RARE 19th C. WILLIAM RIDGWAY & CO YELLOW WARE HOUND HANDLE JUG YELLOWARE SIGNED
RARE 19th C. WILLIAM RIDGWAY& CO YELLOW WARE HOUND HANDLE JUG YELLOWARE SIGNED, A rare yellow ware hound handle relief molded hunt jug with mastiffs at the kill of a wild boar on one side and a male Lion attacking a stag on the other. Signed with a rare partial pad mark on the base. England. William Ridgway& Co. Staffordshire ca 1830-1854 This is an early Staffordshire relief molded hunt jug with a yelloware body. This is a rare example in that it is marked with an applied pad mark on the base. The padmark has partially broken off. And it took me a while to figure whose mark it was. I found the mark in"English China and its Marks" by Thomas H. Ormsbee. The mark is in an octagon frame with an anchor and urn. It has W R& Co in a banner below the anchor. The jug is also marked with an impressed asterisk or flower and the ... morenumber 9. The jug measures 6 1/8" high at the tip of the spout and 7" at the top of the hound handle. It is 4 1/2" across the base. The exterior has a matte satiny sheen. While the inside has a clear shiny glaze. The relief decoration is crisp and spectacular. Condition The hound handle has been repaired at the top where the paws meet the rim and near the bottom terminal at the haunches and tail. These repairs must have been done by an amateur. And they could definitely be improved by a professional restorer. Guaranteed authentic, this is truly a rare Ridgway jug and it will enhance any collection of yellowware, or hunt jugs. Reasonable offers will be considered. Payment and Shipping PayPal payments are welcomed. Buyer pays calculated shipping via USPS parcel post or priority mail With the exception of Sundays and holidays. I ship within 24-48 hours after PayPal payment confirmation. L79 RARE ENGLISH MID 1800s YELLOW WARE FINELY ENAMELED, GLOSSED MATRON TOBY JUG
LOT# 79 Detailed Photos. Click to enlarge. Estate Road Show. Item Description. We are very proud to present this spectacular 1820s to 1840s original English yellow ware richly enameled and glazed rear handle matron with both hands in her pockets Toby jug. We have looked& looked. But cannot find an exact match after over 1,000 images studied! We do know that the facial characteristics and flat eccentric hand finished base, as well as the period Rockingham deep brown style glaze, all indicate the pre to early Victorian period. Another dating fact is that the early 1780s to ca. 1800 examples in Cream, Pearl& Prattware(William Pratt) plus pieces by such English giants as Ralph& Enoch Wood, Thomas Hollins, as well as the famed potters Astbury, and Wheildon, working primarily in Staffordshire& Leeds, virtually all produced Tobys ... morewith square or rectangular base plinths. Our Rare Toby is obviously a flush bottom, but definitely predates the English renaissance of precise enamel decoration, beginning in the late 1840s. Later producers of Tobys such as Davenport, and of course Doulton, showcase much finer painted definition and mold characteristics, traditionally found on 1870s + examples. We are very grateful to the American Toby Jug Museum, for its fine concise history below. Toby Jugs have been around since the early 18th century. The creator of the first Toby Jug is unknown, but most attribute it to either John Astbury or Thomas Wheildon. While the origin of its moniker is unclear, it is widely believed it was named after Toby Fillpot, an infamous sot in a song called â¿The Brown Jug⿝ that was popular in England in the late 1700s and illustrated with a mezzotint of a fat toper with a jug in hand and the verse beneath. Whoever the creator, the Toby Jug caught the fancy of late 18th century England, with early jugs by such well known potters as Ralph Wood I and II, Enoch Wood, Thomas Hollins and William Pratt, as well as the aforementioned Astbury and Wheildon, working in Staffordshi
Rare Antique Dome Top I Think Red Wing?? Hand Painted Yellow Ware Jug
Very Rare Antique I think Red Wing Pottery Dome Top Hand Painted"Little Brown Jug" only it's not brown or Little. The Handle looks to be applied. It has no cracks. Or repairs. It does hae a few chips at the mouth of the jug. on the back base& bottom pictured. And, the paint on the flower is crackling and delicate(must be handled with care) also pictured. I think this jug is ca. 1890s- 1940s give or take, but I'm not 100% sure? The shoulder of the vessel is domed. The jug's 7 1/2" tall again I think it's a one gallon jug. It's beautiful and a very rare find! All my prices are negotiable, so don't hesitate to make an offer! There are no Reasonable offers refused! ATLANTIC MOLD BASKET WEAVE WISKEY JUG YELLOW WARE ANTIQUE VINTAGE OLD HANDLE
This is a wonderful jug. Looks like a wiskey jug, weaved pattern look, this is from the Atlantic Mold company, on the bottom it is roughly signed by Goode and numbered 2940, I can only assume this was the person that perhaps glazed it? I have looked it over really well, I cannot see any chips, no cracks, no hairline fractures, nothing, this appears perfect, other than the felt on the bottom is a bit worn, that's it! Some may call this Yellow ware? Not sure, the color is some where between yellow, orangy and tanish brownish? Nice weave! LOL) This stands aprox. 9 1/2" tall and is aprox. 4 1/2" wide. Please be sure to check out my other auctions. antique wiskey crock jug, yellow ware, from around 1930's, 40's. good condition
This is a Vintage Yellow Ware Crock Whiskey Jug. I believe that this is from around the Ohio Valley and is quite old. Maybe from the 1930's to the 40's. It has 2 chips, one on the outside of the spout and one on the top rim where the dome starts. No cracks, and no crazing. The chips do not cause any problems. The size is about 1 Qt. 6 1/2" tall, about 5" diameter and the inside dim of the spout is about 7/8" I have made no attempt to clean it up as the patina adds to the character of it. Just think, if this thing could talk, an old drinker pulling this over his shoulder with his finger thru the finger hole and pouring a guzzle of moon shine down. Ya never know. Hi bid pays for item and S&H. I accept paypal. Credit card. Each item ships with delivery confirmation, a tracking# and each ships within 24 hrs, of confirmation ... moreof pmt. Thanks for looking and please look at my other items. I offer all money refunded. Antique STONEWARE BROWN-GLAZED YELLOW WARE Mixing Bowl
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This antique stoneware mixing bowl has had a lot of use– it is old! There are chips around the rim of the collar. And a chip on the bottom of the bowl. Please look at photos. The inside is in good shape but with pock marks where it appears age has worn away the top of a bubble. Also note the uneven brown glaze on one side. Shown in one photo. There is no marking on the bottom of the bowl but a series of concentric rings impressed on the inside of the bottom may give a clue as to origin. Wonderful for display. Bowl is 4 ¼” high and 8” in diameter. BEFORE YOU BID please look carefully at my pictures as this is the exact item you will receive. A lthough I strive for 100% customer satisfaction.
