FRANZ BERGMANN Large Enamel Plate Signed Titled California artist 50s
This piece is in excellent condition. It is 9 inches in diameter. Franz Walter Bergmann was born on August 6. 1898, in Dimling, Austria, a town northwest of Vienna. His parents were both involved in the arts: his mother was a pianist, and his father was an amateur artist and a violinist. After serving in World War I for three years, he enrolled in the National Academy of Art in Vienna and embarked on a seven-year course of study, focusing on figure painting and portraiture. Although schooled in the academic tradition, Bergmann also adopted elements derived from the more avant-garde German Expressionist style. By 1924 he was exhibiting in Vienna and Stockholm. The following year, he graduated with honors. He left Vienna to tour Europe. And in early 1926 he traveled to the United States. After a brief stay in New York, he moved to Chicago, ... morewhere he obtained a commission to paint murals for theaters owned by Balaban& Katz. That year his mural sketches were exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago. He then moved to New York, where he joined the staff of the noted Austrian architect and designer Josef Urban. His main duties involved the execution of several murals. He also exhibited in the Architects League in 1927. In 1929 Bergmann decided to move to San Francisco. On his way to the West Coast. The artist spent several weeks in Denver, where he painted the scenic Rocky Mountains. Once in San Francisco, Frank Bergman, as he was known by then, began exhibiting at various galleries, and the critics took favorable notice of him. He also completed murals for the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. The success of these murals led to numerous commissions executed throughout the city. The most prestigious for Bergmann’s reputation were the murals he painted for the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939. By the end of the decade, Bergmann was among the most celebrated modernist figurative painters working in Northern California. Besides being a painter and a muralist, he also illustrated children’s books, including This Way

Antique Austrian Bronze Owl by Franz Bergmann, Vienna, jewelry box, door stop
Fabulous antique Franz Bergmann bronze of an owl resting on the book. Book opens into a jewelry box. This piece dates to early 20th century. Owl has beautiful dirty gold patina. On top of the brown book and fabulous glass eyes. Bronze Size- Height 10.5in. Base is 6in long by 4.5in wide. It is heavy- around 4.3kg(9.5lbs) It is marked Geschutzt on the bottom of the book as shown in one of the photos. It means patented in Austrian- mark common to many Bergman bronzes. I sold an owl just like this one last year that had BERG written in same location as Geschutzt. Berg is another common mark used by early bronzes- you can see a bronze dog inkwell in another listing of mine with this mark. If you have any questions. Please do not hesitate to contact me. Franz Xaver Bergmann(1861–1936) ... morewas the owner of a Viennese foundry who produced numerous patinated and cold-painted bronze Oriental. Erotic and animal figures, the latter often humanized or whimsical, humorous objects d'art. Noted for his detailed and colorful work, and signing either a'B' in an urn-shaped cartouche or'Nam Greb' Bergman' in reverse. These marks were used to disguise his identity on erotic works. His father Franz Bergmann was a professional chaser from Gablonz/Bohemia who came to Vienna and founded a small bronze factory in 1860. His son Franz Xaver Bergmann(1861– 1936) inherited the company and opened a new foundry in 1900. Many of the bronzes from the 1900s were still based on designs from his fathers workshop. He was not a sculptor himself as often described wrongfully. There were many anonymous sculptors. Hired temporarily by the workshops. At the turn of the 19th/20th Century there were about fifty workshops producing Vienna Bronzes. Cold painted bronze' refers to pieces cast in Vienna and then decorated in several layers with so called dust paint; the know-how for the mix of this kind of paint has been lost. ANTIQUE FRANZ BERGMANN AUSTRIAN VIENNA BRONZE ART DECO SCULPTURE EXOTIC FIGURE
Antique Franz Bergmann Bronze Figure Description and Item Information Up for sale. With no reserve, is this antique Vienna bronze sculpture by Franz Bergmann. