Very Rare New Britain Tapa Cloth, Papua New Guinea.
Very Rare New Britain Tapa Cloth. Papua New Guinea. Description: Hello. My name is Greg Hamson. I am the brother of Oceanic Art dealer Michael Hamson. I have been working with Michael for the past few years and have now started my own company—Art of the South Seas. From my experience field collecting in some of the more remote areas of Papua New Guinea I have assembled a large inventory of objects and, more importantly, an extensive knowledge of the art. Recently I have been fortunate to obtain a large private collection of Pacific art here in the United States that has bolstered my inventory. So feel confident that what you are buying here is an older authentic piece of Oceanic art that is 100% unconditionally guaranteed—forever. And if you have older, authentic items of Oceanic art I am aggressively buying material and will pay top prices ... morefor individual items or entire collections. Very nice Hand-painted Tapa cloth from Fiji, bark cloth Masi 1980's
Made from the bark of the Paper Mulberry tree. This most closely resembles the Fijian style of painting that I have found online. It was a gift from some friends who visited Fiji and New Zealand in the 1980's and brought this back as a gift. I really do not care for this style of art and as they are no longer alive I am offering it for auction to someone who does. It measures 18 x 24 inches. These are ceremonial. I do not know anything more about them. I will send it in a padded flat rate envelope. in the US. Thank you for looking.

Vintage Tapa Cloth, Bark Fabric: Browns, Mat, Wall Hanging, American Samoa (?)
This a beautiful Vintage. Tapa Cloth, Bark Fabric in very good, used condition. It measures about 70" x 48" and may have been used as a Wall Hanging or Mat. I researched some on the internet because this is not something I am completely familiar with. The examples that matched this tapa cloth in color and design were associated with American Samoa. The material is actually bark that has been softened through a process of soaking and beating. The paints are vegetable dyes and the designs determine its everyday or ceremonial use. This cloth has been carefully folded and stored as noted by the creases. It seems to be in fine condition with the exception of the beginning of a small tear at the center fold which I have shown in my 4th picture. It has great color and interesting designs and it is impressive looking. NOTE: Items are shown ... moreand described to the best of my ability. But are sold as is. I am not an expert or a collector. Please look at the pictures, read the item description and email me with any questions BEFORE bidding. Thanks for your consideration and bids. Please check out my other auctions. I want you to be happy with your purchase and my service. If there is a problem that would prevent you from giving me all 5 excellent stars for a rating. PLEASE email me first and give me a chance to correct it if possible. Your item will be shipped the way you select and pay for. Using the available USPS or UPS Options(Your choice, based on cost or speed) Please let me know your choice when your payment is made. I do not charge handling within the U.S.A. and I will combine shipping on multiple items.

Vintage FIJI Fijian MASI TAPA CLOTH Bark Pacific Island Polynesian South Seas
Vintage New Zealand Tapa Cloth Barkcloth Pacific Island Polynesian South Seas Beautiful pattern! Measures roughly 24 x 36 inches(2 x 3 feet) I took some pictures of it from different light angles so you can see how it is made from bark cloth. A fellow eBayer told me that this very fine piece is most likely from New Zealand, so I will go with that until proven otherwise. Possibly from a Mulberry tree. Would look great framed or in a Tiki Bar!

