I am selling an original Italian Renaissance hand carved fireplace surround. ... moreThe fireplace was imported from Italy by George D. Hale who built his mansion shortly after the Civil War. Hale was a professor. Scholar, and founder of the Hale Classical and Scientific School. Professor Hale was a graduate of the University of Rochester and a leader in civic and religious activities in Rochester, NY. He served as President of the Board of First Baptist Church for many years, was an active Republican and know widely throughout the area for his extensive library. He died in February, 1925 at the age of 81. The top portion of the fireplace is about 72 inches wide and 24 inches deep. The top right corner of the fireplace has a missing piece that measures 4 inches wide by 1 inch deep. The top panel with all of the hand carved figures is about 18 inches tall. 60 inches wide, and 20 inches deep. The columns are each 42 inches tall. 6 inches wide, and 8 inches deep. The overall dimensions of the fireplace surround are about 72 inches tall. 72 inches wide(top portion) and 20 to 24 inches deep. In its present state the fireplace is being used as a heat vent cover but the center panel is removable for a working wood burning fireplace. Rare Victorian Marble Fireplace Mantle. This was removed from a Historic Home in Boston many years ago. Already disassembled and ready for pickup. I also have the marble inserts that go just behind the arch(these pieces would be used if you wanted a cast iron arched door like they use to have) Width of the shelf is approx 68 inches.
