Up for sale is this beautiful old 2 gallon salt-glazed stoneware jug. Believed to have been produced around the 1880's. It has no chips or cracks! The"s" and" j" shaped marks on the side are scuffs or rub marks. Not cracks. It's in excellent condition overall. I don't know if it was done on purpose or not. But the mouth is tipped to the right. Believe me when I tell you that if you slip your index finger into the handle and hoist it on the back of your arm. The mouth is perfectly po ised to meet your lips! Great lot of 7 pieces of Colonial Williamsburg salt glazed pottery w/ cobalt decoration. This lot includes#1 a tall hooded candle holder w/ handle; it is 7.25" tall. And 3.25" wide at the base. The width tapers from top to bottom. 2, There is a small mug with a handle; it measures 3.5" tall, and the diameter is 2.5" 3 Next is a chamberstick styled candle holder with a unique twisted handle. This piece measures 4.75" tall, and the diameter at the widest point is 3" The top of the candle holder{ opening for candle} is 1.2" Piece#4 is an inkwell, measuring 3.5" tall, and 2.2" diameter at the base, and the very top is 0.6" 5 is a candleholder that is 3.2" tall, 2.5" diameter at the bottom and the top is 1.2" diameter. Piece#6 is a lovely frog style vase that is 4.2" tall, 4.25" ... morewide at the widest point, and the bottom diameter is 2.5" This piece also has a handle, and multiple openings for flower stems, as well as cobalt décor on both front and back. 7 is a small crock, measures 3" tall, 2.6" diameter at the top opening, and a 2" diameter base. All pieces have the lovely blue leaf decoration. All pieces are signed Williamsburg pottery on the bottom. These pieces are in excellent used condition. There are a very few rough areas that can only be identified by feel; you cannot see them, and are typical of this type of salt glazed pottery. It is due to the manufacturing process as these areas are covered with glaze. The only possible flaw is an 0.1" 1/8 of an inch} superficial"crack" or" slit" on the inside rim of the small crock{ piece#7} It is difficult to see, I mention it only to be accurate in our description.
