Old French Antique Catholic Saint John Vianney Curé d'Ars / St. Philomena Medal
This is an antique St. John Vianney/ St. Philomena medal. I believe it likely dates from before 1925(the year of St. John Vianney's canonization) since the medal does not read" St. John Vianney. Just"J.B.M. Vianney. This may even pre-date his Beatification in 1905, since the prefix"Bl. is not found. In any event, it is extremely old. French text on both sides. Overall, the medal is in fair condition for its age in my opinion. The medal measures approximately 3/4 of an inch in height.

This is a beautiful medal and in great condition. In medieval times people made pilgrimages to Rome and these medals with cross arms are typical of Pilgrims medals from around 1500-1600. They are very rare to find with all the arms and bale intact. It has deep almost black patina. The Crucifixion with St. John and Mary and on the other side the Virgin in Heaven. Pictured here is a beautiful old First Class relic of Saint John Bosco- it is encased inside a small silver pendant with a decorative frame. There is a loop at the top of the piece. Under the convex plastic covering reveals the beautiful relic. It reads Ex Joannes Bosco. We have not attempted to open this as there may be a wax seal from the Vatican inside. It is more than likely that its there. But we will leave that up to the new owner to open. This piece measures a little over 1" in diameter. With St John The Divine with an Eagle head above him and his wings spread around him. This measures 3/4" across and weigh 3.6 grams. This is a very nice ca. 1720(most likely cast at his beatification or canonisation in 1716) bronze medal depicting St. John Francis Regis the founder of the Confraternity of The Blessed Sacrement. Another famous Jesuit saint of the late middle ages. This medal is an original of the time with a nice almost black patina to the bronze and despite the age the figures still in high relief and defined on the other side is'Regina. The Mother and Child maybe queen of Heaven. With Roma underneath. St. FRAN can be made out on the front. It depicts the saint as an old man with cape and staff and the beard he was known for.
