The have a fabulous fatigued French look and are in great condition but they do have a little split in the bronze but they are still sound. Please see the photograph. A fabulous pair of tiebacks. I don't think that my photographs have done enough justice to them. They measure 4½" for the length of the back plate. When on the wall they will sit 4" proud. The space for the curtain is approximately 3½" wide and 4" deep. The combined weight is 332 grams. On the rear they are marked JD 375. I have left them as I found them but they would polish up. Each is topped with a scallop shell cartouche which is repeated on the ornate front medallion. The scallop shell is the symbol of Saint-Jacques. Dating to medieval times and associated with pilgrimages through France to Spain. It is found on many French decorative pieces. Textiles. Metalware and furniture. They are made of cast bronze with an applied gilding. Known as ormolu. It is no longer being made in the traditional way. Which goes back many centuries. It has been replaced with electroplating. They are solid cast in bronze/brass and have an ornate design of swagged roses and flowers around an acanthus leaf. Including the screw they each measure approximately 11.5cm or 4.5" in length the diameter of the end section that fits onto the pole measures approximately 4cm or 1.5" Condition These finials are in good used condition having a lovely patina commensurate with age. I have left these finials as I have found them but I am sure that they would polish nicely if you required a brighter finish. The cups that fit onto the poles are slightly out of shape but they could be moulded back into shape once they have been secured to your pole.
