We are pleased to offer this wonderful. Old, antique pair of candlesticks. This petite pair dates to the 19th century. They are a beautiful representation of French ormolu. They are Rococo in style and feature very detailed and ornate design. The pair are gilt bronze which has a nice thickness. They have beautiful bases with"plant stem" center columns. The stems lead to a large opened bloom that rests under the three, ascending height candle holders. The candle holders have very detailed leaves and vines that seem to wrap around them. There are two large flowers on the top sections; one faces front, the other faces the back. The candle wax drip cups are also in the form of multi petaled flowers. The pair is very ornate and extremely detailed. They are quite old and they take a smaller circumference taper candle as traditional tapers ... moreare too large to fit into the cups. The pair have screw thread that holds the cups in place and that runs down the center column. The pair are in very good condition for their age. There is some aging to the gilted patina but the pair still retain the gilted appearance. Each candelabra measures 13" tall. The bases are 4.5" wide and the top sections measure 9.5" wide. Middle Ages to the 20 th century. Exceeds that of any other country. Nearly all of the motifs of this fine pair are typically Empire(1800-1815) But they date from the Restauration/Charles X period. From a technical point of view. This formal pair is interesting, because they mark a transitional period, using earlier techniques- lathed feet, and extensive, hand-incised details- with post-1820 central iron shafts(which do, however, exhibit quite a bit of hand-work) These thin iron rods were only in use for a short period– by the mid-19 th century. French artisans had undoubtedly become aware of how fragile this type of construction was, and switched to a more massive rod stock. Beware

It is hard to find great candlesticks like these in pairs and even harder to find them complete including the removable Bobochet. These candlesticks are made as a pair- as shown. They are marked number"1" and"2" The bases are sand cast and turned and decorated, and the stems are seamed and heavy cast in two pieces. The candlesticks measure 6 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches across the base. They are in great as-found condition. I have not polished these but I did gently remove some wax. Under the wax is some green staining that I do not believe is a light surface discoloration and can easily be cleaned off if desired. After about 1700. The evolution of forms in French Louis 14 th(1660-1715) and R é gence(1700-1730) period candlesticks became at once rapid and well-established. Bolstered by the tremendous growth of the middle class- pairs prior to 1725 become increasingly harder to find. This particularly handsome design of candlestick is very much of the Louis 14 th/R é gence period– the turnings are simultaneously robust and complicated. And yet the massive aspect of the candle socket looks back to the 17 th century. They are not seamed. Which also argues for an earlier than later date- closer to 1700- and bear a few traces of having been gilded.

They measure 12 1/2" tall and are in the Louis XVI style. Featuring lovely stiff leaves, beaded columns, and acanthus leaf scrolled feet. They are in as-found condition with a wonderful verdigris patina and what appears to be the remains of the original tag. There are a few spots where the original golden finish is showing, so these should polish up beautifully if desired. They are a unique tripod design that screws apart at the lower center, and have a hollow tube running from top to bottom that would make conversion to electric lamps easy. Pr 18th or 19th C French pewter candlesticks, no reserve *
Offered here without reserve is this pair of French pewter candlesticks that date either to the 18th or 19th C- both bear a touchmark as shown in my 3rd picture. But it is too indistinct for me to make out the maker aside from noting the French in the mark. Both stand 7" high with a 5 1/8" diameter base(and take a 1 1/4" diam. candle) And both are weighted(each weights appx 1 1/2 lbs) which leads me to suspect that they may have been for use on a ship. One stick is in poerfect condition whereas the other, I suspect has seen some repair. Compare pictures 4 and 9- the two undersides- and note the excess solder to the second. Also, this second stick has what appears to be some small solder drips or corrosion points as shown in my 8th picture(as well as some roughage around the mouth(see picture 7) so its evident that the second ... morestick has seen a bit more abuse than its mate. The sticks are 13" high and the base is a hair short of 5 inches in diameter and the catch ring at the top is a hair less than 4 inches. Modelled as devilish little musicians playing fireplace tools as though they were instruments: one figure playing a griddle like a guitar, the other playing tongs and a shovel like a violin(a bellows in his waist band) The figures standing atop circular mound plinths, their heads forming the candle cups(one with original cover/cap) Not visibly marked, the surfaces with original polychrome painted finish. Perhaps depicting characters from a children's book. The maker has not been identified; however, a similar pair was sold at Christies in 2009 for just over $800. Old Napoleonic Gilt Bronze French Cherub Candlesticks Presented is an old pair of gilt bronze candlesticks made in France during the first quarter of the 1800s. Probably during the period of Napoleon. Each stem is in the form of a putti or cherub boy standing on a pedestal, holding the bobeche or sockle for the candle. The figure is beautifully crafted and there is fabulous detail to the designs engraved along both pieces. The border of the base is engraved with a lovely, repeated line and circle pattern. These candlesticks have been electrified and one of them has to be re-wired. There are solder marks on the putti's backs, but this is because loops were soldered there to hide and secure the wires. The heat from the soldering has caused some loss to the gilding on ... morethe cherub figures. Since these candlesticks disassemble into six pieces each, it would be quite possible to easily regild the cherubs These candlesticks are in good condition. Especially considering their approximately 200 years of age. The gilding has some minor imperfections other than the cherub. A hole has been drilled in the top sockle and to the wax drip underneath to accommodate the electrical wire. Good overall condition from a true pair of French Regency candlesticks.
