One foot forward and hip to the side. His hands are comfortably rested on the handle of his hay fork as he peers off into the distance. He is dressed for work- barefooted, shirtless, wearing a rimmed hat, with his pants rolled up and a canteen hanging from his sash. This is a high quality statue with detail down to his toenails and a flower on the ground near his foot. The statue has developed a nice patina over the years. There is a stamp on the side. The nuts underneath the statue are very old. The statue is marked CH. LEVY. The stamp on the side reads"bronze garanti au titre" and"L.V. ... moredeposee" Next to the number 5 5876. Possibly made to be used as an ashtray as a cigarette will fit perfectly in the baskets with the bar holding it in. Approx. measurements are 7" tall by 7 1/4" wide. Basket to basket. Great preowned condition with some minor age appropriate wear. There is some light sand like material in the recessed areas. Possibly an early sand cast piece? No chips. Cracks or repairs. Sunning herself for a few moments before slipping back into the water. She sits perched on a rock, rubbing her hands over her smooth legs, toes on the edge of the water. She seems to be deep into thought about a long lost love that broke her heart and left her all alone. She seems upset but yet very caught up in her own beauty and all her good qualities. This brown patina has hints of green in it and it was cast using the"lost wax method. She is mounted on a black marble ... morebase and is signed Jean Patoue. The Art of Lost Wax. Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold. First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive. Once the molds are done. Up for auction is a beautiful antique 19th century French bronze ormolu cherub mounted to a marble base. This would have probably gone onto a lamp base or casket box. There are two exposed screws on the bottom of the marble. Very fine. Exquisite detail, down to the individual feathers and floral headband. Winged cupid is playing an aulos. In very good condition with one half of the double pipe is missing, looks like a stress fracture to the wing which does not appear to go all the way around, repair to the marble on the back side. Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. ... moreAlthough mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold. First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive. Once the molds are done. The insides are coated with layers of wax. The halves are then bound together and wax poured inside to complete the wax image being created. Once the wax has cooled. The mold is peeled away, yielding a wax image(the wax positive" duplicating the original sculpture. This image must then be"touched-up" to remove any seam lines. This is a stunningly rare antique late 18th century solid bronze detailed cherub figural French sculpture. The figure is made from solid bronze. Has nice weight to it, and has acquired a lovely patina from age. it is done with an abundance of intricate lifelike detailing and is a wonderful depiction of a young male cherub. he is depicted standing nude holding onto a branch wrapped in flowers. they are mounted to a circular base which also has nice detailing. it is in nice condition measuring 5 1/4 inches tall by 1 3/4 inches wide. very rare bronze. For sale from the estate of a family member is this stunning pair of 19th Century French bronzes representing the Greek God Apollo and Goddess of the Hearth Hestia. This bronze pair are spectacular. Impressive pieces for home or office. No noted condition problems. Beautiful patina and artist detail that delights the eye. Their faces convey actual emotion(if you know the story behind these two) They stand approx. 17 inches high and the plinth(base) has a diameter of approx. 6 inches. These were appraised as being from the 19th Century and cast in France. No signature or foundry mark has been found but the basalt plinths are one indicator of their origin and age. Our home is very contemporary is design and furnishing and these really don't fit as such. So this pair of wonderful bronzes needs a new home where they will be admired and appreciated, ... moreperhaps by a collector of fine bronzes. Antique FRENCH Bronze BULL MASTIFF BULLDOG Statue Dog Sculpture LECOURTIER
I have a wonderful Bronze dog sculpture signed LECOURTIER. Prosper Lecourtier(1855-1924) was born in France and is best known for his sculpture of dogs. Although his work encompasses all forms of animals. I have seen similar sculptures by Lecourtier which refer to this breed of dog as either a Bull Mastiff or Bulldog. I feel that this is most probably a BULL MASTIFF. I have not found another example of this particular sculpture, which represents a dog in a playful stance with his ball. Therefore I believe this piece is not only impressive but rare. It measures 5 1/2 inches long, 2 3/4 inches wide and 4 1/4 inches tall at the tallest part. This piece is in excellent condition other than a small dent along the base which does not detract from its overall appearance. The bronze appears to be in original condition.
