They are about 6-1/2" long and all have the original massive 4-1/2" screws with flat heads and washers attached. They all have some remnants of white and/or red paint in varying degrees of thickness. They are lighter in weight than I would have expected them to be so I'm not certain of the metal; I would think they are not cast iron but more likely steel. These are true antique. Mixed Lot of 6 Antique Cast Iron Shutter Dogs In Clamshell Pattern As Found
Here are six cast iron shutter dogs from the late 1800s. They are in the clamshell pattern are just as found removed from a old house and have old green paint and a weathered exterior. Three have a projection of 3 1/4" from the wall surface and of the three there is one left& right pair plus one right handed. Two have a projection of 2 3/4" and are a matched left& right hand set. The one remaining of the six has a projection of 2" and is right handed. The stems are fluted and the bases measure 2 1/4" square and each require four#10 screws as fasteners. The shells are about2" in diameter and overall length of the keeper is 4" These were expensive in their day and were found generally on more lavish homes of the period.

Vintage 1950's NOS MIB Steel Shutter Turnbuckle Dogs New In Box MINT Condition
Made by The New Britain Tool& Manufacturing Co. They appear to be from the 1950's, maybe 1960's and they have not been out of the box much cuz they are in the exact condition you might get them in when they were originally shipped.Mint. They are flat-black and a heavy 1/8 inch thick steel with a good weight to the whole box.just over 9 ounces. 6-5/8 inches long and I don't know why there is an extra. Spare bolt, but I left it in there and there is no cotter pin hole in it and it looks like it may have been added to the box later cuz the square head has a tiny bit of paint loss, like someone used a wrench to try it on something else, anyhow it's an extra and the rest of the package is original and mint.
