It is one of three great little antique glass treasures listed. It has original stopper, which is also in fine condition. Total height is about 4" tall. The Alvin Manufacturing Company was founded in 1886 by William H. Jamouneau in Irvington. New Jersey. The company moved to Sag Harbor, Long Island in 1895 and later changed its name to the Alvin Silver Co. in 1919. The Alvin Silver Manufacturing Company was known for making fine sterling silver. The Gorham company of Providence, Rhode Island acquired the Alvin Company’s dies and patterns in 1928. It measures approximately 3 3/4" with original stopper. It is marked" 999/1000 Fine" with the Alvin hallmark and numbers" 3 111" The Sterling overlay on this lovely bottle bears the hallmark of the Alvin Manufacturing Company. Which became Alvin Silver in erlay 1900. The art nouveau silver whips and swirls around the inverted tear-shape of the bottle. Forming flowers and stems. The condition of this bottle is near mint. The only problem is that sometime in the last century the stopper was bumped and has a slight chip and two small crack inside bottle neck(doesn't show when it is on. It sits properly and doesn't take away from the beauty of this bottle) Please note in the photos I show how the bottom of the bottle and the bottom of the stopper have matching etched numbers: 18. Both need to be polished and interiors cleaned as they have Cloudiness. Moisture residue, build up inside. I did not want to risk doing any damage to these pieces so I left them As-Is. One has a little wider cover lip. The Stoppers are complete. One has a“fracture” Bottom of stem, but it seems to be internal. Both have chipping/fleabites along stem bottoms. The One Stopper with the“fracture” was hand-blown and is hollow. The other Stopper is Solid. Each are similar size but have a little different shape. These two really complement each other. This is a delightful little panel cut crystal perfume bottle with a sunburst to the underside. It has a flip top sterling silver lid. The interior of which is gold washed with some corrosion. The glass stopper is locked in. The sterling neck of the kid is fully hallmarked. With the sterling lion, the Birmingham anchor and the date mark“u” for 1894. As well. There is the maker’s mark“H& T” for Hilliard and Thomason, silversmiths in Birmingham during the second half of the 19 th C. The bottle stands 2 1/2” tall X 1 ½” across the shoulders. And is in good used antique condition, with the crystal in very good shape, and the lid showing four dents. Any dark or bright spots not mentioned previously are reflections in photography. Antique Victorian blue glass & silver double ended perfume scent bottle
Over the next few weeks I am selling a large collection of antiques for my brother. Most have been acquired through auction houses. This auction is for a really beautiful double ended scent bottle. Late 19th century. The main body is a 10 sided deep turquoise blue glass section with silver ends both sides. It is almost identical to this one. Which is selling for £255! Which no longer tightens properly, there is a small crack at the base of the lid. The other side has a hinged lid with original cut glass stopper which snaps shut nicely. Apparently according to the website above it was common for scent bottles of this ... moreperiod not to have marks. I have not tested the composition, and no guarantees that they are not silver plate. Measures approx 4 7/8" long x 1 1/8" at widest point. This measures: 14" in diameter x 1 1/4" high. The Glass Mirror measures: 11 1/2" in diameter. This is in nice antique condition. No dents. Dings or pitting. There are some spots of plate wear. This Plateau has a nice basket style side edges with ornate Applied base rim with Flowers and Scrolls. The Beveled edge Mirror has Cut Starbursts around the outer edge. This large cut crystal perfume bottle is cut in a hobnail and diamond pattern. With panel cutting to the shoulder. It has a screw-on sterling lid. Which is hand-engraved to its top with scrolled foliate designs. There is a vacant cartouche to the middle and an engraved double dotted line pattern to the edge and around the cartouche. The neck is fully hallmarked. With the sterling lion, the Birmingham anchor and the date mark“u” for 1919. There is also a rubbed maker’s mark“WA” for William Adams. Who worked out of Birmingham in the first half of the 20 th C. The perfume bottle measures 5” tall and 4” at its widest. It is in good antique condition. Beautiful little antique Dutch silver perfume case from 1848. Lid is decorated using the repousse method and depicts flowers. Vines and berries. Another band of flowers encircles the middle of the case. A twisted rope pattern decorates the top edge of the li d and the bottom edge of the case. The five marks on the piece are: Lion(Holland) with"2" indicating 833 silver; the date letter"O" for 1848; soldier with helmet for the assay office(city letter worn off) And a makers mark"PC114" Initials on the bottom read"MC" Measurements are 1 5/8" wide by 1 5/8" tall x 1 1/4" deep. It has a glass aplicator attached to the silver screw on lid that has a blue stone on the very top attached with 4 prongs. It has a thick silver rope chain around the sides. Back, front, bottom and neck of the bottle. Filigree neck with the light blue stone on the very top. The face and back have three ornate(6 in all) leaves decorating the bottle which is 1 1/4" wide. 2" high with the neck and 3/4" deep, front to back. It is a beautiful little bottle and one of a kind. The cap is threaded inside and screws on& off of the threaded top of the glass bottle. The cap is also hallmarked"STERLING" on the bottom side. Under this cap is the original glass stopper. The tab handle to the stopper was applied to the round base. There is a line where the tab was attached(this is not a crack) These bottles are very rare due to their fragility. Most pieces found have cracks hidden by the silver overlay. This piece does not. The bottle measures approx. 2 5/8" tall from the base to the top of the Sterling silver lid. The bottle measures approx. 1 1/2" diameter. This item is an estate piece and in excellent condition for it's age. The Sterling lid has some shallow dents consistent with it's age& the softness of Sterling. The silver overlay is in excellent condition. There are no pieces missing, only a few small dings. The enamel work is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks& only very minor fading to the upper left corner which is not even noticable enough to photograph. I have seen a few with plain enamel guilloche on the back side but I have never seen one that has the flowers on both sides. The detail of the roses& leaves against the blue enameling is simply gorgeous. I did not find any marks on it but it has been tested& is positve for silver. It is very heavy weighing 21.9 grams. The dabber is perfectly intact& the top screws on as if it were new. There is a lovely rose at the top of the dabber which I have tried to photograph the best I could. It measures 1 3/4" ... morelong by 1" across. I have shown it next to a quarter for better reference. I scour antique malls.
