63"x50" Antique Red Oak Wood Victorian Fireplace Mantel Mantle Stripped Restored
Penn Antique Restoration. 63"x50" Antique Red Oak Victorian Fireplace Mantel Exquisite. Antique, solid, red oak fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel has an exquisite Victorian style design. Each leg has a round. Tapered, half-fluted column with round base and ornate capital. Notice the carved acanthus leaves on the capitals, and their reeded sides-what great accents! The body has lovely acanthus and volute motif in the center sitting atop a stepped ledge with dental molding. The crown molding, directly below the shelf also has steps and dental detail. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish. The body is made up of 2 boards, and the 2 boards separated from each other at some point(see photos under"Prior ... moreto restoration" In order to thoroughly remove the paint. Stain and finish, we had to take apart the whole mantel. We hand-scraped and sanded each piece, and then put them back together with new nails, drywall screws, and boards on the back acting as stiffeners. Now, the mantel is stronger and sturdier than ever! We rejoined the 2 boards of the body. And most of the applied carvings are intact. However, there are some pieces missing including a volute. If you would like us to hand-carve and apply the missing pieces, email us for a quote. Condition: The mantel is in great structural condition. There are some cosmetic blemishes. Which we opted not to repair in case you prefer a more distressed look. There are chips, scrapes, and scratches in various parts of the mantel. The most obvious are shown in the"Close up" photos. The light scrapes and scratches will sand-out during the prep-sanding phase, prior to applying stain, or could filled with wood putty prior to painting. The back corners of the shelf were cut off at some point-assuming it had something to do with the previous installation. email us for a quote. We could make and add new corners-email us for a quote.

We are pleased to offer to the market this beautiful antique fireplace mantle. This piece has great character and dates to the Victorian era. This piece measures 82" High x 60 3/16" at the widest point and it has a depth of 10.5" The mantle back has the main center mirror flanked by two smaller mirrors with shelves on the sides. The front of the mirror has turned& reeded columns holding a shelf above it. There are attached cornice pieces above the two smaller mirrored sections that are topped with a stick& ball design. This same design is also found on the crest at the top center of the mantle. There are hand carved medallions and curliques on this piece as well. This is a gorgeous mantle that will definately make a statement in a room. There are age and use appropriate scratches. Dings, divets, cracks, repairs, and ... moreother marks on this piece. Mantel shelf and keystone are removable, the rest of the surround is mounted permanently to a wooden frame underneath, so this is decorative only, not usable for a fire. Penn Antique Restoration. 56"x81" Antique Restored Carved Victorian Oak Fireplace Mantel Gorgeous. Antique, fireplace mantel salvaged from an old plantation home in Central Georgia. It is made entirely of red oak(no veneer) and dates back to the 1880's. The lower half has a fairly straightforward design with a few accents including a turned. Tapered column on each leg; a carved starburst motif above each column; and chamfered edges on both sides of each leg. The upper half has 4 shelves(2 long and 2 short) a recessed panel in the center contoured with egg and dart molding and an oval opening for a mirror; 2 turned. Tapered columns with a carved plinth block in the middle; and a lovely crown with curved ends. Glass: The original mirror had very little silvering left. So we didn't include it. The mantel will need a new mirror(flat ... moreor beveled) which we could order and install for you. If you would like a bigger mirror, we could remove the whole panel(the area in between the ornate molding) and install a rectangular mirror. Email and let us know what you would like, and we'll get you a quote. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under many layers of paint, and some parts were broken or missing(mostly decorative appliqués) We acquired the mantel in pieces. This facilitated the stripping process. But made putting it back together very difficult. We reassembled the mantel using modern glue, nails, and drywall screws. We also added hardwood stiffeners to the back of the mantel. Now, it's stronger and sturdier than ever! Condition: Considering that the mantel is about 130 years old. It's in amazing condition! You will find the typical cosmetic blemishes: nicks, scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes. However, to the antique enthusiast, those are character marks not flaws. There are no structural threats(i.e. breaks, cracks, rotting, etc. Finishing: All this beauty needs now is a nice stain and/or finish. We've finished many mantels before(see last 5 photos)

