We are pleased to offer this antique fireplace surround. This is a very nice piece and in very good condition. This set includes the fireplace surround. Summer cover and atta. ched grate. The fireplace has a very textured surface which is gilded and a coppery gold in color. The insert grate has columnal design which is reminiscent of the Greek Parthenon or Roman Pantheon. The removable summer cover door has a knob on each side. This unit is in very good condition with minimal evidence of age. The gilded finish is still very rich on the back of the summer cover door(see photo 9) There are no areas of rusting and the fireplace is structurally quite nice. There are numbers on the back. We are pleased to offer this beautiful. Original, antique, cast iron fireplace. This is a 2 piece unit which includes the fireplace surround and the summer cover/door. This is an ornate fireplace which dates to the Victorian or Nouveau period. Their is a general French design to the unit. The surround has a French torch and flame design which is found on each side of the inner opening. The torches have tassel feet. A horizontal accent with fleur de lis ends crosses the torches at the upper section of the surround. There is a large double swag on the upper vent area. The swag consists of laurel leaves with a ribbon/bow at the center of each swag. The separate summer cover is quite striking. There is a large recessed area with a raised goddess portrait in the center. The portrait is accented with four, laurel leaf and ribbon swags. The cover ... morehas a upper and lower knob for opening and closing the cover. The entire unit has very old(original? white paint on all background areas. The raised patterns are all in original iron finish. The unit is in very good, unrestored, condition. It has an aged patina. The white paint has areas of rust which have bled through which adds to the aged character of the unit. The unfinished iron has a rusty patina as well. The unit is heavy. There is no makers mark, but the numbers 1492& 17 are stamped on the back of the cover as well as the surround. The surround measures 30.5" tall. The rear is marked, 422" and"20" The back has various mounting hardware as pictured. The surround has a black protruding hood with floral designs and a center fleur de lis. The top gold painted areas have designs and flowers. Each gold side part has a torch with flames and leaves on the side. The paint is a recreation of the original colors. During cleaning and removal of top layers of added paint there was enough of the original paint remaining for me determine the color. All pieces appear to be in great condition except for some surface rust. The internal parts are also included if you want them but the log holder is broken. The back is marked with numbers but no name(470. 65) The outside measurement is 30x30. I have seem similar items that are not as stunning as this piece list on websites for $650+. Rare 1800’s High Relief Figural Cast Iron Fireplace Summer Cover& Surround This rare Cast Iron Fireplace Cover/Insert& Surround are believed to have been manufactured sometime in the 1800’s. I purchased this beautiful fireplace cover from a Virginia estate. This cast iron fireplace cover is unusually heavy weighing approximately 55 pounds. Both pieces have been have painted by the former owner; there are some chips in the paint. The cast iron is approximately 1/8” thick. The surround weighs 23 pounds. The dimensions of the surround are approximately 30 ½” wide and 30 ½” tall. There are two small cracks on the inner opening. Also. The lower left bracket is broken off and the top of surround has been sawed off to fit the metal to an existing fireplace(see pictures) The summer cover/insert weighs 22 pounds. The dimensions of ... morethe cover are approximately 20” wide and 24” tall. There are two knobs. Located at the upper and lower portion of the cover for removing the cover from the surround. This Antique Victorian Cast Iron Fireplace Insert Surround has the matching Summer Cover. The Cast Iron Insert is marked on the back 100 16. This set has been painted at least 3 times. Maybe more. The Summer Cover as a dent or bend, please check the photos. The condition is very good for this 1800's piece. Insert Surround measures 30 1/4" tall x 24 5/8" wide X 2 3/8" deep. The Summer Cover measures 26 1/4" tall and 16 1/16" wide and 1 3/16" deep. On the back of this Fireplace Cover there are the numbers 100 16. On the Insert Surround there at double tabs on each side to hold the Cover and there are anchor holds to secure it when installing, please check the photos. This Antique Cast Iron Fireplace Surround and Summer Cover features a fantastic Native American Scene of two seated Indians- one holding a bow on a stump. At a campsite shootin' the breeze after a successful hunt with a fire in front of a teepee, their beached canoe from the river in the foreground all in a dense woodland. All matching numbers on all four pieces of 474. Good shape with the cover having some copper plate loss and oxidation. With no repairs what-so-ever. The knobs are original with one being slightly dented. The surround has been repaired and welded and has been touched up with paint. The surround is common, where as the cover is not. This measures 30 1/4" wide by 30" tall overall and weighs 47 pounds actual. Pictures were taken inside with this being bone dry- neither wet down nor oiled.
