In addition, this one is a French Louis XVI piece. This is the year when the French decided to take on the British. When the Americans won the battle of Saratoga in 1777, French became gung-ho and joined the American cause. This one is struck in brass amd measures 39mm. A beautiful and RARE Belgian medal! It is an ORIGINAL strike honoring the soldiers. Particularly those from Belgium, who had fallen in battle during the early years of WWI. The medal is dated 1914-1915-1916, is solid bronze SILVERED and is graded XF to AU. To get a detailed review of the condition of this medal please see the Condition Description and the photos. The medal measures 63mm tall(center bottom to top) and just under 75mm wide; a large and beautifully moving medal. Straub and Sohn and"Ritter and Co. merged to form'Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik' Later in 1883 glassworks were built on the Geislingen factory site. To enable the company to produce its own glass inserts for tea glasses, vases and table-centre pieces. In 1890 WMF tookover Galvanoplastischen Kunstanstalt(Galvanoplasty Art Institute) in Munich, the production facilities of which were moved to Geislingen in 1894 and stayed there until 1950.
