Penn Antique Restoration. 63"x50" Antique Red Oak Victorian Fireplace Mantel Exquisite. Antique, solid, red oak fireplace mantel salvaged from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The mantel has an exquisite Victorian style design. Each leg has a round. Tapered, half-fluted column with round base and ornate capital. Notice the carved acanthus leaves on the capitals, and their reeded sides-what great accents! The body has lovely acanthus and volute motif in the center sitting atop a stepped ledge with dental molding. The crown molding, directly below the shelf also has steps and dental detail. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish. The body is made up of 2 boards, and the 2 boards separated from each other at some point(see photos under"Prior ... moreto restoration" In order to thoroughly remove the paint. Stain and finish, we had to take apart the whole mantel. We hand-scraped and sanded each piece, and then put them back together with new nails, drywall screws, and boards on the back acting as stiffeners. Now, the mantel is stronger and sturdier than ever! We rejoined the 2 boards of the body. And most of the applied carvings are intact. However, there are some pieces missing including a volute. If you would like us to hand-carve and apply the missing pieces, email us for a quote. Condition: The mantel is in great structural condition. There are some cosmetic blemishes. Which we opted not to repair in case you prefer a more distressed look. There are chips, scrapes, and scratches in various parts of the mantel. The most obvious are shown in the"Close up" photos. The light scrapes and scratches will sand-out during the prep-sanding phase, prior to applying stain, or could filled with wood putty prior to painting. 56"x81" Antique Restored Carved Victorian Red Oak Wood Fireplace Mantel Mantle
Penn Antique Restoration. 56"x81" Antique Restored Carved Victorian Oak Fireplace Mantel Gorgeous. Antique, fireplace mantel salvaged from an old plantation home in Central Georgia. It is made entirely of red oak(no veneer) and dates back to the 1880's. The lower half has a fairly straightforward design with a few accents including a turned. Tapered column on each leg; a carved starburst motif above each column; and chamfered edges on both sides of each leg. The upper half has 4 shelves(2 long and 2 short) a recessed panel in the center contoured with egg and dart molding and an oval opening for a mirror; 2 turned. Tapered columns with a carved plinth block in the middle; and a lovely crown with curved ends. Glass: The original mirror had very little silvering left. So we didn't include it. The mantel will need a new mirror(flat ... moreor beveled) which we could order and install for you. If you would like a bigger mirror, we could remove the whole panel(the area in between the ornate molding) and install a rectangular mirror. The mantel was covered under many layers of paint, and some parts were broken or missing(mostly decorative appliqués) We acquired the mantel in pieces. This facilitated the stripping process. But made putting it back together very difficult. We reassembled the mantel using modern glue, nails, and drywall screws. We also added hardwood stiffeners to the back of the mantel. Now, it's stronger and sturdier than ever! Condition: Considering that the mantel is about 130 years old. It's in amazing condition! You will find the typical cosmetic blemishes: nicks, scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes. However, to the antique enthusiast, those are character marks not flaws. This mantel features a carved head surrounded by flowers in the center just under the shelf flanked by carved paw feet and legs on each side. The carving on this piece is absolutely stunning! This piece has been refinished at some point. Must have been redone some time ago as there are very tiny/sparse white paint specks on the top. You have to look closely to see them. Other flaws include a piece of trim missing off of the top of the right leg, a very small piece of trim missing from the square part at the bottom of the right front leg, a hole was drilled just to the right of the right leg which was probably for mounting purposes and there is a 1" long piece of trim missing on the top left side towards the ... moreback just under the top shelf. All minor and none detract from the over all appearance. You can view them in the many pictures below. Over all this mantel measures about 61 1/8" wide X 11 1/2" deep X 48" tall. Beautiful and unusual Mission fireplace mantle made of tiger oak and measuring 84" tall. 62" wide and 10 1/2" deep. The leaded glass doors measure 19 1/2" x 11" each for a total measurement of 41" x 11" They have latches on them to keep them closed. ANTIQUE 1900s SALVAGED OAK FIREPLACE MANTLE WALL SHELF CABINET PEDIMENT