Amazing rare vintage tapa 'bark' cloth! Early Hawaii or Pacific Islands, WWII !
This is such a sensational piece of very old tapa cloth(I believe that's what it's called! I acquired it many years ago rolled up in an old trunk. The trunk was full of items that belonged to a veteran from WWII. He was stationed in the Pacific Islands somewhere and there were also many photos of natives. Huts, etc. In the trunk were also many photos taken in the Hawaiian Islands of sailors dated 1942. I have parted with most of the contents, but have hung on to this wonderful old'bark' cloth with the intention of having it framed and displayed in my home. Well, that's just not going to happen, so I'd prefer to find it a new home with folks who can enjoy it, rather than keeping it stored! Please look carefully at the photos, there is quite a bit of wear around the edges. The entire piece measures about 35" by ... more34" hard to be real accurate with the edges not perfectly intact. If I were to keep it, I'd carefully trim the rough edges and have it framed! The center design and workmanship is fabulous! Please take a minute to check out the great sale in my store! Thanks! Check out my! For over ten years I sold on Ebay under the ID'gr8ful' With over 3600 positive feedback score. Be sure to add me to your! Payment is expected within 3 days of purchase. Please check out my photos carefully and ask any questions prior to bidding or buying. I am NOT an expert in any field of collecting. I have the good fortune to have acquired a lifetime of collectibles and antiques which I will be offering for sale. On the back, however, are several stains(perhaps from water? there are also a few numbers written in pencil(18X12" Some of the edges of the stains are visible from the front also, although they blend in a little with the design. His route was the Pacific Island route and he brought back many of these which were all in a box and never used. I bought 20 of them. I have about 10 left. This one is 67 by 53 inches. As you can see it is all hand pounded from the bark and hand decorated. It has a design of Eagles. T and birds and other symbols. I was told this one is Tongan. This has been folded up and needs to be ironed to get the creases out. There are a few very small holes where it was folded and also a small area of discoloration along the edge and another in the center. I tried ot take a picture but it doesn't really show up. As with all hand pounded tapa. Some areas are thinner than others but this ... moreis fairly thick. Terms Of Sale I offer a buy it now or best offer on the majority of items. Don’t be timid about making an offer. I will consider all offers as long as it they are reasonable and fair offers. Descriptions: I really do my best to describe the items accurately. Most of the items I sell are either antiques or vintage. So there will usually be some sign of use, but if you have any questions about the item, please ask before bidding. Refund Policy: As in all auctions. Sales are final unless I have seriously omitted something in my description. Please DO NOT return items without notifying me prior to shipment. If I agree to a return, it must be returned within 7 days of receipt and the return postage may or may not be refunded depending on circumstances. I will always try to be fair, but I will not refund for buyers remorse or for failure to read the description in full. Please wait for an invoice before you pay for your item. Payment is due within four days of purchase or a non paying bidder report will be filed. Shipping: I print all of my shipping labels online. And the shipping prices quoted are my best guess of the complete cost to deliver the item(s) I ship via

Fiji tribal bark cloth painting or Tapa, ethnographic art, home decor
Archaeologists discovered a painted pattern of black. White and red among the ruins of an 11,000 year old house in northern Syria making it the oldest wall painting ever discovered. There was obviously a spiritual purpose in having more current paintings that resembled the first found. The house in Syria was likely lived in by Hunter-Gathers. Their paintings were geometric in design and showed a striking use of color. The Masi of Fiji are known for their exquisite textile work. The men soak the bark in water then beat it against a smooth tree trunk to expand it and make it softer. Once the bark is dry the women apply patterns using dye from plants. This painting measures 50"X36.5" No tares or holes! A truly beautiful example of this ancient art form. Very collectible and suited for the connoisseur.

VINTAGE DOLL HAWAII TAPA BARK CLOTH HANDMADE by LANI LEE 1980'S
VINTAGE BIG EYED TAPA CLOTH DOLL When my kids come home to visit. I always ask them to sort through all the"stuff" I carefully packed away for them. I recently started listing my son's items that he reluctantly agreed to part with to help him pay for an art therapist degree. Well, when my starving artist/writer daughter heard about this, she retorted"WHAT ABOUT ME? So, being the loving and fair Mom, here we go. This doll was given to my daughter by her gramma in the 1980's. The doll is handmade of tapa(bark cloth) and has a tag on the back that is torn. But you can read" cloth doll.in Hawaii.Lei. I had written on a piece of paper that it was bark cloth made by Lani Lee, an artist and designer. The doll has a hardish core and stands on a tapa base; she has a couple beads glued on her patterned dress, a lei around ... moreher neck, a hibiscus in her hair, a red feather in her hat, and a nicely painted face with BIG eyes. She is a little over 5" high. She is in good condition with a little separation of the hat fiber that can be easily fixed. There was a certificate with her that was lost over the years. Cute! I am listing more of my daughter's belongings. So check under"What About Me? in my store. I have lots of vintage items. Especially jewelry, in my store, so come on in and look around! If you are not sure what you are bidding on please watch the videos so you understand more about this item before you bid. The Tapa is made from bark of a tree in Tonga. The art work is done with dyes from island plants. I do not recommend this for children. In Tonga. Tapa cloth is known as ngatu. It is highly valued, and used for special occasions such as wedding and funeral ceremonies. But in the past it was put to more practical use, in bed covers, mosquito netting, sheets, and ... moreroom dividers. A single piece of Tongan ngatu can measure up to 100 metres. These very large ngatu often feature the Tongan crest. And symbols of the Tongan royal family. The British lion on some ngatu symbolises Tonga's long relationship with Britain– Tonga became a British protectorate in 1900. Other ngatu record historical events, including the sighting of Halley's comet in 1910. 336.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fvo%7B%3Dd70f%2B%3E336-13ed8a65855-0x106-
