Pot-Belly Crock Jug - Southwest Style
You are viewing a very nice little Vintage Potbelly Style pottery jug. This jug is more of a true deep golden yellow than it appears in the photos. Closer to the 2nd photo in tone, but a very rich golden yellow color, a true Southwest color. This is a fairly small. But not at all miniature size jug, with a nicely round shape. It has no cracks or chips, only a bit of scuffing from sitting on a table or shelf, the normal marks you would expect in a vintage piece of pottery. There is a marking on the bottom. Which I tried to show in the 3rd photo, which looks like the number 175. This jug measures about 5" across the thickest part and stands about 5" tall. This is a very cute and nice jug. It is actually coming out of a pot at the bottom of the tree. The jug displays three concentric rings around the neck by the handle. To be honest. There is minor glaze loss around back near handle and a scratch in the body on side done in manufacture. There is one small stone bruise also on the side near the neck. That said. This is a special jug. It appears to me that it is States Pottery in Stonington. CT in origin. You’ll never see another inscribed potted plant on an early 1800s jug. Looks like the pot is made of redware or clay to me It is signed and it is numbered. This pot measures 11" tall and 33" in circumference. It is a LARGE piece and the form is very unique with the single handle and deep ribbing on the handle. The blue flecks that you see in the photos are just spots of sunlight that was coming in the studio windows the day that I shot this piece.
