Antique Wood Metal TRIUMPH Corn Pumpkin Seeder Seed Planter A C Kent One of our suppliers spends much of each month travelling all over the U.S. searching out rare primitive pieces like this. We never know what he'll come up with next. What we appreciate about his pieces is that he gets them back here and cleans them up to beautiful condition. This is a REALLY nice old piece. It's an antique" seeder" I believe you would pour the seeds in the metal box on the side of this piece. Then you'd hold the handles OUT.push the metal end into the ground.then pull the handles together. When you pull the handles together.it makes the metal sticking into the ground"open" When it opens.it releases the seeds from the metal box down the metal tubing that runs from the box down and into the ground. At least.that's how I'm"guessing" ... moreit works. You can find these old"seeders" from time to time.but MOST of the ones we come across are either UNmarked OR were never marked to begin with(many crudely handmade ones out there) What makes THIS one so precious is that the markings are still MOSTLY COMPLETELY Visible. AND the original maker is easily researched. Arthur C. Kent was a local distiller in Janesville. Wisconsin in the late 1800's. In 1872 he came up with the idea for this" seeder" He patented the idea and began making the Kent Triumph hand corn planter. This was the official start of the A.C. Kent Company. He later also sold clothes wringers. Fanning mills, etc. I believe he operated up until about 1912 or 1913. I'd never held one of these things before.although I've seen pictures of them in old advertising. Here's a similar one I found listed on page 28 of the book"Primitives Our American Heritage" by Kathryn M. McNerney: AND I've seen a few come up for sale before. ANTIQUE HAND SEEDER HAND PLANTER Condition is good showing to be structurally sound with some minor cosmetic denting around the top of the metal hopper. The wood handle and arm assembly are in good condition with no signs of cracks or breaks. The metal hopper does show some rust and the bottom mechanical section is operational although there is a smaller arm missing that slides in the bottom of the hopper and connects to the top of the mechanical section arm. Presented is this Rare POSITIVE Antique Seeder/ Planter in wonderful. Well-preserved, operating condition. Implement from an estate sale. Displays like a 19thC Patent Model. Seeder constructed with wood shaft and handle with cast iron hardware and wheels. The Seeder operates by: first tilling the soil with its triangular rake; then seeds are inserted into the channel fastened along the wood handle's shaft; and lastly as seeds exit channel below they are pressed into the soil with its hammer remotely controlled from the wood lever stationed near top of the handle. This listing is for an authentic vintage antique garden tool. This is a small push-style one row planter or seeder. I can find no makers or patent markings. It was a wooden drive wheel. And Cast iron frame with furrow opener. Interior is tin or light steel and is a two-part drum with diamond shaped openings. Sliding the two sides together increases or decreases the size of opening to determine seeding rate. It has a two bolt clamp to go on a wooden handle. I did not find the handle. it must have been repurposed by the original owner. There is a small bent rod at bottom that would drag as the furrow closer. Wood wheel is held on shaft by a single cotter's pin. Removal of this pin and the wooden wheel would allow the tin drum to be filled with seed. Wheel is 9" in diameter, and cast iron part is 12" in total length. This planter ... moreappears to have never been used. It is in excellent condition. This auction is for an old planter. It has a great industrial steampunk look. It has some great patina and with some oiling of the parts could easily be used again. You would wear this piece with the canvas part going over your neck and the half round part around your belly waist and then turn the handle spraying seeds in front of you as you walk. The canvas area is pretty shot and would need to be replaced but at least some of it is still there to use a template most do not have any of this left. Nice antique c1900 Planet Jr 300 300a push planter seeder. With lots of original paint, graphics and markings. Crack in left hand side handle is not all the way through. Still seems sturdy, but I would suggest repairing. Seeds still in hopper. Boy are they stinky! I will clean them out before shipping: I don't know much about this item. Not sure if its missing anything, but appears to be in working order. Will be shipped in 2 boxes handles removed from the unit and may remove wheels as well. I am guessing it weighs around 45-55 lbs. I can't really make out what all it is saying. It is in nice collectable condition. It has some rust. Scuffs, and bangs. Opens and closes freely. Everything operates correctly. It is approx 33" tall. Vintage PLANET JR. No. 4 SEEDER Planter Cultivator FOR PARTS Hopper /Row Closers
I am selling some of my husband's Planet Jr. pieces that he has been collecting for a few years. I will have several auction listings this week. This listing is a PLANET JR. No. 4 SEEDER or PLANTER. On top of the seed box/hopper it is marked: U.S.A. PLANET JR. No. 4" On the bottom side of the hopper it is marked: K 577" Also on the front of the seed box is some remainder of the flower-like'star' emblem. The broken seed spacing star is marked: K575 on one side and 4 IN" on the other side. The plow point that opens up the row is marked: K 806. The two row closers are marked: K 248" and"K 249" The part of the frame that the back wheel attaches to is marked: K 409" There is a black metal plate next to the hopper that is marked with different vegetable names(indicating how deep to plant the seeds) ... moreI consider the planter to be in good used shape. But has a few issues. As I stated above. the seed spacing star has a broken piece, the original back wheel is missing and it has been replaced with a hand made wooden one, there is a crack in the cast iron below the hopper(see picture) and one of the pieces that the handle attaches to is broken off. I am listing as'for parts' We have the original handles for it but are not selling them with the seeder frame. The packaging of them is too difficult. I have estimated the shipping weight at 30 pounds. If the cost ends up being considerably less. then I will refund partial shipping cost back through your paypal account.
