This is a hand made copy of an original Byzantine Orthodox icon of St. George. The dragon slayer. If you read the inscription on its back side, you'll see that the original icon they copied was painted on canvas and wood. Half of the inscription on the back side of this icon is in Greek and the rest in English. This icon is roughly 5 x 4 inches in size. There may be some gold color missing around its edges. I've had this piece for a long time and have decided to part with it. For your consideration: An antique Saint George and the Dragon European Church Salvage Brick. This foundation brick is made of an unknown material to me. It seems to be a mixture of wood and masonry stucco like material. Please review photos. It’s small(5 1/2" x 6 1/2" but heavy. I was told it was saved from a European Church somewhere in Italy that was undergoing a restoration to the interior of the church. Outstanding! You can also see a little Madonna or Angle like figure. To the far right side of this piece. This mysterious figure may in fact be the King’s daughter Princess Cleodolinda.
