A very old and beautiful original silver Tuareg"Tcherot" or talisman box or pendant from the African trade in the Sahara Desert. Angela Fisher in her wonderful book"Africa Adorned" has a section that explains the history and meaning of these important items. The Tuareg Silversmiths make some of the most beautiful silver jewelry in all of Africa. Often using fine line engraving and stylized symbolic motifs. This type of amulet box usually contain verses from the Koran or old magical formulae known only to a select few. This particular tcherot is of a beautiful early style and shape with delicate engraved line work and an what looks like a carnelian button on the silver front and with a plain smooth back piece made of brass. Antique North Africa Arabic Sahara Desert Tuareg Tribe Takouba Sword c1860 This is for an antique North Africa Arabic Sahara Dessert Tuareg tribe takouba sword. Circa 1860. The short broad double-edged steel blade, is straight, and tapers to a rounded point, and is likely a European trade blade from the 1700's. The blade is engraved with three fullers, the central being the longest, and with a pair of crescent moons on either side. The sword has a typical Takouba hilt, with steel cruxiform cross-guard, with embossed leather cover, and pommel decorated with chiselled bi-colour brass. The sword has a tooled leather scabbard, with two metal belt loops. This sword measures 760 mm in total length. The blade measures 452 mm in length. The sword weighs 751 grams. Lot Rare Moroccan Islamic Berber Tuareg Jewellery Necklace, Headdress and Cuff
This is a Lot of Rare Tribal Berber/Bedouin Silver Comprising of; Pic 1) Rare Berber Wedding/Occasion Heavy Necklace/Breast Plate comprising of three huge 14cms x 10cms handmade art medallion pieces in Berber silver. Between each piece there is a tassel also finishing in large Berber silver headed bobbles. With slightly larger glass beads on each tassel ending in stuffed fabric and topped with more tiny glass beads. The Berber cabochons on the middle plate, Berber Blue& Red, the other two being yellow and green, all in glass. All the glass is still very bright and striking. Further yellow glass beads make up larger beads that go around the padded fabric necklace. The four tassels on each side pink& green and 7 coins on one side with 1 coin opposite. Date unknown, there are coins on this but not knowing Arabic dates or language we ... morecannot date it. Pic 2) 1 Large Heavy Headdress/Collar 33cm x 11cms(Drop of Coin) Band 3cms deep. Stunning with Berber cabochon type glass in half moon design. In scarlet red and lapis blue, with 14 drop coins of various dates post 1940's, on a corded tie. Pic 3) This is an antique rare piece I believe to be a cuff or very heavy ceremonial bracelet. Possibly for wedding/marriage purposes. Its made of Berber silver, has incredible decorations all around it one side more decorated than the other, see pic 3& 4 for each side.
