Very nice. Old antique cast iron doorstop! This gorgeous piece is probably Hubley. It features a beautiful English Bulldog or Boston Terrier which was mounted(years ago) on a thick wood back and base. It is in very good, antique condition with some expected age spots to the cast iron. There is still a nice finish to the dog and the wood base is very nice with wonderful aging characteristics. This is a unique piece as you don't find them mounted very often. The wood dimesions are 17" wide and 10.5" tall and is 4" from front to back. The dog measures 9" tall and is 8" wide. Do to his age(I mean we are talking about 560 in dog years! he has a few blemishes mainly around his paws and his white'fur' is more of an off white hue. He does appear to have been lovingly'groomed' by his previous owner. I believe they painted some of his black. Probably where the color came off a long time ago. Some of the black areas have more of a sheen than others. This is noticeable if you really look him over. He is a hefty fellow. He is in pretty good shape and has light paint chipping around his face otherwise the paint is in pretty good shape. He measures 10 inches tall by 8 inches long and 3 inches wide in no means a small piece. He is also a really heavy weighing just over 8 pounds and would make a great doorstop. Otherwise I don't know to much about him. One thing though this isn't something you are going to find at a local walmart. So don't miss out!

Vtg Cast Iron Hubley Boston Terrier Dog Right Facing Doorstop Nice Appearance
You're bidding on a nice vintage cast iron doorstop figural Boston Terrier- This is a known Hubley design. Although from what I can tell they were never marked so authenticating them can be difficult. The things he has going for him in terms of authenticity, to me, are that he is heavy- nearly 8 lbs- so no skimpage on metal, the two screws on the back are flatheads and not more modern screw types, and he does show paint overlap suggesting that he was airbrushed, although his collar looks as though it might be handpainted. He retains most of his paint, but does have some rust around the feet and some wear of the black paint along his sides that gives him a little bit of antique charm, in my opinion. Boston Terrier, Cast Iron Doorstop, Hubley? Vintage, Unique!
Yes there are over 200 Boston Terrier doorstops on eBay. But this one seems a bit different. First, I am no expert, just cleaning out a deceased relatives things. He is in the style of the famous Hubley terriers, perhaps he is a Hubley, but unlike all others on eBay, he has an open belly cavity, as shown in the photos. Two flathead screws with what appears to be original grout. Paint is chipped as one would expect for a vintage working doorstop, but his joints are super tight and he is a solid-feeling handsome fellow. Markings are realistic for the breed and he has a lovely expression. This has been in use in our family well before the 1950s, please give him a good home. All original paint, but I don't believe the collar is original although it is very old! The collar is very brittle and worn. His perky little ears and face are painted black and his red tongue is sticking out of his mouth. His red collar reads"Fido. He is made from 2 cast molds#1083/ 1084 pieces that are held together with a screw. He measures at approx. 5" tall x 4" wide x 4" deep. This still bank has antiquated wear, and as you can see it has paint wear and some oxidation that has stained the paint. However, this cute little puppy needs a good home! The body is not Cast Iron like most dogs and is fairly light weight to be a Doorstop. The casting is still nice with ribs and leg muscles showing and the old paint also displays well. I have heard that these dogs were not cast from iron to make them cheaper for the Carnival Prize Industry and also because of the War. I'd love any additional information that you may have. ANTIQUE EARLY 1900's CAST IRON BOSTON TERRIER DOG DOORSTOP HUBLEY? SHIPS FREE!
ANTIQUE LATE 1890'S TO EARLY 1900'S CAST IRON BOSTON TERRIER DOG DOORSTOP POSSIBLE HUBLEY? This cute Boston Terrier cast iron door stop belonged to my Grandmother. In researching this door stop. I believe it is made by Hubley, but I can't be sure. There seems to be traces of a number on the underside of the dog. Also. From my research, I found that the early Hubley terrier had very noticeable ribs and slightly rounded bottoms on the feet, as this one has. I found it in my parents basement in the mid 1970's and have kept it ever since. When I found it and asked my dad about it. He said the door stop belonged to his mother. And she had it since before he was born. He was born in 1911. The original screw is in place. There are no chips or cracks. There are traces of paint. But I don't know if the paint is original. The terrier ... moreis quite hefty at 5 lbs. 12 oz. on my postage scale. He measures approximately 9" long x 9.75" tall. The width of his stance on his front feet is 3.75" The width of the body at the widest part and across the chest is approximately 2.75" Please feel free to email me with questions.