This mantel features a carved head surrounded by flowers in the center just under the shelf flanked by carved paw feet and legs on each side. The carving on this piece is absolutely stunning! This piece has been refinished at some point. Must have been redone some time ago as there are very tiny/sparse white paint specks on the top. You have to look closely to see them. Other flaws include a piece of trim missing off of the top of the right leg, a very small piece of trim missing from the square part at the bottom of the right front leg, a hole was drilled just to the right of the right leg which was probably for mounting purposes and there is a 1" long piece of trim missing on the top left side towards the ... moreback just under the top shelf. All minor and none detract from the over all appearance. You can view them in the many pictures below. Over all this mantel measures about 61 1/8" wide X 11 1/2" deep X 48" tall. Up for sale is an original antique carved white marble fireplace mantel. This piece is absolutely stunning! Excellent shape. No chips, cracks, or major staining. Stands approximately 43" tall, and 40" wide, with the top shelf being wider(approx 50" I am selling this in hopes it will be installed in a historic home or be appreciated like it should. Currently located in Asheville, NC, but i will deliver cheaply within a state or two area. I may also crate. Feel free to ask me any questions! Antique Victorian Birdseye Maple Fireplace Mantel c. 1890s This mantel was pulled from one of the first homes to be built on Coronado Island in California. It features birdeyes maple veneer over wood. Dentil trim, the original beveled mirror, columns and a scroll motif on the shelf supports. Beveled wood around the fireplace opening. Good condition for its age. It had been painted and stripped. Looks like water discoloration at the base of columns. See foto, plus other scuffs and remants of paint. The top shelf has pulled away a bit from the back, will try to get a detail foto. There is a crack or two in places, again, I'll get a foto up as soon as I can. A note on fotos: my flash has made the mantel appear shinier and lighter than it is. I will try to correct that soon. The 1st and 6th fotos are truer to actual color. There are 4 larger square tiles. 2 which are in the columns and 2 at the top corners under the mantel where the tile starts and the multi color tile was on the floor. The columns are a heavy cast iron made to look like it is wood with raised Cattails and beautiful design, awesome, the top mantel piece is an extremely heavy slate with a wood look finish on the top, the center piece is also a heavy cast iron, it ... morecomes with the two other black cast iron pieces and another piece of cast and roughly 250 to 300 ceramic tiles to make this mantal complete. The tiles have not been cleaned and some still have the mortar on the bottom of them. They do have a crazing to them. The darker color tiles are a beautiful green color, some of the pictures look as if they are brown but they are green. I believe they went around the two roman larger tiles. There are several tiles that were more fragile and broke while dissembling the mantel. They all will look great once they are cleaned, I do not have the knowledge for this and do not want to damage them in any way so I will leave the cleaning up to the buyer. This is a very RARE and awesome antique find along with the original tiles. The four larger figural tiles are extremely RARE also. This mantel. Offered for sale is this ornate wooden mantelpiece c.1890. The intricate carving and turning will make this an impressive addition to your building project or restoration! Note the beveled mirror in the overmantel. The condition of the wood in this mantel is excellent– the finish will need some refurbishment as there are what look like runs in the varnish and paint drips on the top shelf(only) and the person who painted the last room that it was in wasn’t too careful about cutting in around it. The patina is beautiful. But if you like a shabby chic look, or would enjoy spending a little time working on the finish, the dings on this 125 year old mantle are absolutely minimal. Staircase parts, fireplace mantles and more, so I contacted the owners of a few local buildings that were scheduled for demolition. I found and purchased all of the things that I needed for my project and lots of extra treasures which I eventually resold. 17 years later this is still my full time job!
