It can be repaired for alot less than that. You can see where someione attemted to repair it. Probably some farmer who didn't have the right equipment to do it. If you will notice. There are several places for this cover to be bolted. If you have a frame that will fit it, you will probably never even notice the crack. Because of the 2 bolts that hold that bottom piece on, it can't fall off. If I was going to use this, I would pick me up a tube of jb weld or sonic weld and fill the crack. That stuff dries hard as a rock. Any welding shop can fix this for you if you don't like that method and you have a beautiful antique cover. These special fitted ones are very rare and hard to come by. If you don't have the frame, any shop can make one and you still won't have as much in it as it would cost you without that crack. It measures 24" wide and 18 1/4" high. There's really no sense in me giving all the measurements for the holes, you'll know if you have the frame and if you don't then whoever makes one will have the cover to go by. This cover could be as old as 1900 or up thru the 30's. I wouldn't think it would be any newer than that. Let me know if you have any questions. Here is a very nice old cast iron summer cover for your fireplace.At least I think that is what this is?This came out of an old house that was being torn down.I also have a fender? from the same fireplace on another auction right now.This cover is about 27" x 19" and about 3" thick,with the part being recessed.very nice condition,no breaks or cracks that I see anywhere on this. We are pleased to offer this antique fireplace surround. This is a very nice piece and in very good condition. This set includes the fireplace surround. Summer cover and atta. ched grate. The fireplace has a very textured surface which is gilded and a coppery gold in color. The insert grate has columnal design which is reminiscent of the Greek Parthenon or Roman Pantheon. The removable summer cover door has a knob on each side. This unit is in very good condition with minimal evidence of age. The gilded finish is still very rich on the back of the summer cover door(see photo 9) There are no areas of rusting and the fireplace is structurally quite nice. There are numbers on the back. Removed from one of the fireplaces in a large 1860's home in Holly Michigan's historic district. There are three pieces to this set. There is a surround.A center cover for the firebox and a lower portion that goes under the center firebox cover, it has a sliding vent that still works as it always has. ANTIQUE FRENCH NOUVEAU VICTORIAN IRON FIREPLACE SURROUND SUMMER COVER GODDESS
We are pleased to offer this beautiful. Original, antique, cast iron fireplace. This is a 2 piece unit which includes the fireplace surround and the summer cover/door. This is an ornate fireplace which dates to the Victorian or Nouveau period. Their is a general French design to the unit. The surround has a French torch and flame design which is found on each side of the inner opening. The torches have tassel feet. A horizontal accent with fleur de lis ends crosses the torches at the upper section of the surround. There is a large double swag on the upper vent area. The swag consists of laurel leaves with a ribbon/bow at the center of each swag. The separate summer cover is quite striking. There is a large recessed area with a raised goddess portrait in the center. The portrait is accented with four, laurel leaf and ribbon swags. The cover ... morehas a upper and lower knob for opening and closing the cover. The entire unit has very old(original? white paint on all background areas. The raised patterns are all in original iron finish. The unit is in very good, unrestored, condition. It has an aged patina. The white paint has areas of rust which have bled through which adds to the aged character of the unit. The unfinished iron has a rusty patina as well. The unit is heavy. There is no makers mark, but the numbers 1492& 17 are stamped on the back of the cover as well as the surround. The surround measures 30.5" tall. It is 30.1/8" wide and it extends 4" front the wall at the vent area. The cover measures 25.5" tall and it is 24" wide. Shipping via GREYHOUND to the station of your choice. Antique Painted Cast Iron Fireplace Summer Cover Surround Ornate W Torch
