This highly collectible jug is fully marked on the underside and is in excellent condition with no damage. Measures 8 inches to the top of its handle. The Royal Doulton Company began as a partnership between John Doulton, Martha Jones, and John Watts, with a factory at Vauxhall Walk, Lambeth, London. The business specialized in making stoneware articles, including decorative bottles and salt glazed sewer pipes. The company took the name Doulton in 1853. By 1871, Henry Doulton, John's son, launched a studio at the Lambeth pottery, and offered work to designers and artists from the ... morenearby Lambeth School of Art. There is a small 1cm underglaze line on the inside base of the jug- this appears to be a firing flaw created during manufacture- it is not a crack. The Falconer, from the Williamsburg Collection. The Falconer wears a sporting cap of turquoise and white and black stripes. His fur collar tops a back cloak. The handle on the left side is a stand on which rests the falcon, grey feathers on top and a white breast. His right wing extends over the Falconer’s cap. It is in EXCELLENT condition! There are no chips, cracks or crazing. It has the Royal Doutlon Mark on the bottom with four registration numbers. Falconry is a tool for hunting dated back for centuries dated from the Chinese[2000 BC] The Falconer removes a young falcon and trains to fly when release from his wrist killing the quarry but leaving it untouched. In England, Henry VIII found it a favorite pastime. The Falconers modeler was Max Henk and it was produced by Royal Doulton from 1960 through 1991. It measures approximately 4" high. Offered in ... morethis sale is an antique two tone glazed Royal Doulton stoneware jug with hunt and taverns scene and a windmill. It has an impressed Royal Doulton crown and lion mark on the underside of the base along with the number 2165(2nd image) It measures roughly 6 3/8" tall x 6 1/2" wide at its widest. The condition is very good. It has one pencil point glaze flake on the side edge of the handle and a small glaze flake on the raised edge of the leaf on the back beneath the handle(see 7th image) Otherwise. There are no other chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines or restoration. A nice early jug. Be sure to enlarge and zoom each image for a close up view of the detail and condition. FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS THIS ROYAL DOULTON LAMBETH STONEWARE WHISKEY JUG. THE JUG MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 7 INCHES TALL BY 5 3/4 IN DIAMETER AND. FROM MY RESEARCH, DATES SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 1858- 1910. IT HAS A RAISED RELIEF DESIGN ON THE FRONT OF A DARK BROWN SAILING SHIP WITH THE WORDS"SPECIAL" ABOVE AND"HIGHLAND WHISKEY" BELOW. APPARENTLY THESE JUGS ARE VERY OFTEN CHIPPED OR CRACKED, BUT NOT THIS ONE. THE ENTIRE THING APPEARS TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH MINIMAL WEAR- EVEN ON THE BASE. IT DOES HAVE SOME CHALKINESS AROUND THE LETTERING ON THE FRONT BUT, FROM OTHERS I HAVE SEEN, THIS APPEARS TO BE NORMAL. THERE IS ALSO A SLIGHTLY DARKER, ALMOST RUST-COLORED PATCH ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PEA, IN THE SHIP'S SAIL TO THE UPPER LEFT OF THE WOLF'S HEAD. Unusual Antique Royal Doulton Motto Puzzle Jug - Within This Jug…" (1890)
This extremely rare Royal Doulton motto puzzle jug was designed by artist Maud Bowden in 1890 which bears the following around its tapered oval body: WITHIN THIS JUG THERE IS GOOD LIQUOR" THIS FIT FOR PARSON OR FOR VIGAR" BUT HOW TO DRINK AND NOT TO SPILL" WILL TRY THE UTMOST OF YOUR SKILL" The neck of the jug has pierced holes with the top bearing a band of five small cylindrical tubes. It has a C-form handle with dark green lappet bands flanking oval body. At the base of the jug. It is embossed with the Royal Doulton marking including the initials Mb of artist Maud Bowden. The jug stands 7.5 inches. It is in excellent condition. No cracks. Scratches, or restoration.
