RARE DECO EARLY 1900'S GALVANO BRONZE CLAD MORI COWPUNCHER COWBOY HORSE BOOKENDS
From my personal collection. This is only the second time I have ever seen this set in my many years of collecting. Ultra-rare and are not listed in any leading bookend. Reference books. These are definitely a very early. Paul Mori( Galvano Bronze)set. Before the employees of Paul Mori purchased the company and changed the name to Pompeian Bronze. You can see this by their size because in the early 1900's books and bookends were much smaller. There is also a similar set that is larger and in the same style called" Ridin High" circa 1925. Pompeian did not take over the company until 1920. This set dates from 1905 to 1915. Bronze clad was a very expensive and time consuming process. It required special attention to the amounts of electrical current used and the composition of the plating solution. The molds were first put in hot ... moreparaffin or carnuba wax and left to harden. It was then sprayed with an electrically conductive coating. The piece was then held by a wick and dipped into the plating solution. The mold could stay from just a few hours to a few days. After complete the finishes would vary by subject and then would be sealed with lacquer. The term" Cowpuncher" was first used in 1878 before the common term now days of Cowboy. The word actually had its origin in the days when the railroads started to haul cows from the Plains to the cities of the Midwest and East. A fellow who helped push the cattle onto rail cars by poking them with a long stick.Giving rise to the expression Cowpoke in1881 and Cowprodder. The Cowboy used a prod to keep the cows standing during the railroad journey so that they wouldn’t get trampled. The bookends show the Cowpuncher A.K.A. cowboy sitting atop his trusty horse. The cowboy keeps an eye out across the plains looking after the cows that are shown in the background. The details are really nice and I love the finish. A deep. Dark bronze with faux, verdigris of green highlights throughout. The bookends measure 4 3/4" tall by 4 1/2" wide and weigh 2.12
BEAUTIFUL ART DECO MARION BRONZE 1920'S BRONZE CLAD WORKING DOG CANINE BOOKENDS
These beauties are made by Marion Bronze. Circa 1920. They would have had a label and I have owned this set once before with the label marked"Marion Bronze Metuchen N.J" This has also been confirmed on Chuck Decosta's website" Antique Bookend Collection" Bronze clad was a very expensive and time consuming process. It required special attention to the amounts of electrical current used and the composition of the plating solution. The molds were first put in hot paraffin or carnuba wax and left to harden. It was then sprayed with an electrically conductive coating. The piece was then held by a wick and dipped into the plating solution. The mold could stay from just a few hours to a few days. After complete the finishes would vary by subject and then would be sealed with lacquer. The bookends depict what I think is a ... moreGiant Schnauzer with it's pointed ears. Beard and short, cropped tail. Who knows the artist at Marion Bronze might have even replicated his own dog to live on for generations to come. They are titled"Man's Best Friend" in the leading reference book" Encyclopedia of Bookends" by Kurizky and Decosta. This is a really powerful looking dog. The Giant Schnauzer is in the working group of the AKC. The dog does looks very alert and ready for the hunt. He is anatomically correct male as you can see in the pictures. Each one measures 5 1/4" tall by 7" and weighs 4.8 pounds for the pair unpacked. They are in great condition! Just a little discoloration on the back of one. One tiny rub on the base, and on the same bookend, the ear has been bumped and the clad has buckled a little because of that. It was not broken off and the crack does not go all the way around. These are priced to sell! Free shipping and insurance( don't worry I pack well: to USA only excluding Alaska or Hawaii. International please write for shipping rates. Payment due within 3 days. Any questions just ask. I thank you for your interest and for stopping by!

