This map of St. Kitts(also known more formally as Saint Christopher) One of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles, was drawn by Jacques Nicolas Bellin and published in his Petit Atlas Maritime. Paris, 1764. The image area measures 20.2 x 34 cm[8" x 13-1/2" And the map is titled Carte de l'Isle de St. Christophe. The scans below give a closer look: Topography is shown in relief. Offered is a scarce autograph on a document that measures 6 x 8 inches. Is blank on verso but for brief docket, and is dated at Boston, January 7, 1680. Condition is generally good, though with some roughage along the right edge and a bit of wrinkling which could be ironed out though we havn't attempted it. This is a Bond- docket reads Lynde vs. Egerton/Bond 1680" and reads in part"Know all men by these presents that I Peter Egerton of Boston in the Massachusetts Collony[in] New England, Barber, do acknowledge to owe& justly indebted unto mr Joseph Lynd of Charlestown in the same Collony the just& full sum of one hundred pounds currant money of New-England. And so on. SEE SCANS for full text. The document is signed by Peter Egerton, John Jackson, John Keen, Thomas Danforth, and John Hull. Danforth(1623-1699) is by far ... morethe best known of the group, a figure of great influence in public affairs. He had just been elected the year before Deputy Governor of Massachusetts Bay, and he signs"Tho: Danforth Dep. Gov. Today he is perhaps best known for his involvement in the Salem witch trials of 1691-1693 in which he is usually negatively portrayed, though in fact while very conservative he appears to have had serious doubts about what was happening. This to the extent of assisting a few of the accused to re-locate on lands he owned west of Boston in the Framingham area. John Hull also signs as an Assistant. Hull(1624-1683) held the office of Assistant(similar to being on the Governor's Council in later years) and was the first Mintmaster of Massachusetts Bay. A prosperous merchant, one of his apprentices, Jeremiah Dummer, would become the first American-born silversmith. Joseph Lynde(1636-1727) was perhaps an even more prosperous merchant in Charlestown. The American Antiquarian Society has a few of his papers, and if recollection serves rightly he was a direct ancestor to Dorothea Lynde Dix, the early 19th century reformer and part of that humanitarian impulse which swept through a good part

Strong flew a Rampant Raider A-4F Skyhawk BuNo. 155045. Side number NP 301 and he was shot down by North Vietnamese anti-aircraft fire during a strike near Vinh, North Vietnam. Two very nice letters from a woman living in Charlestown NH to her cousin in Moretown VT. I have researched both and have confirmed the identities. The writer was Catherine"Cate" Fletcher and the recipient was her cousin Almira Royce(Silsby) Both letters have great genealogy info and contain the usual family chit-chat. Letter#1 is dated Dec 20. 1857 is 4 pages long. Letter#2 is dated Jan 11. 1861, also 4 pages long. I have included a few scans of the letters but have added the complete transcirptions. ABOUT CATHERINE FLETCHER Catherine M. Jones" was the daughter of Abraham + Susan Jones. Born in 1824. Married Samuel Laselle Fletcher in 1846. They had 3 daughters: Ellen, Katie and Mary. The family lived in Charlestown NH for well over 50 years. Catherine was still living at the age of 85 according to the 1910 census. Samuel ... moredied sometime between 1880 and 1900. Daughter Katie died young in 1866. Ellen became a watchmaker in Charlestown. Mother Susan Jones was living with the family in the 1880 census. At the age of 80. Vintage Hoosier Ordnance Police Badge--Charlestown, Indiana IND--Obsolete
This badge is from the now closed Hoosier Ordnance Plant better known to locals as"the powder plant" The Hoosier Ordnance Plant was built by W-H-M-S Construction company(Winston Brothers. Haglin, Missouri Valley and Solitt) in 1941 at Charlestown, Indiana close to Louisville, KY and operated was by Goodyear Engineering Corporation(GEC) It basically siezed all operations before 1993. This badge with GEC on the front dates to pre-1960 when Goodyear control switched to Liberty Powder Control Corp. The front of the badge is very good condition. The back side has its original pin, but the J-hook is broken off. This is a great collectible for the Charlestown-Jeffersonville area collector. A Memorandum Concerning the Charlestown Post Office. n.p. 1835. 23 pp. Softbound with string binding. The pamphlet is a reply by Austin. The Postmaster of Charlestown, Massachusetts to charges brought up by the Assistant Post Master General, S.R. Hobbie, who was trying to remove him from office. Hobbie claimed that Austin was frequently away from the job in Boston for personal reasons. Leaving charge of his duties to his assistant who was but 13, that there were irregularities in the delivery of the mail, and that he was not courteous to his customers. Generally very clean condition with no tears or markings. String binding is very good. Overall. A very good copy.

