Pair American Olympic Log Master Iron Ram's Head Andirons
You are bidding on a pair of American Iron Ram's Head Andirons made by Olympic Log Master. The sides of the andirons are stamped Olympic Log Master Pat. D 208 741. Pair of VERY old 1700's Andirons SNAKE HEAD Andirons
These are Snake Head andirons from the 1700's. These andirons came out of the old Rockhouse at the Rockhouse marina on Claytor Lake in Pulaski VA. My family ran the Rockhouse Marina and my family lived in the old Rockhouse. When my grandfather moved the family out of the Rockhouse he took these old andirons with them. There was a fireplace in the old house that had been closed up for over hundred years and my grandfather opened it back up and found these andirons inside.These beautiful hand forged Snakehead andirons are over 250 years old possibly 300 years old. These are massive and are not to be confused with the thin reproductions I am seeing on Ebay. These are right out of a HUGE Victorian fireplace. The crossbar weighs about 50 lbs. and the andirons about another 50 lbs. The fiddle head tops are wonderful with large round head hammered rivets up and over the tops with ribbons of iron that widen to thin curls. Very dramatic and elegant. You have to see these in person. They are incredible! The andirons are 29" tall x 26" deep and are 14" wide each. For auction is this pair of early French and Indian War– Revolutionary War period hand wrought iron andirons with three-piece construction and faceted gooseneck heads. The column. Arched legs, and log extension are mortised construction. The feet of andirons from this period are often burned short from long use in the coals and portions of these feet are missing. Prolonged use in the hearth fire has allowed one of the log extensions to bend and split exposing the longitudinal fiber and grain of the wrought iron. These fireplace andirons were probably present for the 1st Fourth of July celebration. They measure 14 1/2 to 15 inches high x 7" wide feet x 12 3/4" 14 3/4" deep. Antique Solid Brass Lion Head Andirons I could have cleaned these up but I wanted to get them listed with the Fireplace Tools that are also listed. These lion's head andirons were used together with the tools even though they didn't match up the same but looked great together. The andirons don't have log holders attached because they were used with a different log set up. If you need a set they are easy to find. Each piece measures 20.5" tall and 9.5" across at the feet. They are very heavy. Each one weighs almost 10 lbs. The condition is very good. They do not need anything except polishing if you don't like the brass patina. Antique Iron Brass Andirons ornate lion head fireplace
This pair of Victorian black iron fireplace andirons have ornate bodies with feet and lion heads. The balls at the top are not iron but lighter hollow metal. Possibly brass that have been painted a copperish color in the past. There is a dime size dent on back of one of the balls.please see next to last pic. They are 13" deep, 19" high and 8.25" at widest point.