We are pleased to offer this beautiful. Reclaimed, antique wall shelf cabinet. This wonderful piece was once either a fireplace mantle shelf or possibly a top to an old buffet. The shelf is made of solid oak with a medium oak stain. It features ornate, carved wood appliques which are mounted on flat, column type, side accent pieces. The appliques are pieced together to form acanthus scrolls. There is a small display shelf tucked in behind each column. The appliques on the lower sections of the columns, form a unique, winged" paw foot design. The unit once housed a large, oval mirror in the center. It is no longer present. The mirror opening has a delicate, beaded wood perimeter. The unit is in very good condition. There are two small pieces of applique that are missing one side(the right side in the photographs) Because of the pattern, ... moreit is very hard to discern this unless you are aware of it. Most of the old nails are screws are still present, but there are a few that have been replaced on the back side of the shelf. It is sturdy and ready for use. This is a very nice, old display shelf. The top portion is five feet wide to the very outside moulding. The elegantly carved torch area is 53-1/2" x 8" high x 6-1/4" deep. At the end of the 90 degree crown moulding. One end has a piece broken off, and the other very end piece is missing. The front is flawless and beautifully The bottom portion with the mirror is 52-1/2" across at the top crown moulding. The main large area at the mirror is 51-1/2" across at the top crown moulding. The main large area at the mirror is 51.75" across. This section is 24" high to the security shelf. It is 22.75" to top of moulding shelf. The large par of the torch pot stands out about 1" from the main ... moresurface. The carved torch piece on each side is slightly chipped on the right side. The double beveled mirror is about 39-1/2" x 17-1/2" The first bevel is about 1/4" and the larger one is about bout 1" to the frame. NICE. The large main section is 2-1/2" thick. A beautiful Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel with bevel edged Mirror. Circa 1880. We are pleased to present this fabulous antique Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel for your consideration. In the Arts& Crafts/ Mission style. The Mantel features a large beveled edge mirror above the shelf, along with a variety of decorative touches including attractive striping of the wood grain on the two vertical columns. The Mantel has overall dimensions of 82 inches high. 60-1/2 inches wide, and 14 inches deep. We estimate the weight at 150 pounds- two people can move it with effort, although its large size makes it somewhat torquey to handle. The mirror measures 17-1/2 inches high by 29-3/8 inches wide. The shelf is 44 inches wide and 7-1/2 inches deep. At the front. The opening for the fireplace is 39 inches high by 41-1/2 inches wide. At the back ... moreedge, the opening is 50 inches wide. Picture 5 shows where the"front" and"back" measurements were taken. Measuring from the wall, to the back edge of the"front" point, the depth is 5-1/4 inches. Faults are few and minor with this antique fixture. The silvering on the mirror shows only minor deterioration. With a few tiny black spots, and some larger areas of crazing where it still reflects. There are a few small burn marks(see pictures 3 and 4) but they only affect the surface finish. There is one noticeable bump to the front edge of the shelf(seen in picture 10) but it is not very large. Other than these issues, the Mantel is in fine shape. We rate the overall condition as very good. This is a gorgeous Arts& Crafts/ Mission style Oak Mantel. It would make a wonderful decorative piece for your remodeling project! I power washed the beam to remove that old stuff. has live edges. one side has some of the old lath nails. Up for sale is an absolutely gorgeous pair of Victorian mantels from a building erected in the 1860's. There is not a doubt in my mind that you will never come across a pair like this again. These are made from quarter sawn red oak which appears to be old growth. The grain and fleck from the quartersawing on these will take your breath away. Columns are solid. With carved ionic capitals, and the corbels for the shelf contain hand carved leaf patterns. There are many different carved molding styles present, and they retain the original beveled mirrors. These are an exact matching set. For being 150 years old they are in great shape. But they do show some wear. These would be best stripped due to years of being Murphy Oil-d.
