Rare 19th century antique print circa 1894 This print is over 110 years old TITLE: Saint Cecilia" St. Cecelia is the patron saint of music and a martyr who was blind. And this painting is of three angelic faces or cherubs in upper right corner of the painting dropping roses down to a lady with a halo above her head and sitting at a type of piano or organ. I read somewhere that the cherubs were dropping flowers down to the keyboard to prevent her from getting her fingers injured as the keyboard covering was starting to close. Saint Cecilia is said to have heard heavenly music inside her heart when she was forced to marry the pagan. Valerian. A wealth of music, art and festivals in honor of St. Cecilia has grown from this little bit of information from her biography. She is the acclaimed patron saint of music, especially church music, ... moreas well as that of musicians, composers, instrument makers and poets. The name Cecilia means blind and so, although we don't know if she herself couldn't see, she is also the Catholic patron saint of the blind. It is believed that St. Cecilia was born in the 2nd or 3d century A.D. Although the dates of her birth and martyrdom are unknown. A religious romance telling the love story of Saint Cecilia and Valerian appeared in Greece during the 4th century A.D. and there is a biography of St Cecilia dating from the 5th century A.D. She is purported to have been the daughter of a wealthy Roman family, a Christian from birth, who was promised in marriage to a pagan named Valerian. Cecilia, however, had vowed her virginity to God, and wore sackcloth, fasted and prayed in hopes of keeping this promise. Saint Cecilia disclosed her wishes to her husband on their wedding night. She told Valerian that an angel watched over her to guard her purity. Binding is good, no pencil mark on cover, some yellowing and fading The vintage sheet music we are selling is a variety of used pieces from 1900's to 1970's. The conditions will vary from good to excellent. These are used pieces and do show normal signs of wear. Normal wear may consist of names written on cover or inside sheets. Pencil marks/notes, torn to separated binding, wrinkles/crinkles, folds/dog ears, small tears, store or owner's sticker etc. Pictures speak a 1000 words! Music instructor for piano, guitar, accordion, violin, and steel guitar, played the accordion in a polka band, and she also learned to play the steel guitar when her husband was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She loved music, loved to play music, loved to collect music, and loved to share music with those around her! We originally didn't purchase the sheet music for resale but we've realized there is too much music for just one family and we need to share as well. Offered here for your consideration is a Antique Grand Tour Bronze Sculpture of Saint Cecilia After Stefano Maderno from the 19th century or earlier. It is in overall very good condition with nicks(most noticeably on her back) The Bronze appears to have traces of original gilding on the recesses. The entire piece may have been gilt during the earlier time of its creation. The rough marble portion of the plinth has nicks. Scratches, and cracking to one side. The associated black marble of the paint has nicks, minor repairs to the corners, and repainted in sections. Overall, the entire piece has light surface scratches and scuffing throughout, and signs of light wear consistent with its age. But we are not sure if the one medal is St. Cecilia or if this is from the Catholic grade school by the same name. The 10K etched cross has a diamond centerpiece. The gold medal on the cross has Christ on the one side and I believe Mary and baby Jesus on the other side. The oval medal has an enamel background with a Saint in the center. There is writing all the way around the medal, but I do not have a strong enough magnifying glass to read what it says. The back also has designs, please check picture#10. The back of the cross has etched 10K ESEMCO Not sure if it is a C or possibly a G. Size. Rossini, Gottuzzo Music Medal, St. Cecilia?
This medal has a woman on the front leaning on a piano with a harp on top. She has four stars lingering over her head. This medal is very detailed. I don't find a silver. 925 mark, but I do think it has silver because there is some tarnish which I will let the buyer clean. There are also a couple of spots on the front that I'm not sure are tarnish. I will not attempt to remove them. The front of the medal has"Gottuzzo" in very tiny letters. The back reads"Conservatorio Musical Rossini Mencion Especial Buenos Aires. Measures 35 millimeters from top of bail to bottom of medal and 30 millimeters across. This is a beautiful medal. It is written that as the musicians played at her wedding she"sang in her heart to the Lord" Her feast day is celebrated in theRoman catholic. Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, and Eastern Catholic Churches on November 22. She is one of seven women, excluding the Blessed Virgin, commemorated by name in the Canon oft he mass. Cecilia is one of the most famous of the Roman martyrs, even if the familiar stories about her are apparently not founded on authentic material. According to Kirsch, while it is a pious romance, like so many others compiled ... morein the fifth and sixth century, the existence of the martyrs, however, is a historical fact. The relation between St. Cecilia and Valerianus, Tiburtius, and Maximus, mentioned in the Acts, has perhaps some historical foundation. Her feast has been celebrated since about the fourth century.
