Antique Gilt Cast Iron Romanesque Gothic Architectural Frame Fireplace Surround
This nicely preserved cast iron architectural frame for a 19th century fireplace surround comes in three pieces for easy installation. Assembled. It measures app.30 ½” tall x 25” wide with an interior reveal of 28” x 20 ½” If you note the photos of the corners from the back, you will see that there are slide joints at the bolts that should allow for up to 1” additional width if it is needed. It cannot be made narrower as pictured. The frame is free of cracks, repairs, breaks and losses and retains a worn, pleasant used original gold painted surface. Antique Victorian Fireplace Surround Cast Iron 1901 Deer Wildlife Scene Complete
Here we have an amazing cast iron fireplace surround complete with frame and door. It came from a home built in 1901 and mantle it was with was dated 1901 on the builders label. As you can see it has an incredible Outdoor Scene with deer and a 12 point buck and other very ornate detail. It measures approximately 24.5 inches wide and 30.25 inches tall(outside dimensions) It is in wonderful condition and will clean up nicely. We have an additional surround currently listed. Antique Cast /Iron Fireplace Front Surround (NEED TLC)
For sale is an old antique cast iron or iron fireplace front surround. This item was removed from an house in Saint Louis City. Most of the houses were build in the early 1900's and late 1800's. This item does have wear from age. Paint peelings, and scratches. It could use painting and does have surface rust(See pictures) There are no cracks that I can see. The measurements are about 31 1/2" wide x 31" tall, the opening is 20 1/4" wide x 25 1/2" tall. This item does have some flaws,but is usable. LATE VICTORIAN ANTIQUE CAST IRON FIREPLACE SURROUND w/HOOD 22 1/2" x 27 3/4"
Late Victorian era cast iron fireplace opening surround. 27 3/4" high, 22 1/2" wide, inside opening is 16" wide. Foundry style number"40" in raised numbers on the back. Design is simple and geometric with a diamond shape center top, very simplified stylized flowers and foliage on either side. The little arms sticking out in the opening would have been for the summer cover to lean against. There is quite a bit of surface rust and quite a few old crusty coats of paint on this surround. The molding details will be much more obvious with restoration. Antique steel or cast iron curved fireplace surround#6 as shown in photos. Not sure of the maker. The only marking I see is a" 6" cast into the metal shown in last photo. Dimensions across high points of surround are approximately 22 1/2" x 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" high. Metal thickness is between 1/8" and 3/16" Very good condition for it's age. Circa 1850-60 arched cast iron fireplace surround embossed"S. S. BENT N.Y. No 149" The surround measures 32" high and 30 1/2" wide. The inside opening is 27" high and 18" wide. It extends out from the surface 1 1/2" but also extend a bit into the fireplace opening for a total depth of 3" The iron is strong and intact but it has heavy surface rust front and back. This was a very typical early and mid 19th century surround for smaller rooms like a bedroom. This mantel is circa 1880's. The summer cover and surround are cast iron with minor rust. It could be sandblasted and painted to your liking. The mantel and keystone are marbleized slate. We are pleased to offer this antique fireplace surround. This is a very nice piece and in very good condition. This set includes the fireplace surround. Summer cover and atta. ched grate. The fireplace has a very textured surface which is gilded and is a coppery gold in color with black accents. The insert grate has columnal design which is reminiscent of the Greek Parthenon or Roman Pantheon. The fireplace has strong French Empire characteristics and feel. The removable summer cover door has a knob on each side. This unit is in very good condition with minimal evidence of age. The gilded finish is still very rich on the back of the summer cover door(see photo 9) There are no areas of rusting and the fireplace is structurally quite nice. There are numbers on the back. They found it while antique hunting or it possibly came from an old home that was torn down in Old Town Alexandria. It probably dates to the 1800's. It has actually been installed in my parents home to cover a fireplace opening and vent a wood stove through it- hence the 6" opening in the cover(which could be covered with something ornate for decorative purposes) Of course you could replace this cover with a more ornate one- I see the right size on ebay regularly. Antique. Circa 1890's, ornate cast iron summer cover surround. The surround measures about 24 1/2" wide, 20 1/8" wide inside x 30" tall, 25" tall inside x 3/4" thickness on side edges. The rear is marked, 422" and"20" The back has various mounting hardware as pictured. The surround has a black protruding hood with floral designs and a center fleur de lis. Antique Cast Iron Fireplace Surround-Frame-Cover-Ornate Victorian w/Grates
The first thing I would like to point out about this surround is that it does not have a can of krylon sprayed on it to cover it's imperfections. I've restored enough antique cars to know. It has been sandblasted and coated with a good laquer based paint. When you have done this, you know it when you see and feel it. I could almost say it's powder coated but I'm not positive. It's sometimes hard to tell the difference between those 2 finishes. If you buy it, you will agree, it's not been sprayed with a can of krylon to flake off in a short period of time, it's been restored the right way and sandblasting old cast iron or steel is the only way to do it properly so it will last. It's not highly decorative, quiet simply ornate designs like a fan in the 2 upper corners. The ears for mounting the piece are still ... moreon it, all 4 of them. The only flaw I see is in the grate, you can see that it had definitely been used, the bottom part of the grates has been hot enough to break off some of those grates. If your going to use it, that can be repaired. This one was probably restored just to be used for looks and it looks great. The outside frame measures 27 1/4" tall and 23" wide. The opening is 24" at the center height and 16" wide. Very standard measurements for a surround, nothing hard to match for a standard fireplace opening. This surround is ready to be mounted. Antique Ornate Fireplace Surround Cast Iron w/ Griffin Circa 1800's Maine Coast
This rare cast iron period fireplace surround was rescued from a coastal Maine estate several years ago. These pieces are increasingly hard to find in any condition. This one is quite ornate and has the original eyelets for holding your fireplace crane for preparing meals. Etc. I have applied stove black to protect the finish. This could be easily washed off to restore a more original rusty appearance. It does have a repair on one ear of a side panel, once mortared into place this piece would not be necessary. Four modern bolts were added to assemble for photos. They can be used for final assembly, as they are only visible at the top or antique ones could be obtained. It has the number 3 on some of the pieces in old script. The detailed Griffin relief and fluted columns really set this one apart. It measures 46" wide by 16" deep ... moreby 35 1/4" tall. It disassembles into four flat pieces. I will transport to the local FedEx or UPS for packaging and shipping, which will be buyer's responsibility to arrange and pay for. Very neat and unusual Antique Victorian Cast Iron Fireplace Insert Surround with a Snowflake Design. Condition is very good for this 1800's piece. Measures 30 1/8" tall x 24 5/8" wide. Inside opening is 25" tall and 14 7/8" wide. On the back of this Fireplace Cover there are the numbers 18 with space between and 40. The light grey residue on the back is cement residue that was used to affix it to the fireplace.
