Thomas Jeckyll Fire Grate/ Basket This antique Aesthetic Movement/ Victorian coal basket is in excellent condition with only some minor wear. Designed by Thomas Jeckyll(English. 1827-1881) Made by Barnard, Bishop& Barnards, Norfolk Iron Works c1875(UK) Thomas Jeckyll is the architect of the famous"Peacock Room" which is installed at the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington DC until December 2015. It features a swiveling bottom grate and decorative lion's paw front pieces. The previous owner had it inside a Thomas Jeckyll"Cast Moth Signature" fireplace surround that was covered by a marble mantle via a recent remodel. He did not want to dismantle the marble work to reclaim the rest of the surround and was only selling the basket. The only flaw is a flat spot worn on one of the back wheels. Which is stuck, and a very ... moreslight heat warp in the back plate(too subtle to show in the photos) This has never been painted but has a fresh coat of stove polish(carbon black) It measures 16 inches high to the top of the back plate. 23 inches at the widest point(front) the back is 16.5 inches wide and the front rail is 9.5 inches high. Antique Andiron Pair Early Petite Cast Iron Fire Dogs Ornate Log Grate Holders
For your consideration is this petite antique andiron pair measuring approx. 10” tall. 6” wide and 11” deep. Some pitting and rust due to age and use. As photographed, but in overall very solid condition. They sit flat although the rear horizontal piece on each is slightly skewed to the side but doesn’t affect it’s integrity. The detailing is still sharp and remarkable for their age as photographed. Please see photos as they are part of the description. In 1882 Petter showed his Nautilus Grate at the Manchester Smoke Abatement Exhibition and after Queen Victoria installed Nautilus fire grates at Balmoral Castle and Osbourne House. Demand for them grew substantially. The fire grate has a scrolled top and shaped sides with the most fantastic detail to the cast iron. The edge is also bound on brass, the cast around the basket has fire patterned detail, it has 2 rails across the front hold the coals in place and striking brass finials at the front, the grate also has brass rails at the front to hold fireside implements. Dimensions are approximately 22 ¼” wide at the front. 19 ½” wide at the back, 16” tall at back, 12” tall at front, depth at legs is 11 1/4” and grate is 14 ½” deep. It weighs a little over 45 pounds. The only imperfection is on the back right corner where several of the uprights are slightly separated from the bottom rail. It is still very strong and can be picked up by the top. The imperfection can hardly be noticed from the front. The indicated shipping price is only for the lower 48 contiguous states of the US. Greetings folks. Up for auction tonight is an antique fire screen mantel frame and grate made by Jackson& Son from New York. Has a the name on the frame with the# 311 and on the bottom of grate it also has the Jackson& Son name with a design patented of May 14 1876 and the# 311- see pics. Has some scratches and has been in storage for the past 30 years. I have two others like this but they have a more square frame instead of arched frame. One has the same grate and the other has some flowers on the grate. I may list these in the near future. Very beautiful and heavy that's why we will make this a pick up or delivery auction. Vintage Fire Grate Log Cradle 'Firehood' 1950's
Here is a nice log cradle that was removed a home that was built in the 1950's. It is one piece of cast iron. The maker's mark is'FireHOOD' other than that there are no markings that I can see. It is as found, with light rust and soot but no damage.