Antique. Circa 1890's, ornate cast iron summer cover surround. The surround measures about 24 1/2" wide, 20 1/8" wide inside x 30" tall, 25" tall inside x 3/4" thickness on side edges. The rear is marked, 422" and"20" The back has various mounting hardware as pictured. The surround has a black protruding hood with floral designs and a center fleur de lis. The top gold painted areas have designs and flowers. Each gold side part has a torch with flames and leaves on the side. The paint is a recreation of the original colors. During cleaning and removal of top layers of added paint there was enough of the original paint remaining for me determine the color. After paint restoration, the front and back surfaces were top coated with a clear protective varnish. Very nice and detailed piece with the original ... more19th century appearance. This is an old/antique fireplace cover or cover for summer. It's made of some type of metal. I was able to get a magnet to stick to it. It feels too light to be cast iron. I thought it might be a tin material. But if it was, the magnet wouldn't stick. Even though there's surface rust type color places, I think it would clean up nicely. It's with a place for a pipe that slides over if needed. It has the surface rust type places but seems to be solid as far as I can tell and just needs some cleaning and maybe someone might want to paint it? I am not sure if it was originally made, but each side at the top and bottom have small hole places for small screws maybe? or maybe made for attaching or securing to the fireplace? It has the raised, embossed ornate designs. It looks to be a windmill, a river with a sail boat, village, men ... moreworking? and floral deco/designs around it. 12 photos uploaded hoping you can tell more about it and the condition. Side to side, across, it measures approximately 24 3/4 inches and 30 1/2 inches top to bottom/length. The little metal piece that sticks out on the back side, measuring front to back, almost 1/2 an inch. The pictures taken really doesn't do it justice. American antique cast iron interior fireplace two-piece summer cover. The ornate surround is 31.5"T x 28"W, made by T Bent& Son N.Y. style No. 168. The summer cover features a center pierced cartouche with ornate pierced floral design below. It measures 26"Tx16"W. It was made by James L Jackson& Bros style N. 252, it also has B 168 hand punched in the iron above the makers name. The summer cover fits perfectly into the surround. VICTORIAN ORNAMENTAL CAST IRON FIREPLACE INSERT SUMMER COVER WOMAN DRAGONS
Please scroll down under this description for additional views. Circa 1890 ornamental cast iron fireplace cover. Often called a summer cover since it hid the dirty black cavern of the fireplace during warm months, adding a touch of decoration and keeping the room clean. This cover measures 20" wide and 23" high with a slight outward curve at the top and truncated corners at the top. The center image shows a woman's head in profile surrounded by a sun ray design. Over the sun ray design is a tiny shield flanked by fanciful dragons. The outer design is a border of scrolls, leaves, berries and fleur-de-lis. There is a nice handle at the top that is cast of a separate piece of iron. The maker of the piece created the surround and then created a separate insert for the middle- they probably had a variety of inserts that could be ... morechosen for these frames. The insert is clearly marked PATENTED on the back, also marked"32" for the style. The company trademark appears as a pendant around the neck of the figure on the back side- hard to make out the overlapped letters but it looks like SECo. The nuts and bolts that hold the center piece in place are pretty rusty so I would proceed with caution before attempting to remove the center piece. There is surface rust on the back side- very little on the front which is painted black but has some drips of gray paint on it. ANTIQUE LATE 1800'S TIN? ORNATE SUMMER FIREPLACE COVER; EGYPTIAN PYRAMID CAMELS
This is a superb antique fireplace cover in the Egyptian style motif. It is 30.75" tall and 24.5" wide. The front is in very good condition; the back shows rust. I believe it is tin because of the back; the front looks like copper. It has a 3-d effect bulge at the viewing vent. It weighs about 4 pounds and has a wall mounting loop in the back.

Rare 1810 High Relief Figural Fox Head Cast Iron Fireplace Summer Cover Insert
Rare Cast Iron Fox Head Tombstone Style Fireplace Cover or Insert Manufactured sometime between 1790 and 1810. This cast iron fireplace cover is unusually heavy- weighing in at 60 pounds. It measures 23" wide- 25 1/2" tall in the center- 22 1/2" tall on either end- the edges are 3/8" thick- the Fox head extends 5 1/4" Saturday. May 3rd: I had a knowledgeable local Antique Dealer come into the store to check it out. He believes this cover dates anywhere from 1790 to 1810, judging from the quality and the thickness of the casting. It doesn't show up in the photos but there are fine fox hairs in the inside of the fox's ears and hair parted in the middle on the top of the fox's head. This is an item that should be seen to be truly appreciated. Aside from the surface rust. The item is in excellent condition ... morefor it's age- there are no cracks or breaks. The back is marked"DESIGN COPY RIGHTED BY W L SHARP& SON 1891" On the lower back it is marked 210. There is also a 9 mark to the right of the circle on the back. Check the pictures to see the marks.
