This is a fabulous antique Queen Anne style pine mantel. Dating from the 1890’s. It is crowned with an arched top, which is carved with a stylized foliate motif, and has a small shelf just below the arch, surrounded by a stick-and-ball railing. The shelf is followed by a scalloped border, which extends to a gracefully curved bracket on either side. Outside each bracket is a piece carved with a fan-shaped, fern-like design, curving down to the second shelf. The second shelf has a lovely beveled edge, and is supported by two pairs of balusters, which flank the beautifully aged beveled mirror. Each pair of balusters frames a beautiful leaf-shaped carved design and rests on the main shelf, connected to the last shelf by a fabulous pair of small turned spindles. The final shelf, a small ledge extending just above the firebox opening, is surrounded ... moreby a stick-and-ball railing, which angles inward at the front and is accented by two small ball finials. The ledge is supported beneath by a wonderful pair of turned posts. The firebox and the sides of the mantel feature lovely chamfered edges. Striking antique quarter-sawn oak fireplace mantel with a beveled mirror. Dating from the early 1900s. This Art Nouveau style mantel features intricate carving and a gorgeous tiger-stripe grain in the wood. The top of the mantel features beveled levels, coming down to a panel with raised vine leaf carvings around the outer edges. This section is supported by round columns with foliate capitals that extend all the way down. The beveled mirror is surrounded by a decorative tooth trim, and below is a projecting shelf with rounded edges. Monumental Tiger Quartersawn Oak Mantel, Refinished with Original Mirror
Monumental tiger oak/ quartersawn mantel. The orignal beveled glass mirror is included but not pictured. This has been stripped and refinished which is a real plus when dealing with these old mantels because that process is usually more expensive than the purchase price of one that is in need of it. Everything about this mantel is substantial; oversize base. Round columns, beefy shelf, and intricate details. Photos seven and eight were taken inside to give you an idea of the finish color. The other photos were taken outside. The condition of the base wood is great. There are no corners that are tore up or smashed, which tends to be typical when these are removed from houses, moved around and stored. With careful examination you will be able to find a few nicks and dents that have been finshed over. The most notable issues are the upper left ... morescroll decoration having a peice broken off and missing and some chips to the leaf corbels under the shelf. Photo nine shows the very top which would be well over head height. The back boards extend and there is obviously no shelf cap. Our suggestion would be to cut the excess off of the uprights and install a flat top shelf. This would not be able to be seen unless you are on a ladder. Dimensions are more or less accurate but if you have a critical requirement you should ask to have it rechecked: 62" overall width. Height 86" from bottom to top corner of shelf frame, 94" tall if you measure the uprights to the end. ~12" projection from wall, 10" projection from fire box, center shelf is 43" wide x 10" deep, mirror is 40" x 17" top shelf frame is 58"x 11" fire box opening ~41.5" x 44.5" tall, ~6" diameter round columns, ~7" square legs This will we listed as local pickup only. This is an Antique. Solid Oak, Fire Place with Mantel and Mirror. It has two cylindrical, Oak supports. It is beautiful! Very Heavy and in great condition. It's exact age is unknown to me. It has some oak tiger stripe markings in the wood, some beautiful trim around the mirror, which is in very good condition. It is approximately seven foot tall and four foot wide. I have had a few of these in my homes where I used it as a build in around a gas or electric fire place and in my opinion there isn't anything more beautiful. The joints and connecting points are tight, but may need some improvement at installation such as adjustment, tacking and or gluing. This item is in my storage unit near Mountain City, TN and must be picked up there by the winning buyer. It features birdeyes maple veneer over wood. Dentil trim, the original beveled mirror, columns and a scroll motif on the shelf supports. Beveled wood around the fireplace opening. Good condition for its age. It had been painted and stripped. Looks like water discoloration at the base of columns. See foto, plus other scuffs and remants of paint. The top shelf has pulled away a bit from the back, will try to get a detail foto. There is a crack or two in places, again, I'll get a foto up as soon as I can. A beautiful Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel with bevel edged Mirror. Circa 1880. We are pleased to present this fabulous antique Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel for your consideration. In the Arts& Crafts/ Mission style. The Mantel features a large beveled edge mirror above the shelf, along with a variety of decorative touches including attractive striping of the wood grain on the two vertical columns. The Mantel has overall dimensions of 82 inches high. 60-1/2 inches wide, and 14 inches deep. We estimate the weight at 150 pounds- two people can move it with effort, although its large size makes it somewhat torquey to handle. The mirror measures 17-1/2 inches high by 29-3/8 inches wide. The shelf is 44 inches wide and 7-1/2 inches deep. At the front. The opening for the fireplace is 39 inches high by 41-1/2 inches wide. At the back ... moreedge, the opening is 50 inches wide. Picture 5 shows where the"front" and"back" measurements were taken. Measuring from the wall, to the back edge of the"front" point, the depth is 5-1/4 inches. Faults are few and minor with this antique fixture. The silvering on the mirror shows only minor deterioration. With a few tiny black spots, and some larger areas of crazing where it still reflects. There are a few small burn marks(see pictures 3 and 4) but they only affect the surface finish. There is one noticeable bump to the front edge of the shelf(seen in picture 10) but it is not very large. Other than these issues, the Mantel is in fine shape. We rate the overall condition as very good. This is a gorgeous Arts& Crafts/ Mission style Oak Mantel. It would make a wonderful decorative piece for your remodeling project! Very nice solid oak fireplace mantle with mirror. Early 1900s design. Original oak. 83" in height overall. 60" width includes 3" each side for frame. There are some nail holes in the frame from previous installation. The mantel board is 55 1/2" wide. The opening for the fireplace is 36" height x 35 1/2" wide. The bevelled glass mirror is 35 1/2" wide x 17 3/8" in height. The mantel is in very good condition with normal patina. It is nailed to a 2"x4" frame to make it easier and safer to transport. Antique Mantel with Original Beveled Mirror, Columns, Egg&Dart- LOWER PRICE!
For sale is this lovely antique mantel with beveled mirror which came out of a house in Ashe County. NC that was 100+ years old. The mantel has a column on either side of the opening and the mirror is trimmed with egg and dart moulding. There is also a decorative oval design on either side of the mirror and side. Dimensions are as follow: Opening- width 41 1/2" x length 41 1/2" overall: 60 1/4" width x 72 1/4" height. The mantel is completely refinished in a warm tone and boxed for immediate installation. The box is about 10 3/4" from back to front. The mirror is 39 1/2" width x 15 1/2" height. The mirror has an obvious scratch but no cracks or major damage and I believe it is the original mirror with no re-silvering. Some of the wood on the shelf needed extra repair and upon close inspection, the former ... moredamage can be detected. There is some damage to the base where the columns are mounted that caused some of the surrounding wood to be missing. In the process of refinishing, that has been reshaped to be rounded on the corners. The decorations are in excellent condition and while it is simple, the ovals and egg/dart decorations add just the right touch. Thanks so much for looking!
