VERY ELEGANT VICTORIAN BRASS STANDARD OIL LAMP WITH HINKS' DUPLEX NO 2 BURNER
This is a truly lovely eyecatching oil lamp. The Hinks' Duplex system 2 functions perfectly. When I bought it was set up with the wick but I have never used it. The chimney is a replacement it has Griffin brand and marked foreign on it. The lampshade I am told was original but I dont know its certainly from the right era. I bought this about 15 years from an Antique Shop. I have loved it dearly but I am downsizing and changing styles so there is now no place for it. This item will go by courier or can be collected. Rare Antique 1880s Aesthetic Anglo Japanese Satsuma Oil Lamp Hinks Duplex Burner
Th is uncommonly seen lamp stands 12"H to the top of the burner and 6 1/4W across the bottom. The 4" shade holder has a very slight bend. The lamp appears to be fairly complete and needs restored. The pottery is not chipped or cracked anywhere. Feel free to ask any questions.

A superb antique Hinks's No2 Duplex oil lamp burner. Dating from the late 19th century. The rise and fall burner has a bayonet type fitting and a ceramic end to the winder which reads"Hinks's No2 Duplex. Benetfink& Co" Benetfink& Co were a large retailer in London from 1845 to 1907. There is a small split to the chimney holder. See photo, otherwise all in good working antique condition. This superb burner made by the famous Hinks company would look great on any antique oil lamp. The baluster stem is made from dark amethyst glass. Although only the strongest of lights can penetrate it(you can see the L.E.D. of an iPhone light through it in a dark room, basically it shows as black in general use, it would have had gold trim but his is worn showing only the gummed-lines where it was originally stuck, project? A what I believe to be Victorian oil lamp. It stands 23" 59cm) and is in good condition for its age. I think the main body is cast. not magnetic) is without damage, and on the inside of the base raised is 1831. The glass font is good with no damage. The burner has Hinks and sons on the side and there is 1 chimney finger missing. Both wicks will rise and fall, and one of the ceramic inserts has the writing worn. The lamp is of the style often called a sideboard lamp. Usually squat lamps with a low centre of gravity, likely the height of the sideboard negates the need for a column. Lamp is unmarked apart from a model number on one of the feet(see image) I have seen this model before several times and they were both stamped with the'Taylor, Tunnicliffe& Cº' lozenge. Dimensions; lamp stands 17" tall to the top of the chimney and is around 7" across the base. Condition; good condition for age(c1880-1890) Some crazing but luckily mostly out of sight(underside of bowl near feet and inside the bowl, mostly never seen areas) burner could do with a clean but appears to be in working order, one retaining nut on the leg of the burner missing, surprised one remains as they are usually both gone) absolutely no restoration! An antique Hinks oil lamp burner. It is a twin wick operated on one winder. On the ceramic disc is Hinks Duplex patent. On the bridge is Hinks& Son patent. This is a bayonet type. And a sealing cork washer is in place. All of the chimney fingers are in place, and there is no damage, but may have the odd mark. I have dismantled, cleaned, polished, lubricated, and reassembled, so now is very shinny and can be taken apart with ease. Just wicks required and away you go. I can supply used wicks if required. These flat founts were typically made in this exact pattern by Taylor Tunnicliffe. Although this one is not marked underneath. This one has the usual creamy coloured'body' though the decoration is much darker than they usually are. They were made to fit into a four footed'pot' see last picture) that is often mistaken for a pot-pourri when found without its lamp fount. The fount is NOT supposed to match the base in pattern. They are always different. This one has had a chip repaired to the very edge. Hardly shows but can be felt. 5&1/2 inches diameter overall. James Hinks & Son Original Duplex Twin Wick Oil Lamp Burner
Here is another beauty from what little remains from my collection of oil lamps and burners from the best and most famous manufacturers in the world. This one and a similar I have been hanging on to till the last minute I will be very sorry to see go. I have kept them for years in the hope of finding a lamp of similar age and quality to put them on. but that never happened and sadly now they must go. This is a superb James Hinks& Son original duplex twin wick oil lamp burner made in his factory near the centre of Birmingham UK whilst Queen Victoria was the reigning monarch. You’ll note there are actually two wick winder shafts. This burner was the original. And made first before the now famous single shaft with another running through its hollow length which was instantly always recognised as a Hinks. In 1865 James Hinks placed two flat ... more1-1/16 inch wicks together and invented the duplex oil lamp burner in the form seen in the photos of this beautiful burner. So started the era of duplex burners which since then virtually every oil lamp manufacturer copied in one form or another. I’ve never yet been able to find the exact date when manufacture of this type was superseded by the better know form(perhaps someone reading this may be able to enlighten me) but I’d guess somewhere around the late 1870s so this burner could be anything from 135 to 149 years old. and is still in perfect working order! No built in obsolescence those days. The brass is of a thicker gauge than more recent burners. The wicks slide up and down their channels easily and the moving parts work absolutely perfectly. All the vents and bug filter are clean and there are two new wicks fitted so the burner is set to fire up right away. The burner has. Of course, the typical bayonet fitting which most Hinks duplex used and what could well be the original cork gasket is still in place in good condition. Up for auction is this full size REPRINT of an original Hinks Oil Lamp catalogue. Circa 1900-1905. Printed double sided, full size, on A4 size paper, with card covers and neatly spiral bound. Ok. It is a reprint, but the originals make up to £900, so it is the cheapest way to get hold of useful reference material. Not actually dated. But it has a lamp which refers to Baden-Powell's actions at Mafeking, so post 1900, likely pre 1905. 120 pages including the covers. The original catalogue had lost a page or two and had sections cut out of some other pages. Of course, this would devalue an original, but the copy is still a great reference volume. The original masters for this were made some 20 years ago and the original has been lost since. So copy quality is not as crisp as it might be if scanned from the original today. The fount is faceted crystal. The base has an embossed brass skirt and glazed terracotta plinth. The chimney is an original Hinks stamped example. A rare survivor. In the form of a large Doulton urn decorated with applied mouldings on a brass tripod base. The oil reservoir being glass and fitted securely to the Doulton cover. Again with applied mouldings. A Hinks& Son burner with the novel"key" function that raises the gallery in order to light it without having to remove th chimney. Double burner and Duplex 2 winder. Glass chimney and etched shade. It has not been cleaned and I think the floral pattern will come up beautiful done by an experience restorer. The only other similar that I have seen is in the York Railway Museum.
