A pretty braided rope design runs around an oval medallion decorated with a rose. Flowers and leaves. The rope forms a knot at the top of the medallion and is tied below, finishing in two tassles. They have a gorgeous open acanthus leaf embellishment that will sweep down over the top of the curtain when hung on a pole. The effect will be stunning and very château chic. These rings would originally have been sewn directly ... moreonto the curtain but have been adapted in latter years for use with hooks by adding metal loops. Once hung with curtains the metal loops will not be seen but they can be taken off or changed as required. The gilding on the ormolu has mellowed over the years to a fabulous antique hue. The rings are all good and strong with no dents. The soldering on one of the acanthus leaves has given over the years but it has been carefully wired back on with fine gold coloured wire. This does not detract in any way as the acanthus leaf is not load bearing and still hangs as originally intended. The acanthus leaf embellishment measures 9.5 cm(3.75 inches) high x 3.25 cm(1.25 inches) wide. The inside of the curtain ring itself measures 6 cm(2.25 inches) diameter. Antique Ormolu Brass Curtain Tie-backs 1900s Elegant and Petite
A pair of Brass Antique 1900s French Curtain tiebacks are elegant. I haven't polished them but left them as they are. It stands out from the wall for 9 cm or 3 1/2 inches. These tiebacks have a hook on the back to secure them on to the wall as well as two pinholes. Near the top on one of the pair there is some stress cracks but the pair are still strong. These are elegant as well as ornate looking. Good Quality weight to them. I will do combined postage if more than one article is purchased. Each is topped with a scallop shell cartouche which is repeated on the ornate front medallion. The scallop shell is the symbol of Saint-Jacques. Dating to medieval times and associated with pilgrimages through France to Spain. It is found on many French decorative pieces. Textiles. Metalware and furniture. They are made of cast bronze with an applied gilding. Known as ormolu. It is no longer being made in the traditional way. Which goes back many centuries. It has been replaced with electroplating. They are of a size large enough to hold back a substantial pair of château ... morecurtains. They are of good quality with substantial weight and excellent detail and definition to the casting of the metal. The back plate has a decorative acanthus leaf design and the fascia of the hook has a splendid palmate shield. The gilding on the tie backs has mellowed over the years to a matt finish in a lovely old gold hue. Small areas of verdigris complete this fantastic effect which could not be replicated. The tie backs have a hole in the back plate for screwing to a wall and there is a strap on the reverse of the back plate for hanging on a hook. They are large and grand and would hold back a very substantial pair of château curtains. They are of fabulous quality with substantial weight(each one weighs over a kilo) and excellent detail and definition to the casting of the metal. The back plate is very decorative with an acanthus leaf design. The fascia of the hook has an acanthus leaf crest below which is a faux ribbon tie. On the back of the hook is an impressive pineapple finial. The tie backs have a strap on the reverse of the back plate and can be fixed by hanging them on a hook. They have a gorgeous rose and leaf embellishment that will sweep down over the top of the curtain when hung on a pole. ... moreThe effect will be stunning and very chic.