A New and Correct Plan of the Town of Boston Issued Oct. 1775. London by Gentleman's Magazine Fine antique engraved city plan printed in the late 18th century. Depicts"Charlestown in ruins" to the north of the city. With individual buildings damaged as a result of fighting during the Battle of Bunker Hill. Within the city itself we see a military magazine below Cambridge Street, as well as a Military Battery on the Common. Beacon Hill looks as if it were part of a mountain range, a fortification block is seen at the bottom neck, at the start of orange street. Noteworthy for its historical significance. As the map was created for distribution to the English public at the start of fighting in Boston during the Revolution, shortly after the attack on Bunker Hill. A reduced version of Pages map. In Good+ to near VG condition. Well ... morepreserved overall, light minor age wear, blank margins have been trimmed all around to just outside neatline, some moderate offsetting to bottom panel as seen, mounted long ago at the four corners to a much larger sheet of paper. Since it ALSO shows Sam A. Cooley, Official Photographer 10th US Army, photographing a Union? Soldier on the fort parapet in the distance. Stereoview photo has minimal wear/soiling/fading. Slight stain in lower left, and has excellent contrast which is amazing for age. Mount has light corner wear, light crease near top left corner, and a couple stain/soiling spots. I would say image is EX for age, while mount is VG+ condition for age. This would make an OUTSTANDING addition to ANY stereoview. ... morePhotographer, or Civil War collection. You can clearly see the tripod legs of the camera with the photographer hunched over under the camera hood taking the photograph. The small size of the men shows just how large and high the parapet was back than, in fact you can see stairs going up it and a hole/ tunnel going through it. Mid-ground shows a raised primitive walkway[must have been muddy] with bits of lumber& who knows what else lying on the ground. Foreground shows a brick chimney[the soldiers lived underground for protection from bombardments] The Gabion baskets in the background are obviously the same as the empty dark woven baskets in foreground that would have been filled with dirt and used for cover/protection, like sandbags are used in wars today. The area covers Saughton& Ratho north to Dalmeny across the Forth Bridge through Inverkeithing to Dunfirmline and on to Cowdenbeath. It involves all of the different old pre-grouping railway company lines and stations both goods& passenger with destinations plus milage figures. Lines of that time are depicted with different colours and includes sections of the North British& Forth Bridge Railway.This is a very old detailed official Railway map in very good condition. Historic 1786 American Recorder& Charlestown Advertiser on Religious Freedon The American Recorder and Charlestown Advertiser. March 3. 1786 Published by Allen and Cushing in Charleston. Massachusetts. An uncommon newspaper that was only published only from 1785 to 1787. Contains the very historic first half of the famous Memorial and Remonstrance against Religious Assessments by James Madison. The second half would be in the next issue) In 1785 James Madison found himself at odds with Patrick Henry over the question of religious establishment in the state. Henry was pushing for a bill which would have taxed Virginians to support"Teachers of the Christian Religion. Madison opposed the measure. And wrote a pamphlet in the summer of 1785 called the Memorial and Remonstrance against Religious Assessments which set forth his views. It ... morewas distributed and read throughout Virginia. And circulated as a petition. The pamphlet argued for the"unalienable right" of every man to exercise his religion as"conviction and consciencemay dictate, and it also claimed that religious establishment"is a contradiction to the Christian Religion itself, for every page of it disavows a dependence on the powers of this world. Largely because of Madison's efforts. Henry's bill died quietly in the fall session of the assembly. Madison followed up this victory by securing the passage of the Statute for Religious Freedom, which his good friend Thomas Jefferson had drafted before leaving for a diplomatic mission in Paris. The Eagle has a large bent nail in the bottom where it was most likely mounted on something with an oval edge. The wings were attached with long nails about 1 3/4" long that are lose most likely with drying over the years need to be reattached to secure them to the bird. This should be done by someone knowledgeable of working with old wood. This wood is very dry. I do not want to damage it so will ship the wings wrapped seperate from the birds body and bottom mount. My pictures do not do justice it is majestic. The Eagle stands about 12" tall and 12" at the widest wing span. John Haley Bellamy 1836- 1914 did not sign most of his art. This was done by a master wood carver and unsigned. On the back is a thin wire for hanging. Briefly- I have a SMOKE& PET FREE home! I scour the world over for the unique items sold here on Ebay. Printed on heavy paper, blank on the reverse with original handcolor as issued. It is basically as seen in the pics, with overall tonal aging and slight darkening around the edges. There are some fern prints in the left margin and some stray blue and light smudges in the margin, otherwise the map image is fairly clean with bright color and a nice antique quality that is rare to fine in this condition. The pics are of the actual map and very accurate of condition and color in general, however the actual map looks much better.
