Vintage Stoneware Crock Jug - 2 Tone Brown/Tan & Off White
Vintage stoneware crock jug. The jug is a 2 tone brown/tan and off white. The jug is approximately 11" tall and 6 1/2" in diameter(measured on bottom) tape measure shown in photos as well. The jug is not perfect and does have some wear but just adds to the character of the piece. I tried to capture all main wear in the attached photos. There are some chips along bottom edge. An area of crazing on one side, a couple stoneware imperfections on one side in the brown area(doesn't look to be chips- looks to be be from when made) I have found no cracks. It is very old and most likely predates 1964 because it is stamped"Federal Law Forbids Sale or Re-use of this bottle" which was required on bottles after prohibition and until the law requiring the notice was repealed in 1964. There is crazing but. In my opinion, it gives the jug some personality. There is the tiniest rough spot around the mouth and bottom of the jug. I show several photos of the mouth and bottom. 1 gallon dug up vintage brown over tan moonshine jug
This is the type I usually find. Not always so solid not always handled this one is both. Classic brown over tan with two fingered handle. Without writing or embellishments of any kind. Just the good old shine crock/jug. Probably around eighty to one hundred years old. Sturdy and versatile. Dug one up 6 months ago has linseed oil maybe in it. Couldn't bring it home because the stench of the oil. Still sits out in the woods where my pit is. And still sometimes when I walk by it the fumes are overwhelming. This is an unusual whiskey/moonshine jug with the wire and wood handle. It is about 9 1/2" to top of jug and is almost 7" across the bottom. This is an old jug and the wire handles are bent. The chip on the top is just glaze deep and the one on the bottom is not bad. Considering the life these had it is a wonder they survived. Not sure how much it holds. Maybe 2 gals or less. There are no markings on this jug. There is a chip on the bottom and on the neck. Near the handle, see photos. The fourth photo shows a closeup of the top rim which may appear as a chip, however, after close examination, this defect was made in the making of this jug. Stands 9 1/2" tall. The diameter is 5 1/2" across the bottom. There is crazing under the glaze on the bottom portion and a number of poc marks, very crudely made.

This is a sturdy(and heavy) old whiskey jug by Robinson Clay Products Co. Of Akron Ohio. It measures approximately 12" in height and the base is approximately 6 1/2" in diameter. Little Brown Jug Stoneware Shoulder Jug with Finger-Handle Two-Tone Brown(Tan and Dark Brown) Marked USA T his listing is for a very folks stoneware jug marked with an incised USA mark. In a two-tone brown glaze. There is an applied neck and handle with room for one finger. The jug measures 6.75 inches high at the top of the handle, 1-1/8 inches wide across the neck, and 4.25 inches wide across the footring. The jug is in very good condition. There is a small indented spot on the front of the rim lip. But it is under the glaze and original to manufacture. There are also a couple of pinpoint-size glaze pops, also original to firing. There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. The only mark I can find is an incised. Underglaze mark for"USA. The"S" is a bit larger than the U and A, which sometimes indicates a piece made by Brush Pottery.