End of the Trail" After the James Earle Fraser 1915 life-size sculpture of a sorrowful Native American Indian on horseback, made circa 1928 by the Galvano Bronze Company, a pair of vintage electroformed bronze-clad figural bookends, beautiful dark-chocolate patina, this has not been cleaned, great patina still intact. Extremely Rare Early Bronze Clad Matched Bookends Auction Description: National Metalizing Co/Armor Bronze Mfg 1914-1948"The Flight" 1918 This wonderful Native American set is guaranteed to be one of earliest and oldest of all known original National Metalizing Co. sets and better known later as the Armor Bronze Manufacturing Co. This set is the perfect example of early L-Shaped bronze clad issue. These have a wonderful and near pristine bronze clad finish with aged verdigris and bold chocolate patina. This set has not been listed in any price guide as of this date and would be considered extremely rare and especially considering their wonderful near flawless condition. I would venture to say this set was produced very close to. But earlier than“The Harpist” which was one of the earliest signed issues with ... morethe Armor Bronze name and date. Only a few productions by National Metalizing were signed and none that I have ever seen in my 45 years of collecting had the foil type label displayed later by Armor Bronze. Armor Bronze collectors will absolutely love this adorable set. Description: This bronze clad set depicts an American Indian Brave more than likely ready to mount his horse in readiness to take flight from either battle or some type of immediate danger. Some have summorized this set has a depiction of the overall"Flight" or movement of the American Indian away from the influx of foreign immigrants who were taking over the Indians home lands. The set was titled by the artist as“The Flight” so it is obvious the brave is fleeing from some type of danger. This L-shaped is very simplistic on the back side but very ornate on the fronts. The top is adorned with ribbon like scrolling leading down to the title box containing the words“The Flight” The bareback horse is rearing and contained by the Indian holding the reins in his left hand and full length spear in his right. The base appears to place the horse and rider on flat rocks or flagstone base which may indicate the

Pirate with Sword/Very Nice circa 1928 Bronze Clad Armor Bronze Antique Bookends
See my Store for many more antique bookends in nice condition! You are bidding on a set of polychrome bronze clad antique bookends that depict a pirate holding a sword and leaning against a tree trunk. They were manufactured circa 1928 by Armor Bronze with their name on the rear(seen in photos) The base measures 4.25 x 3.5-inches in size. And it stands 10.5-inches in height, which is extremely tall for most bookends. One bookend weighs 42.6 ounces and the other one weighs 38 ounces. See photos for more details. These bookends are in very good condition. There are no cracks or chips in the metal surfaces. There is a bump to the rim of the hat on each bookend. Some waves in the swords, and the felt pad on the bottom is nearly wore off on one bookend. The painted surfaces have a few areas where the paint has been rubbed off. I'd estimate ... moreabout a 5% loss and it is therefore not readily noticeable. The painting is unusual in that the gold paint from the torso area appears as runs on the pants in a couple of areas, but may have been part of the design. A nice set showing only a few blemishes. Pirate Circa 1923 Bronze Clad Bookends Pompeian Bronze Co.
Pirate Bronze Clad 10” Tall Marked Pompeian Bronze Co. Based in Brooklyn New York. The Pompeian Bronze Company produced bookends in bronze-clad and in spelter, as well as lamps, ashtrays, and more. In 1921 alone, Peter Manfredi, of Pompeian Bronze, registered 27 designs of bookends and lamps with the US Library of Congress Copyright Office, including some of the finest designs ever created. But PB too was gone by sometime around 1930. Some reports suggest that the company, upon dissolution, sold its plaster molds and plating tanks to Marion Bronze there is no clear cut evidence to support this but it would explain why a number of later-produced bookends by Marion Bronze are nearly identical to earlier Pompeian designs. BOOKENDS ARMOR BRONZE CLAD FISHERMAN SALVATORE MORANI EXCELLENT
Check. AUCTION DESCRIPTION: ARMOR BRONZE 1917-1929“Fisherman” aka“Trawler Man” This set of matched bookends depicts an old time fisherman or many times called a trawler man. The trawler name came from a type of boat used to fish in lakes and the ocean. They used different types of nets for catching different types of fish. Some nets allowed the fish to swim through them just far enough to be caught by the gill flaps and stopped the fish from backing out of the net. The net shown with this fisherman appears to have been a drift type net for it has floats attached to the nets. The float were attached to the top of the nets and allowed the net to stay on the surface and hang down. Many times the net was drug through the water with two boats attached to each end and the fish were caught just under the surface. The hard part about this type net ... morefishing was once the nets were full of fish the fishermen had to pull the nets in by hand and it was a very hard job in deed. The person with this all day job was sometimes described as a toiler simply because it took tremendous strength to pull in a net full of fish. This fisherman wears the typical seafaring hat seen by many working men who were on boats of any kind. The wide brimmed hat kept the pouring and splashing water out of their faces as they worked on the ship and boat decks. This fisherman displays a hardened body of strength and a very determined and strained facial expression. This set is a true natural honey bronze colored(NOT PAINTED) clad set in absolutely wonderful original condition with deep aged patina in the fisherman’s net crevices and other deep non wear areas. There is no damage. No breakage, or clad separation from the inner mold and the wire wicks were shown before I put on a new set of original green colored bottom felts. This is one of the larger sets designed by Salvatore Morani and is a part of several sets depicting laborious men of different trades. Morani designed for several companies including Armor Bronze Foundry by whom this set was pro
