condition with some finish loss and dings. They show beautifully. This set is more commonly seen in a cast metal, the bronze-clad version is very rare to find. These antique bookends were made using the much coveted and highly collectible bronze-clad method of production which utilized electricity via an electrode built into the plaster mold of the ... moresubject piece. There was a lot of preparation work involved. Bronze was then electroformed onto the plaster mold. This was extremely innovative in the early 1900’s. Unfortunately, it was also very costly for labor and materials. Some bookends could take as long as three days to be completed. Almost all of the companies went bankrupt. However, they created some of the most detailed and sought after bookends we have today. They're getting quite scarce to find in good condition since they are somewhat fragile.

1920's Pompeian Bronze Classic Art Deco Sculptural Nude Man & Woman book ends
This is very Rare pair of bookends made by Galvano and Paul Mori. They are from the early 1920's and were designed by Gorham Bronze with Cleo Bracken as the artist. One can find a very similar pair in Kuritzky's Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends that is made by Pompeian Bronze. Even that pair is listed as extremely rare and remains amongst some of the most valuable sets. The bookends are very much Art Nouveau in style and are exceptional true works of art. Each piece is tall and slender. Featuring nude male and female counterparts sitting like gods on their tall obelisk-like thrones. The details are still sharp and crisp; even the facial features and curls of hair are easily discernible and quite attractive. You will find this pair to be in extremely good condition. The bronze is deep and rich and shows very minor signs of ... morewear and age. These stand so tall at 10" 2 ½" Wide, and 2 ¼" Deep and weigh 3 lbs each. Felt is on each bottom.

Rare antique "The Juggler" art statue by Pompeian Bronze + listed artist Colinet
Absolutely charming statue of a nude girl. On tiptoe, balancing balls in each hand and one free foot. Modeled after the early 1900's statue"The Juggler" by Claire Colinet. The piece is electro-formed(more commonly known as bronze-clad) A manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze is made to adhere to a plaster form thru the chemical process of electro-plating. You can see in the bottom the metal hook that was used to suspend the piece in a vat of some solution. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900's to produce decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze pieces but still were affordable by the middle class. One of those companies was Pompeian Bronze. Which operated in NYC in late 19-teens, early'20s. The piece does not bear a maker's mark but I have an original ... morePompeian Bronze catalogue and this piece is included. Actually, Pompeian Bronze used the design as the decorative element on a variety of products: a set of bookends, a bud vase, and 2 different-sized"Art Objects" Pompeian's term for stand-alone statues. Mine is the smaller of the statues at 8 1/2 inches tall; the larger was 20 inches tall. Also fun is Pompeian's price list: the smaller statue wholesaled for $7; the larger, $45. Condition is excellent. No breaks in the cladding, no mashed parts, no bent or cracked limbs- remarkable that such delicate structures have remained undamaged all this time. A minor dent in the side of the base and a bit of a wrinkle in the cladding at the supporting foot as well as at her neck. You will have wrinkles, too, when you are 90 years old. Finish is original, a few spots of verdigris and flea-bite nicks, otherwise is in wonderful shape. The piece sits flat and steady. A lovely. Thoughtful gift to adorn the desk or mantel of a loved one. US shipping only. USPS priority mail. Insurance and delivery confirmation. If you live close enough that parcel post would be cheaper, I will do that. I pack with care and do not profit

Roaring 20's flapper girl dresser coin jewelry tray Pompeian Bronze, orig. paint
Absolutely wonderful decorative tray adorned with a lovely young flapper girl of the Roaring'20s. Looks like she is standing in a breeze as her scarf and skirt are blowing to the side. And she is holding objects in her hands: maybe she is applying makeup. With a lipstick and compact or mirror; or perhaps she is a reporter, pen and notepad at the ready to jot down the facts of a fast-breaking story. The design of the base may be a clue- looks like it has a spine, which a book or notebook does have, but I suppose a compact does, too. Whichever, she is charming! Not sure of the original purpose of this piece. Possibly ashtray though it doesn't have any rests in the design of the bowl, and certainly no evidence that it ever was used for that purpose. I am inclined to think it was for desk or dresser top, to hold coins, jewelry, paperclips. ... moreThe fun part is that you get to use it any way you wish. Made by Pompeian Bronze. Their name clearly incised on the back. Circa 1920's. This is an electro-formed piece(more commonly known as bronze-clad) a manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze(sometimes copper) was made to adhere to a plaster figure by the process of electro-plating. It was used by a handful of companies in the early 1900's to produce decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze yet were affordable by the middle class. Pompeian Bronze was one of the more distinguished(my opinion) of those companies. You can feel in the bottom an indentation, representing the"wick" where the piece was hung upside down in a vat of electro-plating solution. Condition is superb! No damage whatsoever to any of the structural elements. No breaks in the cladding, no mashed corners, nothing dented or creased. Paint all is original and while clearly there has been fading, chipping and wear, that paint largely remains intact and vibrant. The red and green colors are hallmarks of Pompeian pieces. This is a big piece. Standing 8 inches tall; 6 inches wide; and 4 1/4 inches d

Pirate Circa 1923 Bronze Clad Bookends Pompeian Bronze Co.
Pirate Bronze Clad 10” Tall Marked Pompeian Bronze Co. Based in Brooklyn New York. The Pompeian Bronze Company produced bookends in bronze-clad and in spelter, as well as lamps, ashtrays, and more. In 1921 alone, Peter Manfredi, of Pompeian Bronze, registered 27 designs of bookends and lamps with the US Library of Congress Copyright Office, including some of the finest designs ever created. But PB too was gone by sometime around 1930. Some reports suggest that the company, upon dissolution, sold its plaster molds and plating tanks to Marion Bronze there is no clear cut evidence to support this but it would explain why a number of later-produced bookends by Marion Bronze are nearly identical to earlier Pompeian designs. BOOKENDS POMPEIAN BRONZE CLAD ELEPHANTS RARE HONEY COLORED MATCHED SET
Check out my other items! Auction Description: Armor Bronze-National Metalizing Co. 1914-1948“Trumpeting Elephants” Circa: 1925 Guaranteed to be old and all original Armor Bronze Co in the early bronze clad weighted production process. These have a wonderful dark honey bronze patina finish in very high detail. These have not been listed in any price guide as of this date and would be considered extremely rare and especially considering their natural and wonderful aged condition. Armor Bronze collectors will absolutely love this very difficult set to find. This is one of the earlier and unique Armor sets of a standing bull elephant. The elephant is in the trunks up full trumpeting position for mate calling or possibly his warning stance. It is said the trunks up position represents“good luck” This set is very good to excellent condition. Condition ... moreof finish is near perfect with no major damage to any parts. On the lower circular front base there is a very slight flat bump below the elephants left rear leg and is so slight it is not that noticeable. Both ends retain old felt coverings but possibly not original since the color is black. They do lack the original foil stickers making me think they are replacements. Since I have had this set with original stickers. I do know them to be Armor Bronze. There was another very similar set produced by Armor Bronze with the exact same stance but on a rectangular base. This set is on a semicircular base with a nice smooth graduated concave style. This set is only the second set I have obtained in this style or seen in over 45 years of collecting and selling bookends. Notice: I was contacted by a Ebayer who said this set was made by Pompeian but offered no proof and this set is very smooth which is more characteristic to Armor versus Pompeian clad metal is usually more textured simply because Pompeian artists obviously took more time adding details to each subject. Since foil stickers like Armor used as well as Pompeian there is always the possibility they were Pompeian bu
