Lovely vintage silvered St Christopher Art Deco Catholic French medal car travel
A beautiful vintage silvered Art Deco medal of St Christopher. 6-sided, with a 1930s car on the reverse. This is a lovely medal featuring Saint Christopher. The patron saint of travellers, on one side, carrying the infant Jesus across the water, with the sun's rays pictured behind them in typical Art Deco style. On the reverse is a 1930s car travelling through mountains. Both sides exquisitely designed to a very high quality. It is possible that this is silver, as there is a mark on the bail, but I am not sure what this is, so I am listing it as a silver plated medal. Size is 15mm across, just over 1/2 inch) and 1.80 gm in weight. There is a jump ring in the bail, and the whole medal is in excellent condition. Great portrayal of a popular saint.

A nice vintage Lourdes medal. With inscriptions in the local Bigourdan dialect and in German, probably from the Art Deco era. The pendant. Which measures 2.2 cm high including bail and 1.3 cm across(7/8th ins high x half an inch wide) weighs 2.8 gm. On the obverse, under the portrait of St Bernadette in the grotto and the Virgin, is the inscription in the local Bigourdan dialect that Bernadette spoke"Que soy era immaculada councepciou" I am the immaculate conception. Vintage Virgin Mary pendant/medal. This looks like sterling but is not marked as such anywhere that I can find. It is very vibrant with an Art Deco look. It measures approx. 3/4" not including the jump ring at the top but does include the bail. The back looks as if either there were enamel that over ran or there was enamel that wore off. Tiny vintage blue Art Deco St Joan of Arc medal by Lavrillier; a souvenir from her birthplace. Marked FRANCE. This is a little blue faux enamel medal. In a fluted setting, probably made for Saint Joan's canonisation in 1920. The portrait of St Joan is the well-known one by Gaston Lavrillier. Gaston Albert Lavrillier. A famous French medallist, born c.1885 and died 1958) and at the base of the insert are the dates 1412(Joan’s birth) 1429(her death) and 1920(her canonisation. Around the portrait are the words“Ste Jeanne d’Arc PPN” St Joan of Arc pray for us” and the medal is marked FRANCE on the bail. On the reverse are the words“Souvenir de Domremy” Joan’s birthplace) This little medal. Which is in the Art Deco style, is only 1.3 cm high(half an inch) and weighs 1 gm including the jump ring. This portrait presents the Virgin Mary in profile in an Art Deco design. There appears to be something engraved on the lower edge. This medal is in good condition. The one problem with this piece is that a small hole was drilled near the top to make it a pendant. It also has a few scratches on the back. It measures 2-1/2 inches x 1-5/8 inches. Vintage Catholic Art Deco Modern Style Medal with Mary and Jesus(Made in SPAIN) This medal is quite large. I photographed both sides so that you can see the detail. It measures almost 1 1/4" tall. It has quite a heavy weight. And shows 8.2 grams. It has a silver finish which is somewhat discolored due to age. I think that it would clean up nicely, but I have left it as it is. The front image shows the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus and the back has a small modern art style image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This is a Art Deco 1930's to 1940's sterling silver. St. Christopher's Medal. It has a makers mark. Or hallmark of R.F.S. Co. aka R.F. Simmons. The front. Featuring St. Christopher shows some wear. The back featuring a steamship. Train, automobile, blimp and plane just a little ware as it is slightly concave. So avoided rubbing to some extent. Weight on my scale is 6.75 grams. 13/16" round. Some history of the company: R.F. Simmons Company. Attleboro, MA. Founded in 1873 by Robert Fitz Simmons, a chaser who conducted a small shop. Simmons struck up a friendship with Joseph Lyman Sweet who used to drive grain from the Sweet farm in West Mansfield to Attleboro's town sales near Simmons' shop. Simmons would tease Sweet about being a"rube" and from this banter grew a warm friendship which led Simmons to invite ... morethe younger man to learn the jewelry business. In 1875 Sweet. Simmons and Edgar L. Hixon formed a partnership each investing $2,500 in the new business.