BOOKENDS ARMOR BRONZE CLAD PUPPY DOG ORIGINAL DARK CHOCOLATE COLOR RARE PAIR
Check out my other items! AUCTION DESCRIPTION: Armor Bronze-National Metalizing Co. 1917-1948“Snuggling Puppies” Circa: 1918-20 Guaranteed to be one of the oldest and all original Armor Bronze Production’s in the early bronze clad issue. These have a wonderful chocolate bronze finish with aged and bold patina. This set has not been listed in any price guide as of this date and would be considered extremely rare and especially considering their wonderful near flawless condition. Armor Bronze collectors will absolutely love this adorable set. This set’s theme is two small puppies cuddled together with one resting his head on the others hip while the other is resting his or her head on the rib area. The breed appears to be English or Irish setter or possibly another type hunting dog. It would also be my guess that they are resting on a very ... morelarge canine pad of the time or possibly just a cloth pallet of hay. The bottom of the base is sculpted with an ornate design leading me to believe it is a very large canine bedding pad. They are both signed in the earliest Armor Bronze shield and script of Armor Bronze Co. and copyright sign which also indicates the earliest of Armor productions. Note: Since very early bookends were made for smaller books of the times many people have found they can use bookends for numerous other jobs. I have used this set for simply paper weights. Specifications: Height: 4.50” Depth: 4.25” the pair, Width: 5.15, Condition: This set is in excellent to near mint condition. Cladding is completely tight to under mold. There are no felt coverings and the bottom cladding is tight with original raked lines on one and the other is smooth with wire wick ends present. This set is the only set I have ever owned or seen in my 43 years of collecting and selling bookends and I have contacted several of the oldest collectors I have corresponded with over the years and it is the only pair they have ever seen. So I would venture to say this is one of the rarest sets Armor produced. PLEASE OBSERVE ALL PICT

If you are a Armor Bronze bookend collector this is a must opportunity to buy one of the nicest sets available. The Flying Dutchman is a legendary" ghost ship" that can never make port and is doomed to sail the oceans forever. The myth is likely to have originated from 17th-century nautical folklore. The oldest extant version dates to the late 18th century. Sightings in the 19th and 20th centuries reported the ship to be ... moreglowing with ghostly light. If hailed by another ship. The crew of the Flying Dutchman will try to send messages to land. Or to people long dead. In ocean lore, the sight of this phantom ship is a portent( something that foreshadows a coming event of doom. See Wikipedia“The Flying Dutchman. Antique Kathodian Bronz Works Cherub Child Art Deco Bronze Clad Bookends STAMPED
The rare Art Deco bronze spelter(bronze clad) bookends are a perfect example of the early beginnings of the Art Deco movement. Each piece has sharp. Clean, and intricately detailed lines. The craftsmanship of the child's expression and form is impeccably lifelike and angelic. The patina of the bookends is in excellent pre-owned condition with only a minor chip to one of the pieces. The bookends are stamped on the back with the Art Bronz/KBW insignia. Based on our research, they date back to 1910-1916. They have a total weight of 7 pounds and each piece is approximately 7"H x 4 1/2" W. Manufacturer History Kathodian Bronze Works(KBW) began marketing fine metalware products under the trade name. Art Bronz, around 1910. A print advertisement from 1914 lists their retail store at 501 Fifth Avenue, New York City and advertised their ... moreproducts as"the standard of perfection" The bookends were marketed as"book rocks" during this time. Art Bronz was a short-lived company due to a stock manipulation scheme led by C.W. Bergman& Co. KBW filed for bankruptcy in 1918. vintage bronze clad ashtray, Setter, dog, circa 1930s, matching bookends
Prior to 1914 just about all high-end sculptural artwork was solid bronze. About that time a company called Kathodian Bronze Works began manufacturing small sculptural artwork such as bookends(back then they were called“book rocks” and statuary using a process imported from Europe around the turn of the century known as electroplating or electroforming. About the same time a company called National Metalizing Company also began making this statuary. Calling the finish"Armor Bronze" After WWI the assets of this Armor Bronze division were spun off as a new entity- The Armor Bronze Company of New York City. A third high-end bronze clad manufacturer called their finish“Galvano Bronze” a term coined by and Italian emigrant in New York named Mori. The name was in honor honor of Luigi Galvini. A noted Italian for whom the term“galvanized” ... moreis named. By the end of the Roaring Twenties manufactures such as Pompeian Bronze. Galvano Bronze and Kathodian Bronze were gone. The Great Depression swallowed-up most of the“bronze clad” artisans– as the process was deemed to be too expensive and time consuming. Armor Bronze and Marion Bronze were the only two makers left after 1930. Offered here is a very uncommon bronze clad ashtray with the elusive glass insert. It is in great condition. And I have the matching bronze clad bookends that goes with it- they will be listed separately. Bronze clad no breaks in the cladding- often the metal under the glass insert is damaged but not the case with this one. Patina is great This coin/ashtray and/or the bookend set is rarely seen. See photos for condition. Original felt I have included two photos of the matching bookends and a smaller Armor Bronze bookend of the same design. Note the difference is sizes of the bases. I am going to speculate that this is by Marion Bronze. I have seen similar presentations of the name(on the base) on other Marion Bronze sets Circa post-1930 The coin tray is about 5-1/2 inches tall and 8-1/2 inches deep. The diameter of the tray is a bit more
