Marble Fireplace Mantel 4 Pieces White/Grey Female/Odalisque Pillars Decor
This is a 4 piece white/grey marble fireplace mantel with two odalisque/female pillars holding up both top pieces. The 4 different pieces are: 2 odalisque pillars. 1 middle mantelpiece that rests shoulder height, and 1 middle upper mantelpiece resting above their heads. There are small chips in the marble visible in some photos. The middle mantelpiece resting on shoulders is not flush with the top of the odalisque pillars making the top mantle piece a 1/4" higher than pillars. The main chip is out of the middle piece that is shoulder height. See pictures 11& 12. More pictures available upon request. John Bryan Fineart One Of A Kind Hand-carved White Pine Fireplace Mantel
This mantelpiece was created in 1990 from old growth White pine and features hand-carved Atlantic salmon swirling over a colorful redd. Trout lilies and classic featherwing salmon flies. The carvings are hand painted with Grumbacher's artist oil paints. The mantel was originally painted white and used in art shows and exhibitions. The trends at the time were considerably focused on natural woods(cherry and walnut primarily) and for that reason it never found a home, but spawned a number of commissioned pieces in natural woods. It is one of a pair of fly-fishing mantels Bryan created on speculation to use as examples at art shows to demonstrate the possibilities for commissioned pieces. The mantel has been exhibited periodically for various events. But has spent most of the past 25 years stored in a crate in the artist's studio. Bryan ... morestripped the white paint off the mantel recently to create the effect of an old mantel, once painted and now stripped down to the beautiful pumpkin pine. The painted centerpiece, trout lilies and salmon flies were left painted. The result is a wonderfully folky mantelpiece with classic proportions looking for a home after all these years. It has never been installed in a home and thus is offered as'new' It represents a'break out' moment for the artist as one of his unique blends of sporting art and classic architecture. It was featured in a number of publications such as Yankee Magazine. Sports Illustrated, Fly Rod& Reel, and more in the early 90's. Copies of them and it's provenance come with the purchase. Bryan's mantels stand on their own like a piece of furniture. The frieze. Pilasters and entablature are attached to a mortice and tenon framework to allow it to shrink and swell seasonally without cracking. There is a remnant of the makers tag still attached(See Photo) I can't make everything out, but it looks like the maker is Paramount. Rare Victorian Marble Fireplace Mantle. This was removed from a Historic Home in Boston many years ago. Already disassembled and ready for pickup. I also have the marble inserts that go just behind the arch(these pieces would be used if you wanted a cast iron arched door like they use to have) Width of the shelf is approx 68 inches.