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This large, figural piece stands approximately 9 5/8 inches tall. It is about 6 1/4 inches long by 4 inches wide. Unpacked, it weighs a little over 5 pounds. This sculpture depicts a woman dressed in exotic garb, with her arms outstretched. She is walking down stairs, with a railing behind. It is possibly a depiction of Salome. This would be a rare addition to a collection of vintage European art metal. Identification Beneath the base of this sculpture is the mark of Franz Bergmann(aka Franz Bergman) An urn-shaped mark with a B. It is also marked, GESCH 6429. Franz Xaver Bergmann(1861- 1936) owned a Viennese foundry which produced bronze sculptures. ... moreThis piece is antique or vintage, but I do not know exactly when it was produced. Condition The sculpture displays well overall. As shown. It has light wear. There are a few missing/ broken off pieces of the twisted wire fringe that hang from the lady's sash; for a handy person, these would probably not be too difficult to replace. At the back of her head is a tiny, neat hole(which appears original) and I do not know if another piece was supposed to be affixed here or not. The color is more uniformly gold than I would expect of an antique bronze sculpture, and thus it may have been overcoated/ painted gold at some point. Please review the photos, and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing. Note Regarding Best Offers We welcome all offers on our"Buy It Now with Best Offer" listings. Franz Bergmann Vienna Austria 3 DACHSHUND in BASKET Bronze Dog Version 2 BROWN
Original Franz Bergmann Wiener Bronze: 3 Dachshund in Basket- Version with 1 Black/ 2 Brown We are offering this original Vienna Bronze(Wiener Bronze) Handmade in Vienna by the Franz Bergmann- Fuhrmann Company. The object bears the typical Bergmann"B enclosed in a jug" mark. This item is 33mm tall and 37mm wide(to the tip of the nose) As these figurines are still manufactured and painted by hand, small variations in detail or color, to the pictured object, are normal. Each item will be delivered in a velvet pouch together with a certificate by the manufacturer. The certificate will be signed and numbered and guarantees you that you received an original Bergmann figurine. About the production of these miniatures- the"Lost Wax Method" The actual material of the object is Brass. I think these figurines were called"Vienna ... moreBronze" because Brass was not that well known as Bronze. Achieving such a high level of detail on a rather small figurine requires a very complex and time intensive production process: Usually it starts with a rubber mould. Liquid Brass would destory the rubber and for this reason the figurine is in the first step casted out of wax. The wax figurine is used to prepare a negative made of some kind of plaster or clay: In a very special technique one or more wax figurines get placed inside a container. All that is covered with plaster or clay. The mould is dried and fired. This way the clay is getting hard while the wax is melting. A hollow space is created- the negative. This negative gets filled with liquid Brass. When the Brass is cooled down. It gets hard. The plaster around the brass core can be broken off and the figurines made of Brass are the desired result. These figurines will be cut off, their whole surface gets engraved by hammer and punch, and finally the items get marked with the traditional"Jug" mark and painted in a costly and detailled manner. Please see my other listings as I offer many beautiful miniatures and talismans! Order as many pieces as

Large Original Antique Signed Franz Bergmann Lamp - Native American War Dance
Large Original Antique Franz Bergmann Lamp- Native American War Dance Large Original Antique Franz Bergmann Lamp- Native American War Dance Offered here is a very rare original Franz Bergmann bronze lamp. Titled for reference"Native American War Dance" Two large male figures dance around an illuminated bonfire. The piece is approximately 9 inches high, 13 inches wide, and 6 inches front to back. It is one of the most thoroughly marked Bergmanns you will ever see: each figure is marked with"GESCHUTZ" and the model number; both figure's shields are also marked with the Bergmann logo and"GESCHUTZ" The bonfire is a wonderful example of the Bergmann foundry talent. The woodpile is too complicated to cast in one piece. It appears that the inner framework was cast then about 100 branches and twigs were separately ... morecast and brazed or soldered together and individually painted. The figures are wonderfully realized- their movement realistically captured. It's remarkable work. The wiring has been redone: old tape has been removed and the wiring reconnected with wire nuts; the old frayed cord has been replaced with new fabric covered lamp cord which duplicates the original. The whole sculpture is in excellent antique condition. Ready to display. This is one of the rarest Bergmann pieces I've encountered: in over 60 years of collecting, I've seen one such piece and this is that piece. It's not pictured in any of the bronze references we have, and we have most of them. I've also reviewed over 1000 Bergmann auction records and not seen it. We are starting at a reasonable price for a Bergmann lamp of this quality and rarity. With the option for offers. Please wait for the invoice; Ebay's shipping calculations don't include insurance. Returns are accepted only in case of misrepresentation but our guarantee of authenticity is without time limit. We're not offering to ship internationally because of insurance limits.
